I still have it in my phone as Soul Monster. We only waited 15 years to hear it from the first time Axl mentioned it.
15 years! Axl really does live in his own little world.

I don't. We know he rerecorded the vocals for This I Love specifically for that remix. And there's no other vocals used in those remixes from unreleased songs. It's actually, based on what we know, and the information we have, very likely that Axl simply recorded that line specifically for the Prostitute remix.
Did brain or anyone else from GnR confirm when the This I Love remix vocals were done?

I highly down the blood in the water lyric was specially recorded for the remix. Could it have been from a discarded track, sure.
Agreed, although to hear some on here Axl has been continually creating multiple masterpieces in total private that he may or may not share with his fans

What about the Illusions?
Steven was fired, changing the sound
Axl took over some production duties and added a bunch of worthless overdubs
Izzy left during the tour

IMO Better would have been the best single music-wise. IF it had a video released, IF there had been a promotion, and IF there had been an immediate tour. Of course, none of that happened.
The way I see it, “What If” has been the story of GnR since Lies

I wish people would stop perpetuating this. Just because a song wasn't on the 2008 album, doesn't mean it wasn't ready or finished by then. We know Atlas was ready, it just didn't fit onto the disc. Baz said Axl said The General fit the "third album" best lyrically. Songs jumped between the first two albums. Catcher was considered for CD2 for a time. Hardschool was nearly ready in 2000, but was also on the list for CD2, at least in early 2008. Axl himself said CD2 would be out a year after the 2008 album, suggesting it was more or less ready then. In 2014 he said it was done for a while... They wouldn't have released a follow-up album of B-sides/discarded songs from the previous album, they were all from the same sessions over years of recording. Axl called CD2 the second part of Chinese. We only got half the story with the 2008 album, which is unfortunately because now our beloved CD2 is getting f***** by the NITL lineup, both from a performance and mixing standpoint.
I think you might be missing his point, as Atlas wasn’t mentioned anywhere in the lead up to your comment. Other than Hard Skool, the recent releases all feel incomplete due to repetitive and lazy lyrics in addition to some questionable production and mixing choices. They definitely feel like leftovers to me, even though I do really like Perhaps. If Perhaps was done during the Illusions I imagine someone would have assisted Axl with writing another verse or pushing him for another one before releasing it as is, but that’s just wishful thinking.
However, I do think the fact that we have Atlas and especially Monsters lends credibility to there being more of the so-called A list songs. I’m really interested in hearing a completed Oklahoma/Berlin, being that it was originally written by Axl.

Slash is iconic, I get it. Abilities don't necessarily make icons.
That's because Guns had multiple leads. They do today as well, and did back in the day as well. Izzy and Fortus play lead some of the time.
What songs on any Guns record has Fortus played lead on?

Except for Paul Tobias, Richard Fortus, Robin Finck, Buckethead, Bumblefoot, and DJ Ashba
Not one of those guys was ever THE lead guitarist for a single concert with Guns, so @Tom2112 is correct. You listed two rhythm guitarists, and then four who were co-leads.

Yes...and whatever it is...probably one of the big sticking points was not going back to how it was when they left....so returning more as an equal probably was a huge aspect of getting back together...
Yes....while not perfect, look we got superdeluxes of Appetite and Illusions...would never of happened pre-'16
I imagine that any financial discussions regarding the reunion began with the old partnership between the three. That would be easier than trying to start negotiations all over again from scratch.
And yes, the reunion has given us the pretty awesome box sets. The Ritz Blu Ray is my favorite GnR release since the Illusions came out.

Yeah, it is not really worth it.
The suggestion that the band could carry on without Slash did get me though- can you imagine?!
"You wanted 2024 GNR? Well they couldn't make it! So here's what you get instead......from the fevered dreams of the GNR forums.....it's 2012 GNR!"
But, but, they could get Buckethead back and release the ultimate CD leftovers and tour the world again!
in bowling alleys…

What amazes me with this is that they even altered individual lines in songs, so half of one line is from one show, half from another.
The amount of effort this must have taken is remarkable.....for what gain really? Madness.
Cocaine and ProTools are a helluva drug

Doesn't matter in the slightest. It's Axl's band, he calls all the shots, and that's about all we need to know anyway really.
That and when the new album is out of course.......
I get what you’re trying to do here, but it’s really pointless to engage with people who are lapping at Axl’s nuts. It’s like trying to get a MAGA chump to act like a human being with compassion for others.

Huh? There are some great lyrics in CD ...
You misunderstand me. I mean the lyrics on CD were fleshed out and feel complete, unlike the recent singles I listed.

I guess people just hear/ feel these GnR singles are somehow off/ unnatural and simply don't sound very good. The General is just ridiculous, I expected more (negative) reactions, but not many people give a fuck at all at this point if the product is of this quality.
To be fair, when anyone on the board states their opinion that the new singles are of lesser quality than anything Guns previously officially released, you get the same couple of posters who attempt to rationalize their Axl nut-swinging with long winded posts.

I like Absurd. Liked it even more when it was Silkworms and more experimental. But to say it could replace a song on CD I think is ABSURD
There isn’t a single song on CD that wasn’t fleshed out lyrically. Absurd, The General and even Perhaps are no way as good lyrically as any of the songs on CD.

What are the chances???
Monstrous Black Crowes fan here & of all the songs in all the world...Chris Robinson & Slash cover The Pusher 🫤
Blind Melon already does my all-time favorite version. It will not be topped.
Slash & Chris Robinson are still going strong. Make some original material & tour please.
The Black Crows have a brand new album and tour this year. Love that band

Agree, but he is no magician. You have to give him something to work with.
Agreed. Hard Skool would have benefited greatly from being completely re-recorded under Clink’s watch. Not sure what he could have done with the two shitty songs, Absurd and The General.

Hypothetical question:
Let's say that GN'R, instead of Slash solo, were about to release the same album of blues covers, and Axl sounded as good as Brian Johnson on Killing Floor, same with the rest of the band.
How would everybody feel about that?
I would look forward to it as I think blues songs would fit his voice as it now. Plus, the lack of pressure to come up with quality new material could be a plus

There's plenty! We have not even heard half of CD2 yet. Conservatively, we got at least half a dozen "new" songs to go.
What songs do we think has vocals? Do you still have that CD2 list from the former wrestler dude? Oklahoma is easily my favorite of the Village instrumentals.

No one here is claiming Axl is god or that we are suckers for wanting him to share his art. You are just lashing out after being told that the whining is embarrassing
Guns is a legacy touring band that may or may not ever put out a new album. They have put out 4 rehashed songs that were most likely originally created over 20 years prior. Considering it’s been over 15 years since the underwhelming CD was released, I’m not sure why anyone would feel any different. Axl has not stated that a new album is in the works. Until this happens, everything else is speculation even if it comes from Duff or Slash.
If this is whining, so be it

Slash has released a video to promote his new album. He just went and did it, didn't say it would come out in a week or so like Axl said on December 12, 2008. Has that video *ever* been released? "Soon is the word."
Shhhh, Axl is god and we’re all just suckers for wanting him to share his art. Be grateful for what you have!

I had no idea I tended to get involved whenever someone disagrees with @Rovim. That was a pattern I was not aware of. Pretty cool, though, I can live with that.
And yes, Axl and Guns ARE free to do whatever they want. I wouldn't want the alternative where artists HAD to create and release music after some arbitrary schedule rather than when they felt ready. I am happy you agree with this.
If you don't like people arguing with you then maybe a public discussion board is not the place for you? This is kind of designed for discussions, even arguments.
I like to point out the BS I read on here and will continue to do so. If someone can’t handle being called out for it, that’s not for me to worry or even care about. What I say should have no bearing on anyone other than perhaps giving a perspective different from what someone else sees or believes from their own perspective.

Duff McKagan on Guns N’ Roses tour and new solo album
in GUNS N' ROSES - DISCUSSION & NEWS
Posted
As much as we all wish it wasn’t so, it appears the only real creative outlet for Duff and Slash are to release their own albums outside of Guns. Sure, they worked on some old songs that were previously recorded by another band, and I sincerely hope we get a compilation album with some more unheard tracks. But they didn’t create those songs.
The next album Duff puts out will consist of songs he recorded or updated during the lockdown specifically for his own solo projects.
