it lacks cohesion where a global concept could have made accept the diversity of the songs.
out of 14 tracks almost half are relatively average, pleasant to listen to but without any particular substance in the long term.

I mean, who regularly listens to If the World, Catcher In the Rye, I.R.S. or even Street of Dreams & Madagascar?

there are very strong things like There Was a Time, Prostitute, This I Love, Better, Shackler's Revenge or even something more controversial like Scraped and you would have something very strong with The General, Perhaps, Hard Skool & Monsters

Not listening to songs regularly does not make them bad songs. Street of dreams, Madagascar, If the world are (for me) three favourites from that record. Quite partial to a bit of IRS too.

I take your point that not everything on Chinese was created equally.

I don't agree that adding any of the four latest singles would have improved Chinese though. Perhaps is the best of the litter, but it would have been one more slow rock/ballad songs on an album that already had quite a few.

Monsters only comes alive briefly but the rest of the songs vocal is so phoned in! that melody is... Well forgettable is a kind word.

The general... Just not a great track.

HardSkool. I suppose that could go on instead of Rhiad or scraped, but if it was going on in the way it was circa village leaks I'd rather have Rhiad/Scraped.

I agree. I'm sure Axl works on recording new vocals, and overdubs, backing vocals, touch ups, etc. when he's laying down vocals in the studio.

From the Village leaks, we know Axl later recorded vocals for Shackler's, Sorry, Better, and Scraped (which we didn't get any instrumental for then) and that suggests he has probably recorded vocals for additional songs, and we know that to be true with Monsters and The General. I'm certain there are others. As for how many, no one knows for sure but I would bet he has 6-12 additional songs with vocals that were not on the 2008 album or the NITL singles.

I agree with this, there is bound to be more.

However, I'm quite happy if they remain where they are this stage. If the 4 singles and Monsters / the other leaks are the best from the batch then I think stopping now is good. Not stopping releasing music, just stopping releasing THAT music.

I would as a lifelong fan love for Axl to go out on a high note, a real fucking triumphant good record. I mean for me, if Chinese was the last thing he put out I'd say that's a pretty solid way to finish it... But these last few songs? I wouldn't want that to be my last word. Obviously Axl feels differently about this material, but I just don't see the value in it. Unfocused, repetitive parts and lyrics, fairly forgettable melodies both vocally and instrumentally... And worst of all the songs sound even more pieced together than even Chinese did.

Axl is the most hated person in music business, so it wont do him any harm.

People do not know shit about him already hates him, but he also has the most loyal base too. GNR is the most successful touring band for the last few years with nearly no pr and marketing and no management.

I think he's dropped down the list of most hated since 2016, but he's probably top 10 on worst vocalists lists though.

I think in general people like him more, similar to how people like Lars more... But there's still a strong contingent that bear a grudge against both, but they largely have no clue what either have been doing the past 20yrs.

GNR had a good run while it lasted.

While it lasted😄 that saying doesn't apply when the career is 35+ yrs long. If it was 3/4 really good years and then they ground to a halt then this would make sense.

Ultimately these filings are coming at famous people all the time and more often than not the famous person survives and continues in their career, I'm not saying that's good or bad. Unless there is some really damning evidence beyond "he abused his ex wife and girlfriend" then there really isn't anything tangible to charge him with. What they are probably hoping is that Axl doesn't want the publicity of a trial and will make settlements to make it go away. I personally think he's better off fighting these in court because it doesn't seem like there's any evidence beyond their word vs his.

I guess my suspicion is that these lawsuits never surfaced when gnr weren't doing massive touring numbers. I believe in victims not being able to deal with things and may E not report an incident when it happened... But I also believe in the conniving side of people wishing to cash in when there's a big pile of money.

Tyler's young (semi kidnapped) girlfriend, Bowie's & Pages semi kidnapped girlfriend, Kiedis's sexual misdeeds all talked about and photographed in some way shape or form these can be followed up. A sexual encounter between two adults in a hotel room where both parties entered of their free will, and both consented to having kinky sex which then apparently turned too violent... I mean this is really difficult stuff to get a conviction on. End of the day, if he's guilty of this then they'll have evidence or convincing testimony to back it up, and if he's guilty then he deserves what he gets... Whether he's a changed man now or not.

Duff filling in might increase chances of Axl joining Brian for a song or two at a show. However, I'd rather hear Cliff playing bass in AC/DC.

We would all prefer to see Cliff, but if the rumours are correct AC/DC are planning a bit more than a few shows so Cliff likely did bow out.

Duff as the bassist? It's not an obvious choice, but like a few hate said Axl was a Leftfield choice too. I would love to see band picture. Duff towering over the rest of the band🤣

  6. I see no reason why Axl and Slash wouldn't collaborate... The only reason for not doing it is saving that special moment for an actual new gnr song or album... I don't think they look at things that way though.

I don't know how good a chance there is if it happening, but Axl isn't averse to guesting and Slash did want him on that first solo record... AND if Axl sung something then Slash could have that in the gnr set. AND if Axl is on Slash's record it's instantly going to get more attention. But who knows, they don't efer do what we might expect!

All this talk about "at least they put in an effort"

Guns N' Roses didn't make an effort. It's fucking computer generated.

The only effort put in was the performance the "live" footage come from

Yes, but the effort is guns n roses hiring someone to make a video for the song.

Of course going the extra mile and actually appearing in the video beyond live footage would have been great... But this is gnr effort we're talking about, it's minimal effort at best.

I feel like I need to apologise to CD fans who have been going on about Slash ruining solos that they love......

He just ruined a solo that i love

Yeah to me that studio solo is impeccable. Everything I love about Slash's playing in one sitting.... This version, not so much. BUT it's still great hearing it live. Obviously Slash had so e requests that he wasn't.anaging to get into the gnr set

There was a Malcom shaped hole in the sound last time I saw them. People rattle on about Angus and he deserves the plaudits but Malcom drove that band with his right hand and it doesn’t sound the same without him and drum wise Chris Slade is no Phil Rudd. That Malcom/Phil engine just isn’t replaceable. Black Ice was the last great tour. I saw 3 shows on that tour and they were the best ACDC gigs I’ve seen.

Stevie definitely doesn't have Malcoms feel, but I think the biggest issue has been Chris Slade... who is obviously a capable drummer, but didn't suit playing Phils songs. The latest guy is pretty good though I must say, I'd be on for seeing them with him if Phil still can't tour.

People are complaining, but honestly I wasn’t expecting to hear a peep out of GNR until 2025, so this video is a pretty cool bonus for me. Looking forward to it.

Yeah, there's nothing to complain about really... don't see why it needs to be hyped considering it's a standard video, but it's better than nothing! Hopefully they continue to release whatever is on the backburner while Slash and Duff are promoting their copious amounts solo albums.

We already have this with Monster's outro solo, with Richard taking the lead after Slash.

I know there's a trick to mix individual drum parts in Garage Band to make them sound a lot better, but that's very taxing and unintuitive. <_<

Yeah I haven't gotten my head around how to do that yet either. But I am very lazy, I like plug and play!

I thought that was Richard too on Monsters alongside Slash. His biggest "problem" is that he doesn't really have an identifiable sound that screams a Richard riff/solo

  12. 17 hours ago, Voodoochild said:

Oh I see. It's how I am right now: I think the drums are good enough, but then I try the SSD drum plugin and everything before sounds like shit.

Ha! We're all there. Except those 10 elite producer/engineers that get great sounds without sound replacement.

Superior drummer is the business though! The new garageband drum sounds are pretty decent though.

Now back to taking Nuno down a peg or two😄

Fiona Apple last record was made in Garage Band and it was awesome.

Not saying garageband isn't good software, it has definitely got way more advanced since the original version. I use it sometimes, it just reminded of some of the songs I made when I was younger using the drum sounds in GarageBand and listening back now it definitely doesn't sound awesome, but I also didn't know what I was doing back then

Yeah the new album is quite forgettable and the production isn't great either.

Considering how they threw a record out in favour of this material, you really have to wonder. Biggest talking point is a guitar solo! That's all the positive press that they are talking about.

They need to go into the studio with someone who will say when it's really average idea, because their self producing isn't working or whoever is producing isn't doing their job.

Same can be said for many older bands, but I thought the Extreme record wasn't exciting at all. Sounded like a record made in garageband

I'm almost 40, play guitar and hadn't heard of this guy until this whole online altercation...

Well we can't of heard of every successful musician but that doesn't diminish what he brings to the table.

You now know of him and know that he has a few platinum records, one HUMONGOUS hit song that's referenced a lot or at least was over the last 20+ yrs and he turns heads in guitar circles because he's a very talented bastard.

He's also top level douche, but wouldn't we all be a bit douchey if we were told how great we are everytime we left the house?

more damage control by the silly ego maniac. The fact that it's still going and he keeps bringing it up only makes me feel that his self importance is stronger than ever.

my guess is that he doesn't give a shit about drinking a beer with Fortus. He just wants everyone to think he has class, which he doesn't imo. I really dislike his personality from what I can tell watching interviews with him and in social media he kinda became a joke after his online interactions with Fortus.

Complete douche. Talented guitar player and he has written some great songs in the past (there's nothing great about the new record).

  17. Who the hell knows? More than likely what will happen is this extended break and a few shows will start getting announced and before we know it they'll be back on the road.

The more hopeful / naive side is that Slash writes a lot on the road, he can send ideas to Axl and when the SMKC tour concludes he can jump into making a record. Anything is possible however unlikely.

Back to the realist: I just don't see what they can do differently on a tour if they aren't promoting a new album. They've dug into the deep cuts on AFD and UYI, there really isn't anything further they can do beyond the occasional guest spot of Adler and Izzy which wouldn't be promoted ahead of time. Basically if they aren't making a brand new record this year before eventually restarting the touring then it is never happening.

He may well be telling the truth in this case, but I'm in the Pearl Jam world and Dave has always been a bit of an emotional charity case when it comes to his version of events and retelling stories. I think its a good tell that when PJ was combusting internally and NONE of the members wanted to even be around each other, even on stage, he somehow got the shortest end of the stick and was kicked. All of the drummers have come back and collaborated with PJ, even recently due to Matt Cameron getting covid, but guess who hasn't and won't? Dave A. Drummers at the RNRHOF?? All the ones on the albums, even Dave Krusen. Dave A on the other hand? Not even asked to appear.

What has Dave A done since Pearl Jam besides this story that would define his career on his resume, other than "I was Pearl Jam's drummer when they we're the biggest band in the world..." and arguably the best drummer thats been in the band, period.

Eddie Vedder has grown immensely since 1994, as has Axl Rose. Axl squashed the beef with Slash, Duff, and Adler, while Izzy is still pending. Same situation with Eddie and Dave A.

But if a fully mature Eddie Vedder ain't calling Dave A back in the 2020's, I can only imagine what happened between Axl and Dave in the 90's.

Nothing about this is new, but it still took Axl 10 years post this moment to actually put the album out. Meaning, Axl got his way multiple times after this moment.

If Axl wanted Dave A in the band, Dave A would have been in the band regardless of what Goldstein thought.

Now did spinless Doug Goldstein tell one Dave A (who had been out of the biggest band in the world for 3 years and done NOTHING afterward at this point)  "we don't need ya cuz we're gunna reunite the original band" as an excuse to get him to stop calling Axl?

Thats up for debate in my head....

BTW Dave A only wrote 2 pearl jam songs and this is one of them:

The way you frame it is funny. Like Dave was calling Axl every night hounding him. It's more likely Axl was calling Dave talking about the old band, what he should do musically now and and Dave was trying to get off the phone because his ear was getting burnt off😄

As far as Dave being out of the biggest band for 3yrs and not having done anything... well, that didn't hurt his ability to land himself in the drum seat with GNR (however short lived). And what constitutes as nothing to you or I might actually be a lot more, but maybe it just wasn't major label stuff OR he just took a career break which is fair enough he had the money!

If Axl wanted Dave, Dave would have been in GNR... well, Axl did want Dave.... that's why he hired him, Dave was the one who left, unless you have another story saying otherwise from someone who was actually there. Speculation is fine, but when the guy who it happened to is telling the story and you're say "nah, I know what really happened" it's a bit of a head-scratcher. Does Dave have a history of making up BS claims? the few interviews he's given over the years seem very matter of fact to me.

As far as as Dave not getting inducted in the RNRHOF, that was a Eddie thing. You can say he's grown a lot over the years... which might be true, but if you read other members of PJ talk about Eddie and the PJ song writing process there is 100% some dissatisfaction with how Eddie controlled the songwriting. Maybe things have got more democratic between them since though
