  1. Load is my second favourite Metallica album right after Puppets. Sometimes, it's nice to just get a break from traditional metal, and Load shows how well Metallica can actually craft songs.

Some definite classics on both: King Nothing, The Outlaw Torn, Fixxxer, Where The Wild Things Are, Mama Said. I agree that there is some filler on Reload, but I feel like I can listen to every song (including Cure and Poor Twisted Me) on Load without disliking it. In fact, I love them. Plus, Hetfield's vocals on the album are spectacular and awesome to listen to on each individual track.

  2. Big whoop.

Buying songs off of iTunes and other things like it is lame. The physical copy is where it's at.

Tell that to people that have to shell out $30 for hard to find albums. I was able to purchase an EP on iTunes for $4 Canadian whereas in stores, it costs $19.99. For four fucking songs.

So, yeah, it is a big whoop sometimes.

  3. I wasn't likely to enjoy it anyway, this sort of music just isn't my cup of tea. But there is nothing interesting here, no hooks or melodies or anything like that. Just beats and Michael singing how everyone is out to get him because he's Michael Jackson.

A release like this kind of sucks, one must wonder if MJ would have even wanted to release this song. But he's not around so others make the call.

I agree about the Britney comparison too:

Except Circus was written after this song was.

  4. It's never good when a singer drops his own name in his song.

    Still a solid song though.

    EDIT: I fucking love this.

I really like this song. However, it's true that mentioning your own name a few times is annoying. If this is an unfinished pop song, then it's pretty damn good.

  5. There was a collective groan from the audience as Del James pokes his head from behind some amps to tell the bassist from Danko Jones to keep playing. Now, Danko Jones weren't awful (they weren't anything special either), but the clock had just struck 9pm. This was the time Guns had arranged the starting time for Guns N' Roses, that was promised by the venue. And it's not lke the band wasn't around. Ashba had greeted the fans a mere two and half hours before, and could be seen waiting backstage to go on.

Following the Jones set, which started at 8pm (roughly), and lasted about an hour and fifteen minutes, DJ and Bumble could still be seen at the side of stage, both tapping their imaginary watches to the members of the crowd that noticed them. We then waited for well over another hour. And don't give me this shit about "that's how long the turn around takes", because that's a lie. They had everything ready in Belfast in close to 30 minutes. The sound of booing echoed through the arena, broken by the occasional Mexican wave. As the waiting went on, so did the booing, but it was suddenly drowned out as the lights went down. Axl was ready, apparently.

As Ashba played the opening riff of Chinese Democracy, and the band finally exploded on stage, much of the crowd was jumping and singing along, or at least head banging to the music. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. No more than two minutes into the song, Axl has some issue with his microphone pack, and was grounded in one place whilst a roadie desperately tried to fix it. I got the feeling he was rushed on stage. Perhaps his solid stance was an omen for the rest of the night. He ripped out his earpiece in ager, and stormed off.

There are still some boos by the end of the title track, but I got the impression it was still a notification that we weren't happy with the lateness. As Ashba tore into the legendary Welcome To The Jungle, the cheers were deafening. The wait may have been long, but it looked like we were about to see a hell of a show. Of course, before Axl even sings a word, he stops the song because a plastic cup or bottle was thrown on stage. Sure, whoever threw someone was a bit of a dick, but that's perfectly reasonable after making an audience that has paid pretty hefty prices to see your show, wait that length of time. This isn't South America, Axl's on his last legs here, he's already been slaughtered in the press for Reading/Leeds, he can't get away with this. It's just pure arrogance. He gives us the now catchphrase like warning, and jumps back into the song.

I can't quite remember exactly when this part happened, but there was a pretty long time in one of the opening tracks (I think it was Jungle, I haven't watched the video) were Axl was completely out of time with the band, throwing them and the crowd totally off. Axl gets pissed again, and storms off stage.

Predictably, It's So Easy, Mr. Brownstone and Sorry without fault, showcasing the bands talent and showing signs of a show as good as the one in Belfast the night before. But oh no... Axl introduces Richard Fortus, then suddenly says "Have a good evening", holds up an empty plastic bottle and storms off yet again, this time what looked like for good. Funny that the bottle was thrown at Fortus (I don't think it hit him, I'm not sure), who seemed happy enough to keeping on rocking into the James Bond theme, but Axl decided enough was enough. I got a very strong sense that he'd been looking for an excuse to stop the show and leave. Some woman comes out, talks about technical difficulties, I couldn't really hear her from where I was. It was pretty much inaudible.

The boos and "what the fuck"s are taking over the arena, broken by loud chants of "We want Slash!" I should note, this was certainly not a dig at Ashba, who impressed a load of people so far, even at this early stage. Everyone I talked to found it hard to take their eye off him, he was great. The lights are still down, but there's a collective feeling in the atmosphere "They're not coming back." After another ten minutes, the promoter comes out on stage and apologises, promising us a good show and telling us not to throw things. Soon after this, the lights come up, and a load of people simply leave the show, and go to collect their refund. Even more left when a surge to the barrier in an attempt to storm the stage resulted in a mini-riot/fight between security and angry fans broke out, leaving many pretty bloody. I noticed a security guard knocking the shit into some random fan, and the security guard was actually held back and thrown out by other security guards.

About thirty/forty minutes after the leaving the stage, the lights go down again. I've no idea what was said backstage, but from what followed, I got the impression the band had heavy words with Axl, and he was told that he would not be paid if he didn't finish the show. I'm not sure the band and Axl have made eye contact since, and we respected the Guns for it. One man who had lost the entire audience, was W. Axl Rose. The guys came back out, it's about 11.30pm now (roughly), and they kick into Live & Let Die. The band looks pumped, ready to give the show the crowd deserves. Why should the show be ruined for everyone else because of some drunk prick? He should've been kicked out, and that's that. That's what gives me even more backing in my theory that Axl was looking for an excuse. If it was a glass bottle, I could understand, but anyway... on with the show. Axl picks his spot in the middle of the stand, leaning against the frame for most of the show from then on (Better at Download 2006). From this point on, they increased the volume of the guitars, and it felt like a unity was established of crowd and music once again. Tommy came and said something, I don't remember it much. He just mentioned the show in 2006 and said not to let them down or something... Throughout the show, some of the biggest cheers I heard from where I was was the various solo spots. They rocked, and the fans from where I was were really into them. Again, it seems a unity was established of "Fuck Axl", and the crowd and the band went on.

Two men stole this show. Ashba and Bumblefoot. To be fair, the entire band was fantastic, and what started as The Axl Show turned into the Better Off Without Axl Show. It really made Axl appear the weak link, and that he is holding the rest of them back from writing some killer music themselves. The "Hired Guns" looked and sounded like a tight and kick-ass rock and roll band, putting on a hell of a show. To anyone who says "This isn't a band", yes, you're right, but that's down to one, Axl Rose. These other guys fucking rocked the crowd.

Despite everything from intros/solos/singalongs being cut short (Axl whistling to the band like dogs when he decided to play November Rain as they were doing Another Brick In The Wall Intro/Axl cutting the Paradise City and possibly Nightrain solos short/Cancelling the Knockin' On Heaven's Door singalong) to Axl's cardboard cut-out stance, it was a fantastic night. I got the Guns N' Roses experience. That said, had I not seen the Belfast show the night before, I might not feel that way. I was extremely impressed by the band, and it's interesting to wonder what could come of them with a different frontman. It's funny, I said to my friend "I'll be happy if there's at least one difference between this show and the Belfast one". They couldn't have been more different. The contrast from Axl winning over a crowd of 14,000 with his world-class performance in Belfast, to leaning on the stage for two hours only 24 hours later. And speaking of that, 24 hours earlier at the Belfast show, Axl was hit with a backpack which he put on, smiled and laughed with the crowd during Knockin' On Heaven's Door. It was an experience I wouldn't change at all. It was memorable to say the least.

Guns rocked Dublin last night, but we could've done without the Rose.

Nice review, although I disagree with one point. I'm not going to try to defend Axl's actions. To be honest, it's childish. However, so is throwing a bottle at the man. It's not a "perfectly reasonable" response to throw a bottle. It's immature and quite frankly, just as dumb as Axl's actions. Booing is fine. Leaving is fine. Even chanting hateful messages is fine in this kind of scenario. However, whoever throws a bottle at Axl should know that he won't react by just ducking it and moving on with the show.

I understand the frustration and to be honest, I've been there. I was in my hometown waiting for Guns to come on and they finally did after about two hours (I had classes in the early morning, so I was getting a little annoyed). So, yes, I can understand what people are thinking when a band shows up that late. However, I would never think about throwing something at the man because I know it's Axl Rose. The guy who is so bothered by something like that, and someone who would easily make my $80-$90 night end very abruptly. It's nonsense.

This is not to say that Axl's in the right here, because he isn't. I think it's unfortunate that a few minor incidents and a few people (Axl included) could have such a significantly negative impact on a mass audience. I'm disappointed by this news and hope that Axl somehow learns a lesson in this.

  6. The album is a great debut. Far from forgettable. It can only get better from a debut like that.

That being said, it's not earth-shattering or anything, but it's a fairly fun rock record with a lack of hooks. I agree with an earlier sentiment that Era Vulgaris is better. It's my favourite QotSA album, and it knocked me on my ass when I heard all of it at first.

  7. Wow. What a show. After years of supporting this band and what they've been trying to accomplish, I am extremely pleased to see that I was supporting one hell of a band.

I was near the right side of the stage and loved every single minute of it. I avoided setlists up until last night, and I'm glad I did, because I wasn't expecting Rocket Queen or If The World (both of which kicked some serious ass btw).

I don't know what else I can say that hasn't already been said by other forum members. It was an extremely special night for me, and my fiancée absolutely loved the fact that This I Love was played near the end. My favourite of the night was either Madagascar or November Rain. Madagascar, along with Civil War, were the songs that got me into Guns N' Roses way back when I was finishing high school. To be able to see at least one of those live is something I will always cherish.

Many, MANY thanks to Axl, Tommy, DJ, Ron, Chris, Dizzy, Frank, Richard and the entire GNR crew for making this happen. An experience I'll never forget.

  8. No, she doesn't rival Prince or Bowie. That's ridiculous.

A few catchy hooks here and there. Surprised? No. That's what pop stars do. I'm sorry, but like someone else said, you won't be listening to her songs in 20 years, unless you're muttering the sentence, "Yeah, I liked her once when she was popular."

  9. Any winnipegers wondering...presale password is GLITTER apparently. I'm at work now so I can't check. But one of my friends is checking for me and says he found that password on a local forum with presale passwords. Apparently it IS working. But not that great of seats are coming

up unless GA is your thing.

Dude Just got home from School and did not know the password. Thanks to you tho I got 2 GA tickets. FUCKKK YEAH. Winnipeg going to be rocked.

Thanks alot dude for the password. Much appreciated.

No problem man. I'm checking every so often for good ones. Something tells me I'll be waiting till tomorrow for tickets. I don't want the floor, and the seating options for presale aren't too good last time I contacted my buddy...

Yeah I hear you. I sat in row 1 section 107 in '06 right beside the stage. It was amazing everyone was up the whole concert. Thought Id switch it upand hit up the GA this time.

I have a question. I want some good seats and I have a pre-sale code, but I am getting seats way at the back of the lower bowl. Do they limit what you can get for a pre-sale? I want to be closer without being on the floor.

  10. Okay, so the Canadian dates have been confirmed by GNR. Hurray for you!

Since it's being called the Chinese Democracy World Tour, I assume that somewhere down the line, there will be US dates, since we are part of the world. lol

But then again, who knows what Axl considers a "world tour" to be? I skeptical that Axl could hold up for a world tour. Most bands nowadays tour for a year or 2 to promote their cds and play many shows to meet the needs of their fans. Since the last so called US tour didn't really make people too excited, that could be why the US is left out, but then again, maybe if Axl and the GNR camp gave us some incentive and promised to actually do the whole tour, we fans might actually buy the tickets.

I this point, I really don't care either way. If there's a US tour one day soon, before I'm too old or dead, and GNR come to Dallas, I will buy tickets and hope and pray that Axl finishes the tour, but until then, I have so many favorite bands that have come to Dallas and will continue to tour the US as well as the rest of the world, so I'm good.

tour dates in asia, tour dates in north america, 2 continents = world tour. its not what most would consider a "World tour" to be, but it is a world tour. so the usage of "World tour" does not guarentee more dates, although we all expect more dates, whether they actually happen or not.

Then it shouldn't be called a World Tour. A real World tour would include all 7 continents, which would most likely include the US. You know the country where Axl lives and makes most of his money. But then like I said, since Axl isn't really reliable, the sales in the US probably wouldn't be worth them touring here. Either way, I won't lose any sleep over it. Like my friend said, if Axl and GNR did tour here, we probably would be disappointed anyway, since Axl's new GNR couldn't compare to the original act of 20 years ago and that is just so sad.

You do realize that the U.S. and Canada are in the same continent, right?

Anyways, Americans need to quit their bitching. I see you guys getting plenty of tours by awesome bands and I don't see anyone come around here ever. It might as well be Antarctica since hardly anyone rolls through here. I'm not talking about Toronto, either. I know plenty of bands go there, but people can't afford to just hop up and go to a massive city every month. I know I can't.

Besides, if you want a tour, then make CD 5 times platinum and beat us out. You have 10 times our population. Hop to it.

  11. Going to try to make Hamilton, London, and Toronto! Maybe Ottawa too. 3 shows would be pretty f'n awesome! I work till 8pm the night of the Toronto show, will probably get there around 9pm, which means I'll be there early.

Just curious, it looks like the Copps Coliseum in Hamilton is huge (18,000). Hamilton is only 60 miles from London, ON, and basically a suburb of Toronto. I want to possibly go to this show and the London show, but don't want to buy tickets for a show that will be sparsely attended or possibly canceled. Can anyone who lives in this area provide some info--is this normal for bands to book all three places, and sell well? Is Hamilton independent enough from Toronto, that the show will be able to sell well on it's own? Will Hamilton draw many fans from Buffalo, and that is why they are booking this date? Any info is appreciated.

    http://www.mygnrforum.com/index.php?showtopic=155718&pid=2525906&st=0entry2525906

Copps holds 18000+ for rock shows, it is far enough away from Toronto and with over 5 million people within 100 miles it is a huge market, Britney Spears just sold out a show here easily, GNR will sell out fast, it is normal for the bands to book it like this any fans that could not get in Toronto show come here and Buffalo fans would rather go here than Toronto because it is closer. GNR will be selling out in Hamilton for sure dude, I live in Hamilton BTW it is a strong music scene here, VR played to a packed house here as well...

    Gunsguy

The Ticketmaster seating chart for Guns N' Roses shows that they're tarping off almost half of the arena for the Hamilton show -

    30384s_a.gif

GA? That's so fucking awesome, I looked at the seat chart the other day and it looked seated on the floor...

Yeah they were going to do the exact same thing in 93 then ticket sales went through the roof and they opened seating all behind the stage

    Gunsguy

Unfortunately, at this point, they're probably going to have to tape off more to make that place look full . . .

This is Canada. We sell out our concerts. CD sold the most in Canada, so I'm sure people will fill these arenas.
