It's a nonsense isn't it.  A perfectionist wouldn't put 'Scraped' anywhere near a B-Side, let along on the album.

'If the World' was utter garbage.  Then he almost admitted it and said it wasn't supposed to be taken seriously and was a joke song making fun of corny James Bond songs.  It was 100% meant to be taken seriously and I believe he wanted it as a Bond theme.

Scraped is a horror show as released! The intro was not a good way to kick off that song. The backing vocals throughout are borderline dreadful and the lyrics are pure shit! However all that said, I reckon if ya reversed all those points, there would be a decent song there. Guitar solo is cool.

Fuck it, I like If The World! Think it would have been an awesome Bond theme song.

Can't argue with that! CD2 will probably be similar, but to a greater extent, unfortunately.

I really like the idea of a song existing in its creator's head in a very primitive format (i.e. just vocals, lyrics, melodies and a guitar and piano accompaniment), and then other dudes and dudettes coming in and adding their spin based on their interpretation. Problem with ChiDem is that the lyrics and melodies weren't there to start with, making it more difficult to capture consistent contributions.

    2002 lineup please!

    EDIT: With 2006 Axl

Ah yes the legendary band that rocked the VMAs to its very core. A band responsible for multiple platinum albums and sell out tours. A band with possibly the most fucked up image ever known to man when ya think aboot it! Really, really odd looking actually! Obviously taking the piss, and I'm sure you are too.

However, from the bits I have heard of Axl in 2006... oh hell yeah!

All the UYI box will contain is a bunch of shit no one really cares about, as evidenced by the Appetite anniversary box

I for one look forward to the possibility of a Use Your Illusion styled dish cloth to add to my ever growing collection of cotton based kitchen itenary! Throw in a key chain, a whistle, and a pen, I'm basically handing over a kidney for an advanced copy of that bad boy boxed set bonanza!

Atlas Shrugged, Perhaps, Hardschool and State of Grace are easily better than anything the other 80's bands that are still around are releasing nowadays, it's so frustrating.

Oh Jesus, those were the songs I heard... and nothing really got me jumping. I thought there was possibly a bunch of other tracks that were really awesome that I hadn't heard! Obviously totally subjective.

I have seen no evidence of  a new album, when Slash talks about writing music for Alt bridge he sounds really excited and then he adds a line on the end saying...'I HAVE to do something for GNR' with no enthusiasm whatsoeverr.  Says it all really.

Hopefully, Wee Ricky Fortus will do an interview soon and put your mind at ease by confirming that a new album is imminent! Only for it never to arrive but for him to continue rolling this nonsense out annually!

It is a sad state of affairs this. It really is. Nearly the same length of gap between TSI and ChiDem, as ChiDem to now.

I think they could absolutely still turn things around, but it would be mad to claim they hadn't pissed so much up the wall in the last few years.

We're at the stage now where massive, long-term fans aren't even bothering to buy tickets for the band when they come to their own city. It's utterly tragic, when you consider how people felt 4/5 years ago.

Really? I mean back in 2006, when Axl was really regarded as a joke in the music press, he at least sounded very good live and looked physically fit. These days you can't say that. At all. I have friends who are casual GNR fans at best, and when they have seen pics of Axl or even in concert, they all make the same comment about how much he has changed physically. And not necessarily for the better!

The new Myles Kennedy solo record is called "The Ides of March".

I feel like a recognize that title from somewhere, but I can't quite place it... :axl92:

That is such a specific title that it almost has to be on purpose, or am I overthinking things again? :shrugs:

Eh, yeah over thinking big time there! :)

  9. Has the moment passed for GNR now? The expectation level would be huge and it possibly isn't worth it? It is almost 30 years since the Illusions came out and in that time, Axl has managed to release 1 full album of original material... which was not particularly well received and, in my opinion of course, only has a few good songs on it. He's getting on now, his singing style is pretty demanding at best, his performances have diminished considerably, and he's minted... why bother? Personally, I don't see GNR releasing an album again and think this is just a nostalgia act now. There's little evidence to the contrary really. It's not like the band is on fire... the NITL videos really hit home just what it has become.

Hopefully there will be an anniversary release for the Illusions this year.

Of the previously unheard stuff there is easily enough material to have released a rock solid follow up to Chinese Democracy imo. Arguably though the bigger thing to take away from the Locker Leaks was the 2000 mix of Chinese Democracy. Most of the songs sound far superior to what eventually came out in 2008.

The Locker Leaks prove that Chinese Democracy was basically good to go in 2000, and the other material, with a bit more work (and vocals!) would have made a great follow up in 2002/2003. We should have had Axl's Chinese Trilogy by 2006 if things had gone right.

Aaah right gotchya. What was the tracklisting for the 2000 version? I have somewhere a pre-release version of IRS and it shits over the final version mix by a good stretch. Fair to say they just spent years and years tinkering with re-records of the same tracks?

  11. I've heard State of Grace, Perhaps, Hard School and Atlas Shrugged from the leaks. Sadly none of which got me particularly excited to be honest. Thought there was some cool ideas in there (chorus in Hard School, intro in State of Grace, for example), but most of it was fairly bland. Appreciate this is subjective, but are there any hidden gems in amongst it all?

Do you think this combo will stay together until 2025 without new music? :shrugs:

Easy! 1 album in 27 years suggests there ain't much hope. The reunion happened 5 years ago and there hasn't been so much as a single new recording released. This is purely a nostalgia act. And if the NITL videos are anything to judge by, not even a particularly good one. That said I had a great night watching them in MSG in 2017! But the lack or product is ridiculous.

duff sucks because since he came back he only delayed ChDem2  another 30 years

he also sucks because it does not matter he is an employee like the others only that they use his face for advertising

That... is actually not a bad trolling effort!

That being said, I feel the only way they can redeem themselves and make up for the past 30 years is another double-album. Release it the day UYI turns 30.

Bloody hell! I detest the mere concept of the double album! Haha! In my view that is 100% NOT how to go about it in today's market. Short, snappy and to the point is how music is consumed these days. There's a reason why the past 2 AC/DC albums have clocked in at the 40 minute mark! Double albums are a thing of the past.

Come on, it's just a random chord progression, not the intro to SCOM or the Jungle riffs.

I personally think the Better chorus is the weakest part of the song.

I don't disagree with ya, but regardless... it's a key part of the GNR set these days! And unfortunately for me... the band don't seem to want to cover any of my home written masterpieces! Haha!

Never understood why Oh My God didn't take off as a hit .. It's a kickass tune with some menacing vocals and really cool guitar parts ... The hook is great the chorus even better .. I could see it being popular even today with our current state of stale rock music ..

Yep really like it myself. But it is too far removed from the sound GNR was known for  previously. Generally comes back to the "had this been released as an Axl Rose album it would've been better recieved" discussion.

Yes, I can. Because I was around then and experienced the reaction that followed every single time I even mentioned Guns N Roses. To kids at the time, GNR was dad rock and ancient history. There was no way Axl was ever going to reinvent the wheel and tour with Korn or end up having an Aerosmith Get a Grip resurrection with the youth of that era. It just wasn't going to happen.

The only way GNR would have been successful would have been if they'd stayed together in the first place and gone down the Rolling Stones rout and kept releasing classic rock for fans of a certain age (hint: not young).

Aye, you're right there. I remember Oh My God coming out and playing it to the lads at school who were all old GNR fans. Apart from me and one other dude, everybody thought it was dreadful and laughed! To this day, I genuinely still like that song!

For some reason I seem to remember a lot of people commenting on the fact the nu-GNR had 3 guitarists and a big deal being made of it. Comments like: "Axl needed 2 guitarists to replace Slash" and so on. I always couldn't understand the 2 keyboard players when the set 2001 set was mainly AFD!

Also, finally the cornrows really didn't help. At all. My memory from school at the time was that GNR was seen as a total joke and it used to piss me off to fuck! But then again I was supposed to see them two or three in Glasgow in early naughties and it was cancelled on each occassion. By 2003 I had stopped caring and it was only when I came across the leaks online in 2007 that I paid attention again. For a bit. But all my friends had long since checked out.

    It's an awful song.

Opens up with those horrible wails.  Then probably the worst opening lyrics in GNR history, 'But I don't give a fuck about them cause I am crazy!!"

I can't believe they actually presented this as a serious piece of work.

I very much agree with all this. I have never ever liked that song. At all. Those lyrics you quoted are just bloody awful, to me anyway.
