  1. Heck of a game between Seattle and St. Louis. Glad the Rams pulled it out. Got a great defense and it looks like Foles is the real deal at QB. I'm gonna enjoy this last season in St. Louis, because the Rams will be playing in LA next year. And St. Louis will never get a football team again.

I'm very happy my Steelers will have Bell back from suspension when they play the Rams in 2 weeks

  2. steelers will be kicking themselves watching that game tape tomorrow.

Yup. I don’t think you’ll find a Steelers fan on the planet that’s a fan of the D since their last Super Bowl run. The highly suspect D (particularly leaving people uncovered and untouched) has been an unfortunate constant since at least the 2011 season. I don’t know if you remember the playoff game vs. Tebow, but it was quite literally that very same problem which sunk them in OT.

Cam Heyward, Jarvis Jones, Ryan Shazier, and Bud Dupree have been their 1st round picks the last 4 drafts, so it’s pretty obvious a concerted effort has been made to shore up the defense as veterans like Ike Taylor, Troy and James Harrison aged or retired. While Heyward has been solid, Jones basically missed 2 seasons to injuries and Shazier almost all of last year to injury, so those players haven’t had crucial development time and the Steelers’ D has been unable to reap any sort of benefit.

While the Steelers’ scouts are probably the best in the league when it comes to WRs as evidenced by such players as Antonio Brown, Martavis Bryant or Emmanuel Sanders, they’re probably the worst in the league when it comes to CBs. The last good CB they drafted was Ike Taylor a lifetime ago. They took 3 CBs in the draft this year and 2 got cut while the other is likely on the IR for the entire season, so once again the Steelers’ D is unable to benefit even remotely from those draft picks. Don’t forget that the Steelers never ever make a big splash during free agency (I think Blount was literally their only signing last year), so the draft is their only real way of improving the D and suffers greatly when their picks don’t pan out.

What's truly unfortunate is that while the Steelers' D needs major improvements, other than a successor for Heath Miller at some point, I really can't think of a single major upgrade their offense needs when (barring suspensions for Mary Jane) they have perhaps the 2 best WRs and RB in the league. Ben probably only has 5 years left given the punishment and backyard style of football he loves to play, so I think every fan is really hoping their D finally comes together before we have to start thinking about drafting a successor for Ben and the Super Bowl window closes.

  3. Hey Marc! Saw in a different thread you saying you met Buckethead..What was that like? What is he like? What are your thoughts on him as a musician?

Bucket was cool. I remember the first time I heard about him, Axl came by my house and showed me a bucked head CD and said "I want you to hear this guy". I said thats your guy before i even heard the CD. I think Bucket is a great guitar player and not because he can play fast. I also think Bucket has an image unlike a lot of the guitar players that are around today. I know that it may have not been a GNR image that a lot of people were expecting but still he had a presence and you really don't see that in guitar players anymore. Also he played the old guitar parts really well and even added his own touch sometimes like at the end on in Nightrain and NR. He was very humble and didn't try to upstage Slash. Off stage he was a very nice guy.

Don't get me wrong no one can replace Slash, there is only one Slash but since Slash was not going to be there, Bucket was a good choice. Also Axl worked well on the things that Bucket came up with. Remember when you change the cooks in the kitchen the food is going to taste different but still going to be something good as long as there are good cooks.

Marc, just out of curiosity was Axl as equally excited to work with Robin once he was in Guns' or was Buckehead joining perhaps the most excited Axl had been for the future of Guns' since Slash left?

  4. I just recently got into them and I get that same euphoric feeling as when I first blasted Gn'R. So that's a good sign. Robert Smith is a genius of the highest order. Amazing songwriting.

Glad you're enjoying them. What album(s) have you started with?

Friend of mine posted The Caterpillar on FB. I knew of Smith and The Cure but had never actively listened to them and I dug the song and the weird vibe of the video. Started with logically, the Top and after that Seventeen Seconds, since I really liked A Forest. Never heard anything quite like this before in my life apart from maybe Joy Division. Amazing songwriting and the songs are STILL growing on me. Have listened to Desintegration, Wish, Faith, Pornography, Kiss Me, A Head in the Door, their debut and the 2 albums I mentioned above by now, but still can't quite decide what I like best. Every album is quite unlike the other. I think this will be my favourite band for a long, long time. This is pure artistry at it's finest, (mostly) no filler and all killer.

Be sure to check out the Bloodflowers album when you can. It's very much a sequel to Disintegration while retaining some of the pop elements of Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me.

  6. I actually liked The Gift a lot more than Gone Girl. I wasn't a huge fan of Gone Girl's second half

I think a big part of Gone Girl's problem is that Ben Afleck - outside of Good Will Hunting - is a horrific actor. Imagine how much better Gone Girl might've been with Leo DiCaprio or someone even remotely competent as an actor in that role instead.

  7. I know Gone Girl was very popular around here so I gotta' recommend this flick as found it to be very much in the same vein. Lots of nods to Hitchcock and classic flicks like Fatal Attraction and Unlawful Entry while still being quite fresh and full of twists and turns:

  8. To be honest, nothing could surpass the disappointment I felt the first time I listened to CD. Even if the band never reunites, that album, and what Axl has turned Guns into over the past 15 years, is by far much more disappointing than shitting on a possible reunion no one ever expected would happen anyway. The damage has already been done.

    A bit melodramatic, no?

  9. The fuck is going on here? The Battle Of Endor alone makes ROTJ better than all prequels combined. And really, nothing about the prequels is as poignant as Yoda's death in ROTJ. This shouldn't even be in question.

Luke unmasking Vader is just as poignant, if not more so. This blog rather surgically breaks down all that is wrong with ROTJ:

Yea, every kid loves a whimsical romp about trade embargos and diplomacy.

Whimsical romps with Ewoks and Jaba's gang of hand-puppets are way cooler
