  1. Why everyone here assumes the high notes are gone forever? He rests some more days, gets a vocal coach and he'll keep going. Not the first he blows his voice.

My bet is that Mickey will come back since you can't really sing Jungle or SCOM with a lower register and they won't stop playing them. At least I hope that Axl learns from this and at least reduces it, keeps Mickey at minimun and sings some songs like Estranged, Civil War, YCBM fully in his normal voice.

  2. Do you guys think the 2 singles that may be released in summer will be the leaked tracks Perhaps, Atlas, State of Grace or unheard tracks? I'd like to hear unheard tracks of course but I'm very curious as how Slash will handle these leaked tracks.

BTW, if the album ain't released this year, the wait for it will be as long as it took CD to be released since TSI.

  3. The main problem with Invincible is too many ballads and not enough uptempo pop songs which always were MJ's best songs. And what's worst: in the later half of the record there are too many consecutive ballads.

Here's how I would fix Invincible, cutting ballads and subpar tracks that drag the album (Cry, Don't Walk Away, etc) and putting in their place uptempo and better songs from the same sessions. I made this version on Spotify and it flows very well imo.

    1. Unbreakable
    2. Heartbreaker
    3. Invincible
    4. Break of Dawn
    5. Heaven Can Wait
    6. You Rock My World
    7. Butterflies
    8. Blue Gangsta (I'd put the Xscape version because the original sounds too much like a demo, it wouldn't flow well with the album)
    9. Speechless
    10. (I Can't Make It) Another Day
    11. Chicago (same as Blue Gangsta)
    12. The Lost Children
    13. Whatever Happens
    14. Threatened
  4. It's an unusual lead single, Dark Necessities was far superior even if the guitar it's more interesting in this song. This song lacks a catchy riff, catchy bass line or catchy melodies. I'm still hyped about the album tho, glad it seem it's coming sooner than expected.

  5. Rocket Queen outro is the best Axl moment for me and what elevates that song to a great one to my favorite by GNR. The few times he nailed it live imo were Marquee 87 and opening for the Stones in L.A 89.

I think what separates his 80s voice from his 90s voice is that the 80's one had more vibrato and the 90's one was more nasal and had less vibrato.

91 shows where his voice was fucked up, with a crazy amount of rasp and he sounded like a Metal singer are cool to hear for me.

  6. The 2001-2002 shows had a controlled and slightly better Mickey but 0 rasp, the 2011 and 2012 shows had an uglier Mickey but at least a certain amount of rasp per show on songs like Jungle, Nightrain, WLR or Riff Raff. Disaster shows like Rio 11 or Bridge School were actually an exception.

BTW, in the shows with the Stones in 89 Axl sounds really good, a lot better than in late 88 and closer to 87. His voice definitely benefited of the rest after the end of the AFD tour.

  7. GNR fan myth #2351: Axl sounded good on 2001-2002. No, he didn't. It was a different kind of Mickey than the current one, more high-pitched and less like Herbert from Family Guy but still Mickey. On many songs he was the weak link of the band.

Also, when talking about Axl's voice in 1992 we should acknowledge how radically different he sounds if we compare the Tokyo shows at the beginning of that year and the south-american shows from december. He reduced the rasp to a minimum and sounded very nasal at the second half of the UYI tour.
