If you share with me what you are struggling to understand about the issue of systemic racism, Id be happy to try and help you understand better.

No thanks, I know all about it.  I work very hard and pay taxes to support the welfare system.

Now with all the protests and riots, I'm sure the virus will spread faster now. I see many people not wearing masks nor keeping their distance.

See what I mean about how stupid people can be and how crafty an infection can be. Just infect humans because a lot of them won't do what they should do to stay well and keep others safe.

    It's so sad.

I wonder if Cuomo will still be scratching his head figuring out why the minorities are hit so hard with Corona virus.  "Systemic racism"?

^^^This is text book example of the Motte and Bailey argumentative fallacy.

In Motte and Bailey one first makes indefensible claims. Then, when challenged on them they change their claims to something more defensible. The aim is to preserve the original argument without having to actually defend it.

    So,

You have made the indefensible claim that stay at home orders don't work just above in the thread. And recently in a similar conversation about the pandemic in the US Politics thread you made the indefensible claim that Covid-19 'started in a lab.' So yes, you did suggest that we are being lied to because that is not the official explanation being presented by the authorities, scientists nor the mainstream media. (Link to that claim is below*)

But now that you are being challenged on your indefensible claims you switch arguments and say something more reasonable and defensible like 'Im just questioning things.' But, as is the case with the Motte and Bailey fallacy, you only do this to preserve your original arguments that you cant defend.

Is your larger point that the experts are wrong and you’ve figured it out? Or is your larger point that the authorities are all lying to us for some nefarios purpose?

Given that  you have just compared 4-5 months of COVID-19 deaths to all deaths ever from flu, I can disabuse you of the notion that you’ve outsmarted the experts.

therefore I am left with this question for you: who is it you claim is lying to us about the virus and why do you think that they are lying to us?

    1. I never said I figured it out.  I said the "experts" got it wrong.

    2. I never said anyone is lying.  But I do question everything we're being told.

  5. Lockdowns just delay the inevitable.  No country can stay locked down forever.  I was on board for the first two week order to slow the spread but at this point states need to reopen carefully.

What makes you believe the stay at home measures didn't work? I suppose it's important to clarify what is meant by "worked" obviously many people have still died and continue to die but surely by the vast majority taking the message on board and staying at home it has so far prevented many unnecessary deaths. Which I'd class as a success compared to the alternative.

Where are you getting your numbers?

COVID-19 has killed far more people in the US than the estimated number of people who died of the flu this year:

    https://www.health.com/condition/cold-flu-sinus/how-many-people-die-of-the-flu-every-year

The CFR rate for most flu seasons are almost always below 0.1 percent. It’s estimated they CFR for COVID-19 will come in anywhere from 0.40 to 1.00 percent.

Keep in mind the US has seen far more COVID-19 related deaths in three months with wide ranging social distancing measures than the flu does with zero social distancing measures. Yes, there is a yearly vaccine, but it’s effectiveness is never close to providing blanket immunity nor does even a majority of people actually get a yearly flu shot (fluctuates between 30 to 40 percent).

So again, what are you talking about?

In regards to number of deaths I meant overall not just this year.  But obviously they're still learning more and more every day about the disease and how to treat people. The flu has been around for a long time and we've learned how to fight it through medicine and yearly vaccines.  My point was that the stay at home orders didn't work and if we do get a vaccine through operation warp speed covid-19 should go away.  If it mutates before then the world is fucked.

  8. 1 hour ago, Dazey said:

Because measures were taken to prevent it killing more. I mean you're basically arguing that the steps that were taken to reduce the number of deaths were invalid because they reduced the number of deaths.

There is no vaccine for Covid 19 but there is a flu vaccine yet the flu kills more people than Covid.  Andrew Cuomo acknowledged 66% of those who had Corona virus were staying at home.  So puzzling!

Yes, it is good if it's anti-Trump.  Everything should be anti-Trump.

As to whether charity was their original intention, I have a hard time believing that they would try to make a few thousand dollars and further damage their reputation over a few t-shirts.

Make sure you get yours before they sell out now that everybody knows they're for charity.

I don't even know who this Munchkin fella is.

He's the guy that got money out to Americans and small businesses in record time so we can eat and pay bills to get through the shutdown.  But some people aren't happy that Trump put his name on the checks.  Axl didn't get a check because he makes more than $100,000 a year and isn't married and has no kids to feed.

True but I think the stuff he says on Twitter is fucking retarded for the most part. And he’s being a hypocrite for criticizing Mnuchin about travel when performed a stadium show at the start of the pandemic.

Mnuchin should ask why One in a Million didn't make it on disc 2.  Then One in a Million will trend on twitter and everyone can remember the real Axl not the woke version.

I found out today a woman I work with has tested positive for corona virus. She has a 12 year old daughter. She is staying in her bedroom for 12 days. The doctor gave her medicine for the cough and the pain. I didn't know they had meds for it.

I called my doctor today, the nurse said they don't test for the virus. Have to look online to see where we could get tested if anyone of my family members feel ill.  Not sure if my friend has gone outside much. That's what scares me, if we shelter inside most of the time, how are people getting this virus? Scary shit.

    Stay well.

NY governor Cuomo came out yesterday and said that 66% of cases are people staying home.  I live in NJ, 2nd only to NY in cases.  I think what we're doing here is the complete opposite of what we should be doing as far as this shutdown keeping everyone home.  I'm an essential worker so I'm out in public every day.  Nobody can go to work but nobody is staying home either.   I work outside and I have to wear a mask and faceshield.  I see some people leaving their house 3 to 5 times a day.  People are out all day walking their dog, riding bikes, or jogging and I'd say 1 in 10 people I see has a mask on.  So what I think a major contributor to how so many people are getting the virus is this.  Everyone who leaves their home only has a few places to go because everything is closed.  Food stores, Wal Mart and Home Depot is where everybody is going.  The governor also limited store hours forcing these stores to close early.  So people have fewer places to go creating larger crowds and the hours are limited putting more people in the stores before they close.  It only takes one family member to get it and bring it home to the rest of the family.  How do you keep your family from getting it if you aren't showing symptoms and only have one bathroom to use?  By the time someone finds out they have it it's too late.  I'm not saying I have all the answers but obviously stay at home orders aren't working so well.

No matter who is in office the media is a joke. They twist everything around for their side of the fence. When have you seen Fox News praise a democrat or CNN praise a republican? This all started back when the radio emerged and is a lot worse these days. Do more research on a specific topic before siding with one media source especially when they are biased towards a specific party.

The media is just entertainment at this point in time.

If you flip between Fox News and CNN it's like entering two alternate realities.

Good article on why how and why the response and fallout between Canada and the US have been dramatically different:

    https://www.vox.com/2020/5/4/21242750/coronavirus-covid-19-united-states-canada-trump-trudeau

    https://globalnews.ca/news/6815936/coronavirus-justin-trudeau-andrew-scheer-easter-travel/

Canada isn't perfect either even if Vox wants to paint that picture.  There is so much wrong with that article it's a joke.  The federal government has done more for New York than any other state in the country but Trump is playing political favorites?  Trump was getting ventilators made and building hospitals while Cuomo was signing an executive order sending sick workers and patients back into nursing homes exposing the most vulnerable population to corona.

I, like Axl, live in California..probably about 35 minutes from where he is and I absolutely agree with the point he’s making and actually care more about this than the current lineup of GNR. Our state and local areas shut down early which has made a significant impact. Now we have a bunch of idiots not very far away protesting to go back out and going to beaches etc. Its fucking ridiculous and a slap in the face to everyone who is still staying at home.

So, maybe it’s you who needs to get off your fucking internet soapbox and realize that musicians and other entertainers have the same level of citizenship we do. In reality, it’s the opinion of whiney fanboys and girls like you that no one truly fucking cares about.

Ok tough guy calm down.  I've seen a lot of protesting over the years about a lot of issues.  If people want to protest stay at home orders I'm all for it.  Sorry if that upsets you.  Btw, I know nobody cares about my opinion and that's fine with me.

I saw NY's Gov Cumo today. NYC is still reeling with the virus. The city is sanitizing the subways every night. The patient rates are still going up. It's so damn scary. All those people who traveled and landed in New York's airports had the virus and spread it all around. They should have all been told to stay in their homes for 14 days, but no one knew how dangerous this virus was. Now we all do.

Schools are no officially closed in New York. Schools have been closed in Texas since March spring break week. I think that helped with the kids being home. God knows if they had been in schools when this virus spread and how many kids would have gotten ill.

There's really nothing different to report here or anywhere. The whole world is still combating this virus and so far I don't see any let up.

    Stay safe!

Kids seem to have the most mild cases and many show no symptoms at all.  The concern about schools being open is kids bringing it home to parents and grandparents.  A lot of kids have grandparents living with them.

I certainly don't blame them for the evolution of a disease nor that it became a pandemic.

I certainly do blame them.  How could you not blame them.  They started it and tried to cover it up and as a result became a pandemic.  And they're still not helping the situation by denying access to the lab where it began.  Keep playing devil's advocate though.
