  1. I was listening to CD the other day and its hard to believe that an album that took 14 odd years to release has such a muddy sound to it, some tracks are mastered perfectly (Sorry) but others such as Prostitute are horribly mastered and it just ruins the impact that each song has. Either too much is happening at once and my ears can't keep up or this album needs to be remastered, what do you guys think?

I see what you're saying, but my main criticism is actually that there’s one-layer-too-much of production. Parts of the album sound really smooth and clean on an otherwise gritty song (Shackler’s).

It’s especially noticeable when you compare the album to the ‘06 leaks, with Better being the main culprit.

Yeah that's exactly it, I don't know if its additional instruments and the effects that they bring or whether its over production. When I listen to it with good quality headphone I tend to notice that the levels are all over the place compared to conventional rock records, sometimes pitmans synths make the guitar tracks hard to follow and vice versa, I guess that's what 14 years can do to an album though. A more raw version of the album would have been a much more enjoyable listen.

Yeah, I really don’t hate any of the sound on the album, but if I listen to early leaks, especially of IRS, I just think “Goddamnit, why can’t it all sound like this?”

Songs like Prostitute, Shackler's and even TWAT would’ve really benefited from a slightly more raw touch.

  3. Honestly I don't mind the covers nearly as much as I mind the solos. I hated the ones from '92 as well. People go to hear Axl sing. I'd much prefer a 90 minute show of hits, a couple CD songs, and a cover or two than three hours of classic song, classic song, solo, cd song, cover, solo with a cover , classic song, solo, jam, etc etc

I actually really agree. I complained about the covers in another thread today, but the solos are what really drags the shows down. They're like an inverted bell curve where the middle drags because of the solos/ballads/covers/etc. The beginning and the end of the shows are always way intense though.

  4. It was put out as a single and charted I think. I think that's how the label decided on sales or chart position. Even Sympathy charted. Not sure about Easy or Nightrain. Whereas Brownstone was never a single so wouldn't.

I think Ain't it Fun was top 10 in the UK.

Dead Horse, Garden of Eden, The Garden had some kind of single releases.

I was listening to those 3 songs last night Symptahy, Since, Aint it Fun - sound pretty good!

Exactly, I think Greatest Hits albums are supposed to be composed of singles that were released and charted (easy way for labels to make money off of songs the public has already liked).

What they should really do is like "The Essential Guns N' Roses" or something like that. Then you don't have to worry about if something was a single, if it charted, how much radio play it got, and you can fill it with songs that get played all the time and fans love.

  5. I am all for dropping the covers and replacing them with more original material, though it'd be a huge shame to lose Axl's ridic screams in LALD.

And I'm really surprised at the hate given to If The World. Except for the way-too-corny second verse, I really dig it, esp. Bucket's flamenco playing.

  6. DJ should be fire.

Bumble shouldn't because of this, but because of Slash/Bucket coming back to the band.

100% true. I can only pray those rumors are true of Axl quietly pushing for Bucket to come back (though if that happened I'd actually love to see Bucket and Ron together).

  7. Release ChiD leftovers

But where is the market for that?

"Hey, remember that album that made pretty much no impact 5 years ago? Great news. Here are the tracks that didn't make the cut."

That's a tough sales pitch to convince a label to put money into it.

Especially when they've probably already sank a ton of money into New GNR.

  8. Axl is blocking this, because he's not satisfied with it. Just like he blocked Chinese for so many years

Didn't the record company initially reject CD in 2000'ish though?

    According to forum legend.

Didn't Stinson said something about it? Not only some forum legend.

By the way John, somehow you managed to top AndreCC nude portrait. Yours it's way more disturbing, thumbs up.

I could be wrong, but I think Bob Ezrin is actually the one who said it.

Anyone still have paradise city from this show?

I don't think it's out there anymore unless someone ripped it. If I remember right, initial reaction was so bad that it was pulled in a few days.

I haven't heard it, but it speaks to the exact reason why I really don't want this released. Axl's got to be in better shape to mass release a live performance to the public.

  9. As real as this kind of sounds, I really can't picture Axl ever being comfortable with being a "jukebox, nostalgia act."

(but the Vegas residency makes me scared of this).

    Dude.........seriously?

When is the last time they played a new song on tour?

Axl has put out one album since the Slash/Duff left.

One album in 17 years and you don't think he's turned GnR into a "nostalgia act"????????

It's possible, but I find it hard to believe he's stupid enough to try and launch a nostalgia act with all new members, while also playing "This I Love," "Better" and "Catcher." Especially since half of the rock audience still deems this as "Axl's Hired Guns."

It seems like he's trying to keep whatever this thing is afloat while he sifts through legal bullshit and, what seems like, lots of people with financial motives.

  10. I think he had a moment at too where he realized he fucked up and should've practiced. You can see him in a daze near the end of patience when he sees the 1992 banner. He's probably thinking wth am I fucking doing to myself? I had a great operunity in 2002 and blew it since then.

When does he see a banner from '92? I just watched the cut of Patience from Rio 2011 and couldn't find a banner anywhere.

Does he maybe mean "November Rain"? I also missed this the first time around, but during that song you can see something in the audience catches Axl's eye and briefly distracts him.
