He is the first and the last emperor of Byzantium. Who else can claim this? Axl cannot compare to him.

At least, thanks to that mega star dude, after all those years we've learned how those songs are supposed to be sung
2 hours ago, jekylhyde said:What turns me off the most is those constant "yeahs" and "come ons" he shouts everytime there isn't anything to sing. (At least that's what he did on Mr. Brownstone.) That sounds so amateurish. And poser-y.
Haha that's the signature of Myles Kennedy, except that he shouts "sing it". Myles must have done this in nearly every GNR song he's ever done.
I don't know if it's more funny than annoying, or the other way.

Just curious to know if anyone else has used guns music to get thru the best of times and the worst?
i think this is why gnr music has been a mainstay in my life this past 25 years, there’s just a song for every mood I feel.
I play locomotive loud if I’m psyched, don’t cry if I’m sad, pretty much feel it out as I go.
opinions?
Slash once said that his favourite band is the Stones because he can listen to their music no matter what his mood is.
That's a very big factor for me. That's why I never get tired of the Illusions, in contrast to Appetite.
And that's why I don't care about the "high energy rock n' roll" ACDC. Because they're only that. Nothing more.

11 hours ago, RONIN said:The next album (if there is one) will be more disappointing than Chinese Democracy to many because there is insane pressure from critics/fans/history on Axl to go back to basics and do Appetite 2. Slash also has a huge amount of power in GnR affairs now so expect him to push that agenda down further. Couple that with the AC/DC stint for Axl - it seems likely we're getting a trip back to sunset strip era cock rock. And nothing to me could be more boring. Whether fans, critics or revised history cares to admit this - UYI played a huge role in vaulting GNR to mythic status and maintaining their longevity.
Instead of picking up where they left off with UYI 2 and evolving that vision - there's more momentum behind them remaining simply a meat and potatoes hard rock band. I've always felt like a large portion of fans and critics want them to be that AFD band and that they almost resent Axl's ambitions of the band showing their musical versatility and artistic vision. Like Axl the redneck rock outlaw of AFD is more valid and legitimate than Elton/Queen Axl who puts out songs like Estranged and Locomotive. Instead of accepting the evolution, there's this weird backlash towards that in some circles.
Part of what made the original GnR great was the creative tension between the band members. That's why their greatest compositions are on UYI (imho). In conclusion, UYI 2 > every other GnR album.
Although I slightly prefer UYI 1, I agree 100% with all the above. UYIs are far more interesting than Appetite.
And whatever one could say about Axl, if he wasn't at the helm back then, Slash, Duff, Izzy, Matt - I was hoping to join a badass rock band, what's with the piano - Sorum,
would have given us the same things again and again.
Personally, I wouldn't exchange UYI with any number of post-Appetite AFD sounding albums.
Thanks god GNR didn't turn into another ACDC. Even if we had by now 10 albums filled wih Mr. Brownstones.
UYIs have it all. "To your face" rock songs, epic piano songs with amazing guitar solos, songs you can hear when you are happy, songs you can hear when you're sad.
Songs with lyrics in the AFD direction and others with much deeper ones. Vision. Versatility.
The sad thing is that the one who was mainly responsible (and made the others to follow him) for that progress from AFD,
now seems to care to create new music with acdc much more than with GNR.
P.S.
AFD is a legendary album, no doubt, but I believe it's unfare that it overshadows UYI the way it does.
UYI deserved much more recognition than it has got. From its own creators - including Axl - first of all.

Multiple occasions? Please quote just 1 that he said that he will never play a tour with Slash again.
"There's zero possibility of me having anything to do with Slash other than by ambush, and that wouldn't be pretty."
Guess who said that.

Steven has the right to say whatever he wants, whenever he wants.
Izzy has the right to ask whatever amount of money he thinks he deserves.
GNR has the right to weigh each case up and decide "all things considered" which is the best / most viable configuration for the band in the long run.

how old is niven now? is it possible hes just a senile old fuck? plus he was fired by axl so i consider his take on things to be just a tad biased... so i personally question his credibility a little bit
Well Alan Niven hated Axl even before his dismissal from the band. Didn't he use to play with voodoo dolls while wearing black hoods and other shit back then?

M: I felt like I couldn't hear your guitar in the final mix of the "Illusions".
I: Yeah, what happened there? (laughs) They took two years to finish the two records, and at the end I don't even feel like listening to the final product. Not at all! In fact I listened to the records only after the concert at Wembley in August 91, and I freaked out: "Where the hell is my fucking guitar?" It's gone! From there I lost the little interest I had left in the G N' R enterprise. This and the stadium tour!It seems that the assertion that Izzy doesn't like playing in big stadiums is valid, since he cites that as one of the two final factors that made him lose any interest in GNR.

So Dizzy isn't a Guns N' Roses member then?
One would think that even you would agree that everyone that played up until August '91 are Guns N' Roses members.
Yes because who is or is not a member of Guns is decided by a random guy on a forum.

I don't hate CD, in fact I like a few songs or parts of them, but:
- I don't like and cannot get used to the voice Axl used in most songs, no matter how many times I give it a try. That's the biggest problem for me with CD.
- Secondly, I don't really like his songwriting on many of those songs. He has raised the standards much higher with the lyrics in songs like Locomotive, Estranged etc..
- Also, I don't like the whole industrial thing
Slash's absence doesn't bother me that much since it was a given for that record...

I admire that he jumps off from moving cars.

I can't speak for Diesel Daisy, but for me, the rumour is credible due to the host of other clues that go along with it, including the more recent ones of
- Richard's 'tracking' guitar he posted on his IG and the 'special' amp for which he hash tagged GNR
- Melissa and Kat 'relocating' to LA
- All of them being in LA at the same time
- Everything being uncertain where Conspirators are concerned
- Duff not showing up to Walking Papers first gig (album dropped today by the way - it's really good!) and general lack of involvement in promo/press for that
- Jeff Angell saying that they will be having different line ups during the touring of WP album to 'surprise people' i.e. cos Duff is not going to reliably be with them
- Slash being blatantly secretive about his 'new material' he's working on and Nikki and Joe Perry blatantly failing to follow up on that during the interview
- Arlette saying she couldn't say anything when asked about new music, as opposed to just saying, no, there won't be any, or I don't know.
- Axl eating pizza on a Friday night with Beta - it's a sure fire sign. j/k
There are other clues that go further back...
But what about the source of this rumor? Does it have any credibility?
Anyone could make up something like that since there are a few bands fitting more or less the description.
Yes I know there are many clues out there, but on the other hand, this makes it easier to stir up such rumors...

What makes this rumour seem credible to most of you?
I mean, even if it's indeed about Guns, it's not the first time we hear a rumour that the band is planning to release an album...
I would expect @DieselDaisy to say that Guns are never going to release any new music, but you don't seem to rule it out this time
-
I used to like Zeppelin, but not so much anymore...
On the other hand, even though I hate heavy metal, Sabbath is an exception. I'll take Iommi over Jimmy Page as well.

Would a Fortus hater troll make posts such as "Fortus will blow us away on the next album" or "Fortus sounds AWESOME with the gretch!", "Fortus is very important in the sound of the band. Incredible player."?
How about you research the guy a little more before calling people naive? He has plenty posts of praising Fortus without the what you perceive as "ironic" tone aswell, no he really means what he says.
But the reactions he gets are always the same: bashing Fortus.

Yeah..But I don´t buy it! I can see irony in his posts..So probably it´s just a Fortus hater trying to milking even more hate against him..And he´s getting what he wants..just take a look at the reactions..
Yeah, to me that's quite obvious.

They can drop off the songs made with Izzy and Steven too, so no AFD, no half of Lies and UYI. People will still see slash axl with duff, aye?
So that's why they've been practising all those covers. They are going to bury not only Appetite, but half of Lies and UYI as well..

This whole thread is off-topic.

Slash said that he works on new material but nothing more specific.

What the band has is Slash. The band doesn't need someone on par with Bumblefoot or Buckethead because the band has Slash.
When was the last time you heard TWAT on the NITL tour? If it was before Apollo gig then yes, you're right, Slash's take on both Robin's and Bucket's solos were bloody awful. All the CD songs were awful. However, from around about Louisville on the last NA leg, he started to improve on all the CD solos and well before the last show he was nailing every one beautifully. And Axl, judging by his animated reactions each time, knew it. Sorry and Prostitute solos were particular stand outs.
As far as TWAT goes, Slash took 6 attempts to nail Buckethead's (listen to the LA Forum version - it's the best) and he finally nailed Robin's on the very last show. It's funny that Robin's gave him the most trouble. ^^
The TWAT solos are among my top favourites but there is only one lead guitar player GN'R has to have and that is Slash. Even if he couldn't play CD songs very well.

Well, as Slash and Duff have confirmed, "Axl wrote them all".

The only thing in which the studio version lacks is the length, the shredding (which is not always a good thing).
I've been listening to it again and again and can't see why you consider it poorly executed. I find it great. And it screams 'Slash' to me.
