  1. Rusty - why do you think these guys hate Slash so much? It's almost obsessive. They feel like they must bash and hate on Slash in every topic.

Why do you think that is? Guy hasn't been in the band for 16 years and he helped create the classic songs that the current line-up covers every concert..........but these guys absolutely hate him with a passion.

You could say the exact same thing about the ones who bash Axl.

  2. It's a shame that Axl doesn't have the balls to go on Larry King and partake in a real interview.

unfortunately its a lose/lose situation for Axl. People even slate him for his halloween story, i mean its just a light hearted story and every guest shares them. Could you imagine the reaction to more controversial stuff, especially when it will be the answers most people don't want to here?

100%. He gets grilled for anything and everything. I don't blame him from shying away from the sensationalist-hungry press. It'd probably just get blown out of proportion and it's probably something he'd like to be done with.

  3. I'd buy it in a second.

BUT I hope they don't release it. It'd be career suicide for Axl, who already gets shit on by the press for disrespecting the old group, "being the only original member," being a "control freak" and being unfair to Slash and the original lineup. The metal and rock community would go nuts on him for "rerecording a masterpiece."

I just hope he loses weight and puts new jams out. But like I said, I'd buy it in a second.

  4. They go for a lot of reasons:

Some like Chinese Democracy and the new lineup
Some like the original lineup and are dying for Axl & Slash to reunite, but can't resist the call of seeing Axl perform these songs
Some are trying to relive their youth
Some have no clue Slash isn't there

And for some it's a combination of all of the above.

On the whole, though, I think they mostly go to see Axl.

All I know is, I would go to more if that setlist changed.

  5. BangoSkank...........instead of giving the drunk guy $40 and a happy ending, did you think about instead just upping your offer to $75 or $80 or was he adamant about the happy ending? I love GnR, but I'm not sure I'd go that far to see them.

He was pretty adamant. It was right on the streets of Brooklyn too. Times are tough and sometimes ya gotta suck it up... (pun intended)

  6. That one time I asked Fernando if it was cool if I waited to try and shake Axl's hand, he said "yes," then pointed me to where the limo would be pulling up. A few minutes later, limo pulls up in the original spot I was standing, and I missed him.

Then I asked Fernando if the rumors were true about their being extra tickets (The Brooklyn Bowl) and he said there probably were, that he'd check and that he'd be right back.

    Dude never showed.

PS - I bought one off of a drunk man who was thrown out for $40, so there was a happy ending.

  7. CD was that bad that this is the best we could come up with?

You have a better idea? Because I know I don't.

Just saying. Seems very sad to me that this is all we have going on. I know they don't, but I wonder if anyone from current GNR looks at this and says "God, what the fuck did we do to this band". I sure know thats what I think whenever GNR comes up these days. One of the biggest trainwrecks in rock history, and all because of one guy.

And contrary to popular belief, that guy isn't Slash.

Popular belief does not blame Slash.

And I usually end up with:

    Shackler's

    Better

Better demo immediately following (to hear it more raw)

    If The World

    Chinese

    TWAT (album version)

    Prostitute

And then all of the others at some point (except This I Love) and in no particular order. I actually always forget how much I dig I.R.S.

  8. The solution is pretty simple to me (and they seem to have adopted this idea recently), set the start time for 11pm (or maybe 10:30) and give him an hour or so's leeway. This way he's not performing too early in the day (remember, he's pretty nocturnal and slept all day, so our 9pm is more like his 4pm). As he said once, bands used to come on around midnight all the time in the 70's. Rock is a lot more corporate now, and while it has its pros and cons I don't think it's a good thing in the end.

Agreed. Either Axl should come on at 9 or the show should be listed as starting at 11. And people that can't make it because work, etc. just shouldn't come. It's so well known that he comes on late that I'm shocked people still complain about it.

  9. Full on public apology. See I think that Axl thinks the press and the fans have always sided with Slash and this way they would see that Slash was the one who was wrong.

The problem is it will never happen. If there is some things that Slash did wrong, the way to fix it would be in private using good counseling. Then they would both see why the other one is upset and have a better understanding on what they may have done wrong and then you would get some kind of public apology most likely from both sides.

Does it really matter any more? After so long why is it so important that people want them to be friends again? I guess financial reasons for songwriting & recording songs they might need permission from the other, I don't know. I still don't know the reason for their split even after reading 3 books, all I know is Slash lied but what about? If he publicly did it then why didn't Axl defend himself? They don't seem to be interested in sorting it out, it's the fans of the original band that want it more.

I tend to think Axl doesn't ever say anything in public because the press really loves to hound him. In the way the media simplifies everything, they've made Axl this almost cartoonish bad guy. It's always his fault everyone quit, he was so dictatorial with the old band that everyone left, he was slaving away in a recording studio for decades, making his most perfect masterpiece, etc.

He's definitely guilty of things that helped cause the disintegration of the original lineup, but given how the press twists things, edits them down and, really, has already decided Slash is right, he probably doesn't trust how things will go if he does speak out.

Axl is probably a little paranoid in thinking everyone is against him, but the sad thing is, he's not entirely wrong.

  10. It would have to be one of his friends doing it. Roasts where it's just a smattering if vulgar comedians ripping on someone they don't know are bound to get too invasive. Any roast that friends making fun of each other is always enjoyable to see. That's why the old Friar's Club ones are way better to watch than the ones they've been doing on Comedy Central (the exception being James Franco's).

  11. I'm always torn on this issue. Axl might have bipolar disorder (or something like it), but I really fail to see why there aren't things arranged to get him there by at least 9.

On the other hand, he's been going on at 11-11:30 since the 80s. Why do people still get surprised and/or pissed that he's late? He's actually been pretty consistent. Never ready at 9, always ready at 11.

In my mind, the promoter, etc. should probably plan around this expectation. It worked with the Brooklyn Bowl (sort of). They shouldn't even let people into the shows before 8:30.

  12. It's a pain in the ass, but at the same time, I really don't understand why the promoter, venue, etc. would still continue to list their start time as 8:30/9:00 when it's very well-known that they come on at 11. It causes people to get there at like 7:00 (earlier if you want to be up front), the opening bands to come out way too soon and the crew members to be exhausted. They probably know that listing the actual start time on Ticketmaster might prevent people from buying them.

I remember coming out of the Izod show in 2011 (?) and I asked the traffic worker what time he was expecting to get home and he said: "As soon as you guys all get out of here... like 4 am." He was late 30s/early40s, probably had kids, the whole shebang.

  13. What makes anyone think this stuff? Remember the long gap post-2002, pre-2006? Seemed to be the end, but he came back with the new lineup to very solid performances and released the album two years later.

I admit I want more activity, but it's hard to diagnose what his outlook on life is if no one has actually seen or spoken to him.

  14. I know some people that went to see GNR last year and told me Slash was great.

    LOL.

I remember being in the first few rows of the Izod center and having to tell people (who got that close, meaning they lined up at least 6 hours before Axl got on stage) that Slash wasn't there. They weren't bummed, but baffled.

  15. I tend to think villianize Axl way too much, but I do think he, and the rest of the band, could have turned this thing around.

The band was so fucked up back then though, both with substances and internal strife. It's a shame, without all of that this could have been a tour still worth talking about (for non-controversial reasons).
