Just been watching Axl singing BR with Elton at Freddies tribute concert.  I have never seen or heard a singer like Axl , he reaches inside of himself and brings out everything he has got and displays for all to see.  You cannot help but feel for this man, a complete stranger, his performances gave a voice to the human condition.  Not surprising he seems to be worn down now.  Was/is he a tortured genious?

I just watched it. Legendary performance. But I dont think Ive even seen all the Guns parts, certainly not the whole thing. Axl isnt even on stage for over half the song and he still owns the performance! His voice is especially melodic and nuanced even in full rasp! Glorious!

During Axls first section of singing, you see a brief look from May, giving Axl 'rock face' as his appreciation is that great :headbang:

Yeah, Axl was a troubled genius back then. Im mean I struggle to call him a genius because my caricatured view of Axl has his inner monologue going "This sounds good. Maybe I should get Queen to be Guns N Roses? Or at least if Slash leaves I'll get May!" And years later that is precisely what Axl did having May play on a few tracks including Catcher and Atlas Shrugged. lol

And as far as the human condition goes - Axls earlier homophobia still followed him at this time, so performing at a Gay mans memorial show at a time when aids was seen as a "gay issue" along with Elton John was a powerful statement of unity, as well as personal growth. (Although I do pickup on a little subtext when John sings to Axl "Nothing really matters to me")

I see the dentist for the adjustment this afternoon.  Karen said I got stitches that have to be removed.  I don't remember any part of that conversation with the nurse.   I'm going to try to cut the opioid out of my medication regimen today.  Both pills say take for pain as needed but warn not waiting until your in pain.  Kind of hard to judge that but I like to save the narc meds for when I'm going to be in serious pain for a long period of time.  I thought this might be one of those times but so far no.  It's not even as bad as a migraine.  No where like getting my wisdom teeth out.  I'm having my friend take me to the dentist.  I can tell by little fuck ups and I'm slow it would be better if someone else drive.  So far, these suit me just fine.  I don't think I'm going to have a problem.

Mike's decided maybe he better keep it.  I was thinking he should because he works in his garage all the time.  He was just on a kick to clean out the house.

We are getting two loads of leaf mulch on Friday if we can get it in there before the rain.  You know how I feel about that stuff!  What was the solution to the mold?

Im glad you can get it taken care of today! I guess removing the stitches comes later though? Im glad you forget so much of it!

Sounds like you aced this dental procedure! Im glad your feeling good about it!

I like that the universe brought you a load of leaf mulch right after your procedure! Enjoy it!

I was doing a blackout grow for mustard micros. i very lightly mist - like one little pump - to set the seeds into soil at the start. On day two when there was no germination I panicked and gave it another spray. I knew it was the wrong move as I did it! And i accidentally did a bigger spray. Since its covered the water has no means of evaporating, making it worse.

So, better watering discipline. But also, the mustard might be slower to start than the arugula. Arugula grows so fast that its also called rocket. So I shouldnt have watered a second time (from the top that is)

Oh culture and the country has a massive impact on why something is popular. Always has done. Hendrix is perhaps the most obvious example- the UK took to him in the way the US never did. There are acts that are way bigger in some countries than others. A lot never even make it outside of their own countries......but are megastars in their home.

It's not condescending, just a simple fact. Has no bearing whatsoever on the quality of music. There is some absolutely excellent music coming out of Africa at the moment, sounds that are way, way out there in terms of experimentalism and creativity and have followings there and are pretty popular, because of the culture and where the people are at. Here in the UK those sorts of sounds wouldn't have an audience.

There are Spanish, Argentinian megastars who are household names in those countries and absolutely obscure elsewhere. There are bands that tour large venues in Europe regularly that return home to America and are playing small venues.....it all depends on so many factors, and a countries culture, mindset, political status, history etc are all definitely a major part of what music the people there gravitate towards.

Yes, but the USA is the cultural hegemon. Their culture is exported and imposed in a way that a country that is not the cultural hegemon couldnt expect to achieve. Hegemony is a one way transaction so those of us within its domain (much of the west) arent given the same access to other cultures for enrichment to the same extent.

So in a sense, to a certain degree, people in completely different cultures could be expected to have some frame of reference to US stadium rock. And further, their mindset and politics and understanding of their own history is expected to be influenced by US cultural hegemony.

I wondered where this topic had gone.

My cats have been having a wonderful time with all the amazon boxes and packing material coming in.  It was like a cardboard jungle for them one day.

My guy would love that too! His favorite activity is sitting inside a box well biting off pieces of it until the box is gone. I have a place I store the boxes over night so his chomping doesnt wake me up. Part of the morning routine is me putting his box down. He comes scurrying in as soon as he hears me even reach for it, and has hopped in it before it even hits the floor most days.

I actually worry about the dyes and glues. So I try to have some limit to it.

I didn't drive either time.  Karen took me.  Always good to take your nurse with you.  She understands what they are talking about.  And I think they tell her more because she is medical.  They told her the bottom denture needs adjusting.  I did not remember that but it's bothering me, comes loose when I trying to eat or talk too much.

It amazes me the kid is later to almost everything personal in her life but when it comes to medical, you can set your clock by her.  She caught the pinball shirt is 100 percent cotton and questioned if I should get a large.  Yes please (and thank you for getting me that shirt).  Hope you get your calendar.  If not, it will be on sale come February.

A white fly showed up in the kitchen.  Quick coffee pot in the microwave or my coffee will get loaded with them.  I'm getting another spray bottle tomorrow and they are dying!  Not like you kill spiders but dead just the same.

Im so dumb - reading back Im not sure why I thought you drove yourself! Sorry! lol And yeah, thats great to have Karen there to get in on the medical talk. When will you get it adjusted? Hows it suiting you today?

    Yay pinball shirt :headbang:

You dont wanna torch them with a creme brule torch?

What is wrong with me?!  Mike asked me if I knew anybody who needed a garage air conditioner.  We could use that in the greenhouse during the summer to teach classes in.  Hope he hasn't gotten rid of it.

That'd be great! Hope he still has it!

Well, was it while you were medicated? Dont beat yourself up!

I lost the micros  To mold. At least I know what went wrong. So feels good to be learning and making progress that was at least. Cuttings and transplants going strong.

Huh? Sorry, but I have no idea what this means?

This strikes me as a “throw pasta at wall” attempt to salvage a point. Which is a tactic that is normally reserved for the slack jawed, true-believer liberal. I think it’s best that way too.

So... why do you need more batteries on Christmas?

We have been years away from a ''climate disaster'' for more than fifty years! This is the longest ''years away'' ever recorded.

And we are in fact seeing those predictions come true. Hopefully you grasp that.

In terms of records, its certainly the highest annual heat around the world on record. We’re meeting many such records.

And now argue these plain facts, because your mind is owned by propaganda...

If people wanted to they could see communism in everything I suppose.

Haha, I see it’s not only the films, but the lazy assumptions that are from the 1980’s

We’re just years away from climate disaster... but at least the ecocide was done in the name of a small handful of billionaires. Smart!

Yes. The first of which made Warner $212.9 million at the US box office of 1984 I believe.

Wait, so in a capitalist marketplace, the establishment can make films about the workers fighting back against capitalist injustices, and the workers will hand over their crumbs for the chance to watch the film? And then also not engage in class war themselves?

And that’s on top of the establishment somehow managing to turn Jesus’ birthday along with a celebration of colonization into the needed profits necessary to prop up many sectors of the market for the entire rest of the year, under this failed system?

Sheesh, all I can say is that rechargeable batteries are a thing. As are solar powered battery chargers.

Also that chick in Gremlins is fucking banging!!

  11. 3 minutes ago, DieselDaisy said:

Probably not the worst film for Chrimbo really, i.e., wholesome 1980s family entertainment. There were a lot of films like this in the '80s - Short Circuit is another. Veering into horror-comedy territory opens you up to Gremlins and Critters,, the former being certifiably ''Christmas''.

I see we’ve moved on from explaining why one needs extra batteries on Christmas haha

Yes, Gremlins 1&2 are top Christmas movies! Incidentally they are also about class war.

Ive now watched the trailer and love the fucking class war! Stick it to those fucking gentrifier's :headbang:

I assume that the space ship from another planet need AA batteries, then? Howd they get here then?! And Christmas?

Connie brought me over soup from the chinese place.  Not hungry but I'll get there.  What kind of food do you get someone after breast cancer?

I had a lack of caffeine headache.  Choice between the uppers and the downers, uppers win every time.  I'm a big girl now with shit to do.  This time I was mostly awake sooner after sedation.  Knew everything going on.  Last time I was in the car and a third of the way home before I was aware of what was going on.  I say mostly because now that I'm reviewing it in my head, I have bits and pieces of what happen.

With coffee I'm definitely feeling better.  Hoping somebody gets me that new GNR pinball t-shirt.  That's a must have.  I'm wait for it to be a gift for Christmas or getting it after the holidays.  Not could be mine, will be mine.

Yay Connie! Chinese soups is my go to after dentistry too :headbang:... That and red ale!

Im glad you are so clear headed. But *Says sternly* next time have someone drive you! I dont even think thats legal here. Dentists here would ensure that you had a drive!

Like you and that GnR pinball shirt, Im pinning for someone to buy me a Star Wars calander.

    Glad you are feeling better!

I'm okay, I think.  Not so weird.  The top is fine but the bottom is questionable.  I think I got the bleeding to mostly stop.  2 pain pills but I'm still numb.  I'm waiting for my next pill and heading back to the couch.  Right now I need coffee!

You made it! Im so happy you’re doing well!

I hope the bottom is good too. Might be hard to tell while frozen and medicated.

 I love what it says about you to be on downer pain killers and therefore wanting coffee - it’s says that you are a do-er. You’re always being productive. But it might not be good to mix uppers and downers? Maybe no coffee? I agree with couch time!! Lol

    Keep packing the bleeding!

Im happy that you’ve got this behind you! Hopefully at least.

Rest up. And no M&Ms till tomorrow!

Mustard micros germinating! All transplants happy. I’m making pizza

  16. When Jimmy Fallon introduces them he says that Guns was backstage "taking requests."

Yet theres evidently a rehearsal vid from the day prior where they practice the medley.

Cheers folks. I know it’s a much coveted thing but it’s bewildering as to why! If it had an unreleased song or something then cool but a rehearsal of a much maligned show??

    Weird!!!

We all want to believe that they sounded better in rehearsal!

You would have loved the walk through the Christmas lights.  So cool.  Nice night too, no breeze, a little nippy.  And the best hot chocolate!

I'll see you tomorrow.  A little later than normal.

Sounds like a glorious walk through the Christmas lights! I need to have hot chocolate!

Take care today. Ill be happy for you when this is all over.

I forgot, did you know red headed people are harder to sedate?  And experience pain differently?  A red head friend told me that tonight.  She gets double the dose at the dentist.  Never knew that and I have red headed friends.

I know that if people drink a lot that theyre harder to sedate. So I think it goes like this in the minds of the Dr,

Red hair = Irish, Scottish = Alcoholic

In and out of the dentist office.   Oh geez, everybody is calling to wish me luck.  Er, I wasn't thinking about it.

Actually was a nice quiet cloudy day.  Kind of like a Sunday.  And then the e-mails started for things to do the rest of the week.  I have zoom fatigue.   I feel a dental excuse coming up.

Forgot to mention, the barrel owl came back last night.  I'm keeping the cats in.

Oh, right! Well, you were kinda thinking about it, Cin. :) I wish you all the best too.

"zoom fatigue" :rofl-lol: *Synonymous with having 2020 fatigue* lol. Id say you could push 1.5 weeks with the dental excuse! :headbang::lol:

You or Mike have a bb gun to fire neat that owl? Let him know to find somewhere else?

Also, you have to brush your teeth extra hard or the dentist will know that youve been eating all those M&Ms

What I don't get is why in fiction (because that's what this guy is engaging in) do alien entities all have to behave like the Federation in Star Trek or they are completely evil and genocidal. Like, why can't they just be like us and be a mixed bag?

Its a good question (ya fucking Trekkie :P).

I suck at psychology, but I know theres the whole 'alien savior' thing. Its prominent in some New Ageism. This dude somewhat made reference to it when he pointed to the claim about Aliens intervening to avert nuclear disaster. So, maybe we collectively feel the need for humanity to be intervened with by higher beings?

The second issue of 'aliens as completely evil' is, for me, perhaps easier to analyze. It may come down to how capitalism tells us that it's nature is in fact our nature. That capitalism is naturally existing -  a clear and unadulterated depiction of humanity. This lie infers that we, at our core, are genocidal and evil. So we might project that imposed identity onto other intelligent life?

    What do you figure?

  20. I mean, I dont want to quote the Mossad's motto like some Stormfront moron, but it seems like best case scenario for this dude is that hes been asked to say such things...

However, the suggestion that humanity doenst yet "understand space" is a fascinating notion. The implication being that we dont currently comprehend facts about space that would make contact possible. But I think I speak for the average human when I say that I dont claim to know all that much about the nature of space to begin with. So why would new info blow my mind?

Also, I feel its my role to state the the "Galactic Federation" is from Star Wars. Me need Queen Amadala like never before!!

I don't know if I'm lucky, because this is not normal, right? I mean, I'm not 16 anymore... most people my age have to work out to stay fit, and I am sitting at home drinking too much and eating crap food, but I still look like I did when I was a skinny 18 year old. I should be huge by now, so I guess my point is... I'm probably really sick!

Oh sorry, missed that! I mean... that could be. I really hope not. Or it could be that you have a really healthy 'biome' / gut flora? Or as you said great metabolism?

Perhaps your cycling is enough to keep you fit?

Please keep drinking too much and eating crap food so that you wont waste away!

Maybe its time to have your Dr examine your poop or something?

I've got the strangest metabolism. I can eat and drink what I want and I don't gain any weight. I'm lazy as it is, but there have been plenty of days since March where I barely even moved all day because I was stuck at home, yet I still don't gain a pound.

    Lucky duck!

Until more recently I had a similar situation. It was difficult to adapt to my big new ass - I dont know how the Kardashians did it!
