How many people have you heard imitate Brian's vocals to the point that it's hard to tell which is real?  I've heard a lot.

how many people have you heard imitate Axl successfully?  Remember the analysis done a couple years ago that said he was the singer with the greatest range, even over Mariah Carey?

the two bands call for different vocal skills.  Ask a professional singer or vocal coach.

the idea that he tries harder for ACDC than GNR is absurd.

can we get back on the topic rather thank having the same silly debate that will never be resolved?  I saw Axl work his ass off yesterday, and I'll see the same tomorrow.  Good night.

The greatest range was incorrect however I agree with the rest of your post.

Best not to respond to conspiracy theory loons making claims of Axl intentionally holding back or the equally retarded people who cant wrap their small minds around the fact that time waits for no man.

All HD I have heard sounds very good all things considered. I have also heard low def shite recordings of the same performances.

Seriously! I have no desire to hear Slash and Duff's additions to CD era stuff.  Maybe a song or two but most of what I have heard from that era sucked... I would much rather hear Axl work on the album Izzy, Slash, Duff and Matt recorded. I bet the songs are much more complete and are more likely to sound like GnFnR...

Its pretty clear that there is no material with slash, Axl and duff....so... no.

This. New music needs to be NEW, eg not a slash solo slapped on one of Axls CD2 songs.

Axl Slash & Duff need to produce something fresh or dust off something from pre break up. Ether way it will take time, that's time on top of the time it's going to take to feel each other out & start rebuilding relationships.

Some people expect to much far to soon.

Nothing would kill this dead in the water for me more than a NuGNR sounding song released with Slash & Duff playing on it. I hope they can recapture the essence & sound of Guns n Roses on some level.

They released a bunch of tickets last week. After these tour sales, I've finally accepted that it's practically pointless to buy Guns tickets right when they go on sale. You can get better tix closer to the date, for potentially less money. I hate that the band has to do their die-hards like that.

You're right, I agree, and you all are the winners!  The somewhat important context to my comment was....

IF the current lineup is not that different than NuGNR (as previous poster stated, and which I disagree with), THEN I would ALSO say it's not that different than the Illusion Era GNR.  I do think the current lineup is closer to Illusion Era than NuGNR.

Ok your point is now clearer however I still disagree respectfully.

Until we see a big shift in performsnce in sound I feel we are still closer to nugnr at this stage. The current state of replacements are not close to the fit that Matt & Gilby were.

to compare the current incarnation of the band to illusion era (the height of guns fame) would be short sighted at best & quite disengenuis.

I agree, tours make their money from the general public. Most of them have no clue who the heck Steven or Izzy are, the obsession with the "original 5" is largely confined to fan message boards.

I disagree, there are loads of people out there  who grew up listening to Guns who knew who the band consisted of. Matt & Gilby were accepted as adequate replacements at the height of guns fame because they fitted in seamlessly with the music already written.

I know a lot of people like myself, view guns as a band that ceased to exist post 93. The preceding years was Axls blight on the legacy.

I went to see Axls band in Brisbane 07, it was the worst show I have ever seen in my life. I left that show  honestly crushed  by the representation of the band I grew up loving. Because if that show I have never listened to CD.

I am looking foward to seeing Axl, Slash & Duff play together again (the reason I joined the forum) but I am well aware that Izzy & Stephan are not there & would be sceptical about a new album with out Izzys contribution.

If it's for fans ,cool. If it's for hipsters that know SCOM,not so much. Then again that brings up the debate of who is and who isn't a "real fan"   If this is real,it's the kind of thing fan club members should have first crack at. Not that someone can't be a big fan if they can't afford a $50 plus membership but it'd be a nice bonus.  I don't know why I typed all that,it's probably not happening.

What makes you think a paid member of an internet forum is more a "real fan" than someone who is not?

I'm sorry but statements like this are ridiculous!

LOL. I'm not missing the point at all.

If I said Justin Bieber is greater than the Beatles, and his Youtube views proves it.....you all would say that youtube videos meant dick.

But now you are using Youtube videos to give props to GnR.

    So just so I'm clear.

Youtube views are now a good way to judge how awesome a band / video or song is. I just want us all to remember that a month from now when somebody says that a Slash video got more views or FB likes or whatever than a GnR CD song and somebody pops up "that doesn't mean anything."

If Youtube views are something we can use to say how awesome GnR is.........then Youtube likes are good for every band/artist and song. Because the same dude who watched a Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber video might be the same guy who watched November Rain....so his "awesome and cool" viewing has to apply and have the same weight/value for GnR as it does for Bieber.

    But whatever, bub.

You guys can love it all you want. You can think it's the most awesome thing ever. I personally don't. That really shouldn't matter to you! Love what you want!!!!

I think it's less about the last tour and more about the previous line up. No one said the current situation is just like having DJ and Bumble in the band. It's similar to the UYI situation imo.

Its looks similar, but its far from it. Matt & Gilby were brought into GnR at the bands peek of commercial success. They joined a well oiled "Real GnR" Machine. Matt played on "real" GnR albums.

That is not the case for the others now. They are Axl's Men from Axl's band that flew the GnR flag, now playing with returning original members.

Two very different situations that look somewhat similar.

Trust me, you're in the majority. Disgusts me to see posters on here downplay the greatness of the AFD lineup and downright insult them by saying they prefer CD era stuff. They're not real fans imo. Axl Slash Izzy Duff and Steven is Guns N' Roses, nothing more, nothing less.

Couldn't have said it any better myself

As recently as September he was complaining that Slash and Duff didn't like him and were essentially big jerks because they were fed up with him or didn't believe he was sober for real now, so he was still victimizing himself to some degree then. I just find the only times he really will take responsibility for his actions is if he has something to gain from it and he knows it's what people want to hear from him.

Slash & Duff did not transform overnight the day they got sober & Steve wont ether. He has some large chunks of truth about himself he will have to digest over time.

Steve may have become less functional much quicker than the others & stayed inconsistent much longer but that is irrelevant once continuous sobriety is achieved.

Of course the second part of your post is possible as well. Being someone long term sober myself & being in a position to watch other people achieve that also (sometimes late in life & after a long struggle). I am rooting for Steve to get there himself.

I like how you brush being an unreliable trainwreck under the rug like it's silly to hold it against him. Unlike a guy like Duff, Adler didn't grow up, he didn't get sober, he didn't sit back and look at things from other's perspective to understand how his actions lead to him being fired or friends distancing themselves from him. He's whined about it and played victim for 26 years while being on again off again sober. The only reason people think it's realistic to have him in the band is because Slash and Duff are back, not because Adler himself did anything to earn the chance.

Getting sober happens at different times & in different ways for people. Steve is a dead set 100% "Real" alcoholic / drug addict. It kills most people before they get to stop. If  he is sober & starting to take responsibility for his lot in life (he wont get sober with out doing that) then there is no reason he wont eventually become as reliable as the others. I have heard him quoted saying he used to blame the others for everything & those resentments kept him relapsing. He claims to now understand that he was responsible for what happened, not the others. If you had any understanding of alcoholism you would understand these words, if true go, a long way in him starting to recover.

Yeah that's kind of my thought, I know what Steven said about playing on the AFD stuff, but I think that's being misinterpreted. I don't think he was saying he would ONLY play that stuff, but he was meaning more to the effect of, he would LIKE to play that stuff and if they wanted someone else to play the other stuff he was just fine with that. More of a "get along-compromise--keep everybody happy" type attitude. Basically, I think he was saying he didn't want to step on anyone's toes.

    This.

I recall him saying, at some point in time possibly around RRHOF, something along the lines of sharing drumming duties with Matt. Steve playing AFD tunes & Matt playing UYI. It was very much in the spirit of compromise & inclusion, not at all to be interpreted as "I will only play AFD tunes.

Regardless of what fans of the new band think, Steve was around for & contributed to the sound of the real 'GnR'. AFD, Lies & there were songs on UYI that had been around since AFD & others that Steve would have worked on & jammed before he got the boot.

If Steve is honest to goodness almost two years sober & can prove that through the consistency of his actions, he will be apart of this at some point. It will speak to Slash & Duffs sobriety.
