Hehe no of course not, which is why I said that it sucks.

It sucks how they wasted that solo on an album that turned out the way that Chinese Democracy did. I have trouble seeing it as a GN'R album, there are so many rerecorded parts by so many different musicians through the years that it doesn't even qualify as a band recording imho.

I wasn't saying anything about wanting him back in the band either, just saying that I absolutely love his TWAT solo.

Sorry I misunderstood ya there. Agree with ya there.

Which sucks because Bucket's There Was A Time solo pretty much beats everything on AFD.

And no I'm not hating, AFD is one of my favorite albums of all time. I'm just saying that Buckethead created some magic on that song.

Do you listen to music just for guitar solos? Also worth nothing that it has been reported that Axl pieced together a lot of the solos on CD. Totally subjective all this of course. And I'll say it again... wanna listen to Buckethead, go stick on one of his albums! Job sorted. The dude is amazing no doubt but a sense of perspective is needed about him in GNR.

As an aside, I love Tommy Bolin and love Deep Purple. I love the album he did with them, and love some of his live work too. But I realise he doesn't belong in DP. If that comparison makes sense.

I'd love for Bucket to be back in the band. I'd welcome Robin too, if Slash were to depart again.

Relative lack of popularity for both players compared to iconic Slash is not indicative of their abilities. I felt they meshed very well with GN'R during that time back in 2002ish, and certainly have some wonderful contributions in the studio, and on at least one release.

I don't believe I commented on their abilities? But the reality is neither of them has written or performed on an album as iconic as Appetite For Destruction. The other reality is that they mainly performed tracks written by other people whilst also appearing on the least successful album released by the band.

How I hope your fix will be reality!

Do you just want Robin and Buckethead back in the band then? Rather than this horrendous frankenstein mix of eras meshed together to create something few folks would actually be happy with. I'm generally not one for what if history... but GNR would've been a considerably different entity had the band featured these dudes from the offset. The visual of GNR played a lot in their popularity. There's a reason you don't see fuckers walking aroond the street wae upside doon KFC buckets on their noggin, wearing a yellow rain jacket and a white Michael Myres mask!

With only a handful of shows left I don't se what the point of playing Hard Skool would be?

Really? An established band that has done zero press since partially reuniting 5.5 years ago, released 1 album in almost 30 years, and still sells out stadiums. The point is... releasing new music rather than appearing to be just some nostalgia act? Proving they have something to offer?  Seems a little far fetched though!

DJ Ashba - minimal lead guitar played with a drumstick and some posing

Yet another good shout! Add him to the list of fan expectations for appearing on the new GNR song. What key is Hard School in? Perhaps they found a recording of Tracii Guns from the mid-80s playing a chord that appears in the song. I certainly hope so. Hearing Tracii, Slash, Paul, Robin, Bucket, DJ, and Tricky Dicky play together would be a dream. Ron's contributions have been left off this one for some reason.

  7. Personally I'd like a double album re-recorded version of Appetite For Destruction with the Axl, Robin, Paul, Tam, Dizzy and Josh lineup on disc 1, and the current line up on disc 2. Both discs feature Axl's vocals from 1999. Unfortunately I would have to say Chris's subbass contributions will have to be removed from disc 1, with Mel Fae Hell re-recording. Would also expect Axl to personally pick out individual notes from Buckethead's live performances and stich them together for certain solos on certain songs on both discs because that also seems totally feasible, reasonable and just what the fans and critics would like. Of course prior to the release I would expect both discs to be leaked 1.5DB below the final mix with needless intros with weird sounds appearing before all songs removed. Naturally there will be zero promotion for the album but a 78 year tour with the same repetitive set list should kick off approximately 3 years after the album has been released. The fans will lap it up. The critics will hail W Axl Rose a genius. And my Mother's cat will formally announce his candidacy for local member of Parliament.

Yeah, it would seem so. Next summer at the earliest for a new album (assuming there even is one). I guess I can believe it since we’re dealing with Axl, but it’s so disappointing that 5 1/2 years into this reunion and the only fucking new (ish) song is Absurd. All those wasted years and they still don’t have the motivation or artistic integrity to release new music. Just playing the hits tour after overpriced tour like the complete legacy they now are. Sad as hell IMO

This is very fair in my opinion. I struggle to take GNR seriously now to be honest. Axl sounds pretty poor live, the band have broadly played the same set since 2016, and have managed to release 1 single which we all had heard before anyway... and mostly thought was shit!

In the past 7 and a bit years Deep Purple have managed 3 albums and apparently have a fourth good to go soon. They are in their 70s. That Slash has released 2 solo albums since being back in GNR is pretty telling. Axl, in my opinion, has zero credibility as a recording artist and hasn't done for a long time.

  9. "Gee, I wish Buckethead was still in GNR!"

"Oh aye, why that pal? Big into buckets, yellow rain coats, and white masks like?"

"No, I just loved how Axl took apart his solos and reconstructed them in his vision on songs overdubbed with loads of other guitar players."

"Righto but doesn't that mean the song likely sounds fuck all like what Buckethead played on originally?"

    "Aye, but Axl's vision man."

    "Righto ya donkey!"

Yeah CD is an album as "serious" as it gets, it's IMO more of an angry bitter statement/response by Axl to the world, since most of the world had the opinion that he broke up the band and was responsible and an asshole for that. I don't think he intended a song like "Scraped" to be good ear candy, that song was soley on the album because he wanted those lyrics on the album. That's the only explanation for me why a song like that ended up on CD and not others which are much better music.

Yeah I'd agree with most of that. Some of the lyrics on ChiDem are sooooooo cringeworthy they are embarrassing though... e.g. Scraped, This I Love and Riad N' The Bedouins. Imagine being held responsible by the media and general public for splitting one of the biggest bands of the early 90s,  to take 13 years to record an album and churn out some of that guff in response!? I will however back Madagascar, Better, TWAT and CD as decent enough. So it's not all bad. But when it is bad... it is REALLY bad.

    2020

I've heard through many many many unconfirmed sources that are in no way credible (primarily because one was actually a cat called Quentin), that that new GNR album will finally see a formal release for Cornshucker. This features a lead vocal take from Duff from 1988. Chris Vrenna and Josh Freese laid down drum tracks in the late 90s which Frank supplemented last year as well. 😅

No album featuring Scraped, If the World, Riad, Cather in the Rye etc was ever going to be album of the year, let alone 'a work for the ages'.

I think at one point it was intended to be a masterpiece, when he had The Blues, Madagascar, TWAT, Better and a ton of interesting instrumentals and a band of amazing musicians.

By the time the record came out, that had been long abandoned, the exciting instrumentals forgotten, and they just put out what they could paste over his old vocals.

I would agree with most of this, especially the first point.

Absolutely, I feel the same. I think in his mind it really had to be a work for the ages. While the majority would tend to disagree that he has accomplished that, I have to say, from my perspective, he has.

I get what you're saying but it is totally unrealistic. GNR have made sooooooo many bad decisions over the years and Axl in particular really started to take himself too seriously, it wasn't even funny. AFD is definitely a top album and one of the best from the 80s. The Illusions I really enjoy, but they don't tend to be held in the same regard as AFD, and it was downhill from there really. Of course Absurd (with its philosophical line about a pussy full of maggots) will be studied by poetic scholars in centuries to come! 😅🤪
