I don't disagree with the sentiment about the vocals, but the song just isn't my groove. I love Black Leather, Ain't it fun, Since I Don't Have You, I Don't Care About You, Sympathy, alll great tunes. But a couple others on TSI are just meh for me

He brought a couple of things:
1) he was one of the only guitar players within the music industry who was still willing to take a chance on putting up with Axl's shit
2) he brought back end money by way of endorsements (i.e a Monster energy drink stupidly placed on the piano every night) so GN'R didn't loose so much money of arenas that were 1/3 full.
Surely Axl Rose.. especially after the successful 2006 tour, and the drop of CD could still draw a major player right? Or do you think he had honestly gone by the wayside at that point?

I Feel Good and Wichita Lineman were both highlights of the show when I saw them in 2017. Top 5 songs of the night were probably Nightrain, Catcher, Wichita Lineman, I Feel Good, and My Michelle.
I never got the hate for Wichita Lineman... the band has almost always sounded good on stripped down acoustic songs, and it's in Axl's natural range and he still sounds really good on it. It made me wish they'd bring back the acoustic sets in the middle of the shows.
I had the exact same feeling about Wichita Lineman. I loved how polished the band sounded. Frank sounded great, loved hearing Fortus with his short solo, and Slash killed the ending/breakdown. I'd love to hear more songs in Axls natural range like that

SFTD. As a band not about axls singing.
I feel good.
Black hole sun
Best
Black Leather (wish they would add this to the setlist)
Intro to "only women bleed"
I absolutely LOOOOVE their cover of Black Leather. Really heavy, good mix of metal and punk. Might be my favorite off of TSI

Only this band.. well at least Frans' videos exist somewhere. Let's just hope for a productive tour and new music

How about the fact that they ripped that off from @FRANSAD?
You're kidding right? Man I hope that isn't true.. the irony is lost to someone if it is

Black Hole Sun

Look at your game, girl
Best:
Nice Boys
Black Leather
Dead Flowers
I think a more interesting list would be best covers of a GNR song, which are few and far between.. actually can't think of any good ones

She can sing November Rain pretty well, seems like she just likes the "Pop" tunes of the '80s and '90s though; I don't figure her to listen to any deep cuts

Axl truly seems like the last rock star, an anachronism from an older generation at this point. Something, maybe his sexual charisma, singing, attitude, authentic-albeit deeply flawed nature, really drew people in. We'll never have another one like him; I guess thats how the great rock stars are, unique.

San Diego and Toronto 2016 were both professionally recorded.
Edit: does London 2012 count? They played it at a couple movie theaters but it wasn't really properly released. Same with Rose Bar 2010 and Hiro Ballroom 2012 - the full shows were probably recorded but only a few songs were posted online.
London 2012 HAS been technically released, I watched it on VH1: Classic. I'm not sure, maybe by the label tying the bands arm, why or how.

I'm so excited 😁😁😁 this will be the second time I've seen them in Atlanta, and third time overall. Moved from the upper deck at the Atlanta done in 2016, to the floor by the mixing desk at the Spectrum Arena in Charlotte, now ive got Pit seats for this show. I guess, since 2016 was the first time I saw them, I haven't worn myself out yet 😂 I'll see ya there gunners

Anyone who suggests that someone else should keep a political opinion to themselves is silly, unless this person is a Nazi or member of the KKK (personally that's just a non-starter). Our democracy RELIES and was built by the founders off of the sovereignty and involvement of the people.. if you disagree with someone politically or for any reason, rationalize why, and voice your opinion in a productive way. Telling celebrities to shut up on a small, band-forum just seems tedious and unneeded

You Could Be Mine, You're Crazy, Paradise City and Catcher all the big highlights.
From sounding like this in an acoustic set to Bridge School in two years.
Does that say more about Axl getting sick in 2011, or more about the lack of taking care of his voice? Sad that we can't have prime Axl anymore :/ stinks his singing style isn't more natural to his register (not sure i'm using that correctly)

I've thought about that too. I cannot believe that Axl isn't bored to tears playing the same songs in nearly the same order for decades.
You would think they would resort to a more random setlist after a while? God only knows I'd do a more UYI style setlist, whatever the band was feeling at the time. Not running through the motions.. that's the least Axl/rock star thing I can think of

Overall, yeah, but he was around from 99 on. The addition of Frank & Ron along with Robin is what makes that line up my favorite.
I like Frank as well, at least Frank before the NITL tour. Something about his kit sound has just been off to me. I like 2006, and 2009/10. Really wish Robin would have been there for the Asia and 2010 your. I feel like Ron shines more in his later years with the band; maybe that due to Robin's absence?

Just listened to some of Osaka 07 last night. That's a really great recording of my favorite line up of the band.
Is it Robin that cements that version of the band for you?

Are there any soundboards of the 1987 Marquee gigs that doesn’t have the fake crowd noise mixed in?
I think I’m right in saying the Live In The Jungle EP tracks are from the Marquee and don’t have the rubbish crowd mixed in like the Niven disc?
There is a mix that doesn't have the crappy crowd noise. It's hard to find though since the start of all the takedowns

I completely agree with Vicky's assessment. Izzy was almost certainly the songwriting glue that knit Guns together.
Indeed, the thing that set made all the influences come together was Izzy. Not having him on the tour guarantees a mediocre album almost.

Are you frightened you're going to run into Philip Schofield?
That has crossed my mind, but not this time. Mainly just the tinnitus I have in my ears. Also, that doesn't register as much for someone from the United States as I figure from the UK.

Question:
Has anyone, since the NITL tour started, seen them front of stage at the Pit? I just bought tickets to the Atlanta, Bobby Dodd Stadium, show in August. I REALLY loved the Charlotte show last year from the floor. I have bad hearing problems and I was wondering if I should bring protection or is it not too bad up front?
-
They started playing it very late in the UYI tour, what's considered the "Skin and Bones tour" in 1993. Before, up until that point in the tour, they usually played "It's Alright" by Black Sabbath or Axl would just play a solo on the piano. The most known version is from Turin, in 1993; there's a soundboard version from the Argentina 1993 show (second), but much like the Rock In Rio shows, the radio announcer speaks over the intro of the song. I think the same is true about the first night (July 16th).

Of course there were some good performances between 2012-14. I was at the last Vegas 2014 shows and he sounded really good, but those shows were above the standard for that era. As far as This I Love, he still used rasp on the chorus in 2012 most of the time, but it was clearly getting harder for him by 2014 (I think Golden Gods was the first time he didn't even attempt parts of the 2nd verse?). In 2016 his voice on the chorus was almost as good as 2010, and the verses were generally pretty strong. I haven't watched the HOB 2012 show since it happened, and I remember it being all over the place vocally (pretty sure he actually did have a cold or something at that show... KOHD especially stood out to me, and not in a good way). But, look up the performance from Seattle 2016, that's honestly my favourite performance of the song from NITL. He sounded strong throughout the whole song at plenty of performances in 2016.
I'd love to post videos, but y'know.... Wanker's a fucking loser who sits around waiting to take videos down.
The LALD screams were stronger in 2012? I don't remember that. Vegas 2016 had the best LALD screams in a loooooong time and the NA run had consistently great, powerful screams on that song. He used to hold the notes longer in 2012 but they certainly weren't as powerful. Jungle was consistently strong in 2012-14 but there was just a different attitude to that song in 2016, I'm not sure how to properly explain it. It's not just about the rasp, there's a sharpness and attitude in his voice that comes out when he's 'on', if you know what I mean.
Which video of My Michelle from 2012 did you see? I'd like to hear it.
He did sound better because he gave a fuck, though. That's what rehearsing and working with a vocal coach means. He wanted to prove something, there was an incentive for him to do well, and he worked hard and fucking nailed it. He *could* sound great for a full GNR set if he really worked on it, but that doesn't seem to be what he wants to do. Mickey is his comfort-zone.
I acknowledged that he had bad moments in 2016. The South American tour was weaker than the North American tour. Certain songs were weak at every show. But I don't think it's as simple as 'screaming = rasp', if we use Houston 2016 as an example (I know that show is one of the best, but just for arguments sake) he used rasp on Better, Coma, Rocket Queen, and he wasn't screaming his way through those songs. I'm sure you could find great performances from 2012-14, but he was more consistently good in 2016.
I also think, on the AC/DC point, it's a point of pride for him to be playing with his idols. Doesn't want to fuck it up. And, plus AC/DC fans probably wouldn't take any bullshit. They're such a massive band, you can't half-ass something like that. It also does help that the songs don't require his head voice all that much, or his upper mid range that songs like SCOM use.

I had an interesting thought, not sure if a topic like this has existed before-I couldn't find anything; albeit, I suck with the search function.
If you could "copy" and "paste" any member of GN'R, any era, into another era: Who would you pick and why?
P.S. I know steven and Izzy on the NITL would be number 1 for most el oh el.
I think Matt Sorum with the Nu-GN'R era would be fantastic, he's a heavy hitter, and would definitely add to the metal tinges that line some of CD and the leaks. While I love Josh and Brain's drumming, it would be interesting to see how Matt could transform a lot of the material. I think a song like TWAT or Prostitute could be interesting.

You know what'd be even cooler, releasing UYI shows from the countries that are getting cancelled, or NuGNR. I don't care. I want more soundboards damnit
