  1. The argument could be made, baring in mind I don't think this is real at all, that artists often sing better in the studio than they ever do live, whether it's through studio techniques, rigorous vocal warm ups before each section of a song, or just the fact that a live setting is much different to a studio one. So I wouldn't say Axl could never record vocals like that, but I still don't think these are real at all.

I saw Fortus play with faux Guns 2012ish and his stage presence seemed contrived, too much Sunset Strip posturing and string bashing. He was trying too hard.

    So did Axl!

I would like him to return, I'm just saying he's not needed as Fortus does what he does just fine. I'm not saying I don't want Izzy back. Obviously if Izzy came back I wouldn't miss Fortus.

  3. Would I like Izzy to be back in the band and be a part of the partnership again? Yes, do I think he's necessary at this point, no, the band is doing fine with this tour without him. Fortus is fine at what he does. If Izzy didn't want to be a part of it that's his problem. As others have said, he left the partnership willingly years ago.

Very Good point. Although I can personally say that I love MJ's music and showmanship but still think he probably was twiddling with the kiddies. Eh, but who knows really.

I honestly wouldn't be able to listen to someone if I thought they had molested children. I don't think he did and I also think the fact that Axl named MJ as one of his favourite singers a few years ago puts that story in a lot of doubt.

Anyway, I hope that they are making a documentary also, would be very interesting to know how this thing came together in detail.

Go ahead and like CD.  But calling it a masterpiece is just not credible.  That opinion puts you in a small minority, most of whom are Axl's entourage.  A masterpiece is a rock n' roll classic.  And Chinese Democracy is no classic.  It's not a subjective matter.  No credible rock n' roll publication or critic holds Chinese Democracy out as a masterpiece.  And, as widely reported, most Guns n' Roses fans do not want to hear it -- including Howard Stern and multiple interviewees at Concerts, as reported by Alternative Nation.  http://www.alternativenation.net/howard-stern-doesnt-want-guns-n-roses-play-chinese-democracy-payday/

All the overdubs and multi-tracked vocals and guitars just ruin the album.  There are a couple of OK songs, and some good ideas on others.  But most of the songs just don't come together, because the album lacks a stylistic focus and because of the perfectionism.  The title track and Shackler's Revenge are ok.  But the others just don't come together, e.g., second verses/riffs that sound like entirely different songs (e.g., Riad n' the Bedouins, Scraped).   As a GnR fan, I'm also embarrassed by the choir and synth openings (TWAT, Madagascar, Prostitute, If the World, Scraped, & even Better has a terrible intro).  And then on other songs with generally good music, the lyrics fall short or the songs goes nowhere (Sorry, Better, Catcher in the Rye).   Seriously, lyrics like "I'll kick your ass like I said I would" on "Sorry" take a good song and put it into "Get in the Ring Territory."   And the navel-gazing self-pity on TWAT is off-putting.   So, just mediocre.

I'm with Jon Pareles, the New York Times reviewer, who wrote that Chinese Democracy is "a shipwreck, capsized by pretensions and top-heavy production.  In its 14 songs there are glimpses of heartfelt ferocity and despair, along with bursts of remarkable musicianship.  But they are overwhelmed by countless layers of studio diddling and a tone of curdled self-pity." J. Pareles, "How Axl Rose Spent All That Time," (N.Y. Times, Nov. 23, 2008), available at http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/23/arts/music/23pare.html

As you should be able to tell from the above, I've given Chinese Democracy plenty of chances.  I bought it, listened to it, and waited 15 years for it.  It was a massive disappointment, primarily because of the over-production, but also because Axl tried to do with without the rest of the band.   Having lived through that disappointment, I'd prefer not to be reminded of it at a concert where I am paying hundreds of dollars for a "reunion" of the original band, which implies they will be playing songs from their prime.   When Chinese Democracy songs bump "Don't Cry" or "Patience," and indeed, all of the songs from "Lies," then that is a problem.

1-2 songs off CD would be fine, especially since Axl's doing my personal favorite from Illusions, "Coma."  But 3-4 is a bit much.

I'm afraid it is a subjective matter, just because you don't like that people have a different opinion than you doesn't mean you can just try and act like yours is fact, you seem like someone who can't fathom the idea of people not thinking like you do. I don't mind that CD songs are on the set list, although I wish they'd stop doing better, he can't sing that song well live anymore. I do think CD is a masterpiece honestly, I can listen to it all the way through and enjoy every moment. I agree a lot of people think differently but that doesn't mean that my opinion is wrong, it is just that, an opinion, not fact. You seem to think that just because you're in the majority it makes the minority's opinion irrelevant or somehow conclusively wrong, that's not how it works.

Chi-Dem fans keep talking around the facts:  Appetite (18x), Use Your Illusion I & II (7x each) and Lies (5x) are 5-18 times more popular than Chi-Dem.   But we're getting just 0-1 songs from Lies, 3 songs from Use Your Illusion I, 3-4 songs from Use Your Illusion II, AND 3-4 from Chi-Dem??!!!

That's ridiculous!   Chinese Democracy is nowhere near as important as either Illusion album or Lies (which includes a Top 5 hit and the Live! Like a Suicide demo).

This isn't about bashing Chi-Dem.  This is about why are we getting so much of Axl's unimportant solo album instead of signature songs from the classic records that we ALL love!

That said, I'm with AxlsFavoriteRose that the Chinese Democracy songs give you time during a concert to hit the bathroom.  They're also great for waiting on line for drinks -- I sing the lyrics to "Better" while I'm waiting for a Budweiser...

I don't understand why people keep talking about facts as if that just makes the fact some people like CD and Axl likes CD irrelevant. They're in the show because Axl wants them to be, he has even said he enjoys performing those songs the most. It's obviously important to him, he spent years working on that album, whether it was worth it or not is up to opinion, but it was still his time and effort he spent during that process, I doubt you'd want to let that go if you spent so much of your life on it. And lol at "this isn't about bashing chi-dem" immediately followed by calling it "Axl's unimportant solo album". I understand wanting more classic tracks. There's quite a few I'd like to see on the set list at some point, I personally think they should remove better and replace it with something from the classic albums, as Axl really can't or won't sing it correctly atm.

Just a live a clip, without the crowd mixed in.

Maybe a remaster next year, but no re-recording. How many times does Axl need to record AFD? I think they got it sufficiently the first time around, but re-mix/master wouldn't hurt with some bonus material.

No remastering please. 99% of the time remastering these days just means turn the level up and compress the hell out of it. I would welcome a remaster if I thought it would actually sound better than the original but with mastering practices nowadays I doubt that would happen. I second that there should be some sort of bonus material if a re-release is planned.

Could be cool as bonus material for a reissue of Appetite.  In a filler sort of capacity.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. People are acting like them re recording some songs is going to make the original somehow vanish. I don't see what's so bad about some bonus material. I doubt this is happening though.

Also, is it just me or is that more brutal 90s rasp even returning to extent, not heard it like this for a LONG time...Like primal Axl times -
Fucking brilliant - this vocal coach is doing sum good work for sure!

Yeah the "My hands are tied" was really raspy. It reminded me of old style rasp more than his Chinese Democracy era style.

  10. I give credit to my mother for most of the music I listen to. Although I didn't get into the full GnR catalogue until quite recently, I knew the hit songs and one that did actually stick with me was Don't Cry but I mainly listened to the Chinese Democracy album for a while, I listened to the other albums too but nowhere near as much, thanks to the reunion I've been delving deeper and have listened to all the albums. I'm a pretty big MJ fan so I have always known who Slash was but didn't really think deeper than that. Songs like November Rain and Don't Cry were new to me but somehow familiar thanks to my mum listening to them, it was a nice feeling. I now have a whole new appreciation for the band in general and that's why I found this forum, so I could talk about the band I now love with people who love it as much as I do :D
