  1. It depends. Multishow, iirc, broadcasted the last AC/DC and the Metallica Death Magnetic tour shows in São Paulo. But by talking about the obscurity, I don't mean just a live broadcast, but also shows like this one in Argentina, where videos don't come up until the next day, mostly.

  2. Well, if he leaves Paraguay as soon after the show there as possible, and limits running around... He'll still probably get out of breath, but less so.

Not gonna be one for the boot-collectors, hopefully it's decent enough for the fans attending. What major acts have played Bolivia recently?

Not really Amir. The body takes a lot of time to acclimatize. Doctors recommend a choice between 2 courses of action: either get there a week to 10 days earlier and adapt fully, or get in there just before the soccer match (show, in this case) do your shit and get the fuck out. A couple of the days is the worse of both worlds: you experience peak side effects and haven't acclimatized yet.

  3. KOHD has been posted I think. YCBM I'd rather not see since 2011 tbh.

but the drum intro of YCBM and then the bass and then the guitar is just...... fucking awesome you know? and axl twisting around with his mic stand and all that stuff it's a power song and i love it

I love the song. Power song indeed, as such, it is well suited by power vocals. It's a song that sounds awful in a clean voice, it looks like a humour sketch sung that way.

  4. The band is far from what it used to be in the old days, but also very, very far from being the trainwreck that some people make it to be. It is a quality rock'n'roll show.

I get very frustrated with Axl's vocals when compared to what they used to be, but still find the man an amazing singer (of course, disasters like Bridge School were, well, disasters). DJ sucks though, and I don't mean just his guitar playing, but also his looks and his demeanor in stage. Also, as a guitar player myself, I find it disgusting that he puts out cigarette butts on his guitar. It makes me want to shove a pineapple stuffed with glass shards up his bum.

  5. I personally attended this show and though I actually enjoyed it, I don't think Axl sounded that great (and I'm not saying he sounded awful). This high pitched voice doesn't make it for me. I had a much more fun time in 2011 and 2010. But that's because I want Axl to sound more "raspy". He sounded good, but this was the first time I didn't get goosebumps.

Exactly how I felt. I mean, November Rain is one of my favourite songs of all time, but last few shows I've attended it doesn't inspire any emotion in me. 2010 TIL sent shivers down my spine, since then it's been OK. Was great seeing Axl running around and he wasn't out of breath like 2013 and some of 2012, but there weren't any moments vocally that BLEW. MY. MIND. like in 2010.

You are a reasonable man, Amir. I'd say you don't even have to go as far as back as 2010. I lake watching some videos of TIL on some of the weaker performances of 2011, for example. In most of those, he sounds not so good during the show, but brings that fantastic voice during the first chorus of TIL, and you can see the crowd cheering him right after, as in "wow, he still got it". Those moments are increasingly rare.

    Edit: I mean this.

  6. That solo is shitty. It's really, very shitty. It does not suit the music at all. It sounds like I do when I'm bored, take the guitar, abuse the drive and make shit, bored noise and pointless shit solos that do not fit anything and bother other people.

More shit soloing here (less shit, but hard turds are only slightly less unpleasant than diarrhea):

Edit: Oh wait, there's more (4:27):

  7. Axl's face get bloated in a short time.

He must be on medication or sick. His face was "normal" in Rio, but completly bloated in this Buenos Aires photos.

I was thinking that. He may be ill and on medication. Hope he is ok though.

Watching Ashba on these clips he looks like a petulant child trying to get attention.

He is a rock singer on tour. He is probably going strong on the booze. Alcohol makes you bloated.

Now that all videos are available, it wasn't a bad show from Axl. Some of the songs are quite good actually.

  8. Poor Axl painted himself into a corner 'vocally' when he was younger and now he can't deliver. But as long as people are buying those tickets up, why not keep it going!

It's not all his fault though. Age gets everyone. He's definitely not the only singer that's done that to himself.

Another one that is currently doing that to himself is Matt Shadows (avenged sevenfold). The power that guy sings with now will make their fans cringe in 10 years when they hear what he does.

It doesn't help that GNR songs are a nightmare to an average singer. Even Bruce Dickinson would probably struggle to sing something like YCBM with drive on his voice every other day during a tour at this age.

But vocal coaches and proper drive technique go a long way in mitigating vocal damage. James Hetfield had a shitty spell a few years later, but it's much better nowadays. Steven Tyler changed his style to suit his aging (just listen to the original studio recording of Dream On). I'd think Axl probably works on that though, it would make no sense for a singer of his stature not to.

  9. Seems pretty full on Mickey to me.

Mind you, I think those are good, highly technical vocals. He reaches amazing notes with a lot a power. I would risk saying that if this was how Axl Rose sounded from the beggining I'd still have become a GNR fan.

But sadly it was not how he sounded. He had a very peculiar voice, and it wasn't an accident that he was considered by many the greatest frontman in all rock'n'roll.

I can't get past his new way of singing, even though this show is getting fantastic reviews, and those who attended had a blast, I'm driven to judge Axl by the standards set by himself.

The fact that he seemed finished and bounced back amazingly in 2006, then again in 2010, makes it even harder to endure this. As much as I post here, follow the band and listen to the shows, I'l always a bit depressed when I come to the realization that this is it. If he can't sing like he used to, it is sad. If he can, but chooses not to, it's even sadder.

This really sums up the way I feel.

I do think he chooses to sing this way now, but more to preserve what's left than anything else. You could hear what was happening by the end of 2010; it wasn't sustainable.

    A real shame indeed.

Awesome!! Duff makes this one very cool

    This was pretty fucking excellent.

    That's pretty spot on.

I think he destroyed his voice in the late 90's, around 2007 and then completely obliterated it in 2010. It is recoverable, he recovered on the three times, but it probably takes months, even years, and it might involve quite a bit of pain. Also, in his case, since he is not releasing shit and wants to keep performing, it can result in disasters such as Rio 2011, and 2001 to a lesser extend. Also, given his age and health, it must become harder and longer to recover each time he does it.

By keeping his vocals clean, at least he can perform not horribly consistently. The fantastic reviews he's been getting on this past shows also probably indicate to him that his is the right path. This, and I also remember the media saying after every 2010 show "Axl Rose doesn't have the voice he used to but it was a good gig", completely oblivious to the fact that we was singing fantastically. As this very gig in Argentina shows us, he can easily get the exact same reaction from both fans and media without putting that much of a strain on himself.
