  1. I havnt been keeping myself updated bur is Darcy part of the lineup at all?. I know there was messages between darcy and billy that got alot of media attention. Just wondered if there has been an agreement struck with adding Darcy to the lineup?.

We show up at the studio... who shows up? Matt, Duff and I. That was it. Paul Huge came in with Axl a couple of days later. While we were doing it (recording the song), we had to write down how many bars each section was, because without vocals you don't know where the next change is going to come. But we got it done and the guitar solos on and everything, and then Axl went in to do vocals... and the next thing you know, there's this "answer" guitar going on during my guitar solo! It's Paul Huge! I will probably never forgive Axl for that. But we talked about it. We made a deal that if Paul ever plays on anything, then I should at least be told first, because it really took me off guard. I wasn't there when he did it. Axl likes the song. I haven't listened to it since it was mixed. It's not like it was lousy guitar playing or anything; I think it's how it went down. If people like it, then fine. I haven't gone to see the movie again again because I don't think I could bear it. [Slash, Kerrang, 1995]

I feel sorry for slash, he had to accept  the lineup changing  all axls decisions of course. I could tell by this interview if slash couldnt work with him then he would leave. Considering the last movie soundtrack they did was YCBM  and with the illusions lineup, the movie being a hit and i would say the camaraderie being strong, it was never going to work with huge. I would also like to know how the fuck does it take 3 days to do 1 song?.

Keith Richards is one ic slashd idols which axl told slash to sound like for like with keith  version which made axl and slashs relationship not lasting the distance by this as stage.

This! Well, I guess this means they plan on touring after this, like Fernando said. It can't be only targeted to those Asian dates in November.

I agree. I bet this band has plans for the next 12 months with touring mainly and hopefully an EP to test the waters.

Agree, but we have instrumentals tracks from UYI and TSI recorded in the same DATs, so it means that they started recording TSI songs in the same UYI sessions

Im sure i read on these forums that after the illusions tour slash wanted to do a club/theatre tour and do a short tour of these songs. Pity that never happened.

Well, the tour doesn’t necessarily seem to be wrapping up yet. There’s another leg in the fall/early winter. I could see more legs and dates being added.

The tour, for me, has kept me interested since they’ve been adding just enough every leg. Last leg it was CD songs like Maddy and Prostitue, this leg Slither and Shadow. Once they stop adding stuff here or there it’s on the verge of being boring for me. Axl’s voice is the weakest link for me. Frank also ruins some of the songs for me. But overall it’s a pretty fair tour. It’s not awful but not great either.

Im still predicting another oz tour especially when they are doing asia.

There is a radio interview from 1991 where Axl said that they had about 56 songs and they picked 30 for the UYI albums. But then he added that they picked the best ideas or something like that, so maybe there were sketches/ideas (something similar to the New Work Tune or The Plague from the AFD sessions) and not complete songs, plus West Arkeen songs (Ain't Going Down, Just Another Sunday, Crash Diet) that didn't make it on the albums. On the other hand, Slash has said that they had emptied the vault.

A UYI box set could be extended to the post UYI era until 1996. Probably there are mostly sketches there, but still that would make it a big thing.

Yep damn straight. I seem to remember interviews with duff where he said the double albums was them cleaning the slate so to speak. But 94 and 96 are the gems i really want to know about.

actually, this whole "sessions summary topic" made me thinking about the potential UYI boxset. and I actually think it's not such a huge thing. let me explain.

AFD was a result of 2 years in the work, with many sessions, songwriting, demos. many of the demos are available for years, we have quite a nice picture of the whole process

as opposed to UYI sessions, which seem to have been a HUGE mess, but actually it seems most of the songs (if not ALL of them) were recorded kind of during one session, so NOT through multiple demo sessions like AFD.

what made me thinking like this? it seems most of UYI songs were recorded during summer or autumn 1990 - and it looks most of that happened during one BIG BANG. no demo sessions before that, we only know about Mates Rehearsal 1989, I assume there were multiple events like that one, but no real demo sessions like for example Sound City 1986.

indeed there are probably HUNDREDS of DAT tapes from the mixing process, but mostly of the very same tracks. so that wouldn't make sense to include them on some kind of "Sessions disk".

that makes me thinking that there's little to zero chance we would get similar boxset from the UYI era - I'd say much more "alternate stuff" exists from the ChiDem era, but not UYI.

Also they had what....36 days to lay down the number of tracks which was one or two songs a day and rerecorded same day if the first take was crap. What im saying is that they didnt have much time to fuck around with endless tinkering and arrangements so i doubt theres alot of alternate mixes on some songs.

You Could Be Mine is a classic to me and I love the hell out of it, but im also extremely biased as a Arnie fan under the juxtaposition that it has to do with Terminator 2.

Agree. Always looked forward to seeing the clip being played on tv when it came out. I think if guns release a new song it should be to a movie of this calibur. Even like seeing the movie when its on tv and  knowing when  the song will be coming up.

    No worries!

Remember seeing rose tattoo play at eastern creek in 93. There was a lot of press on the tatts as it was the first time the original lineup  were playing together since they had broken up i think since 84 or 85 so they were getting alot of press which was good because they were a good band. Its good that angry is still flying the flag in memory of some band members that have passed away.

Eddie Trunk discussed this before. He basically said, GNR were a very comfortable large theatre/smaller arena act and a good headliner for a festival.

The thing is that GNR were dead in America, right up until the day Slash and Duff rejoined the band, In europe GNR were still a huge act. Now, they weren't playing to 80000 people but they were doing 2 nights in the o2 (which is about 13-15000 people) they were doing good business in Europe and Asia, in America they were a little soft on sales.

I don't think Axl was forced into this reunion by poor sales. He could easily go out as Axl Rose and still play big arena gigs, with or without the GNR name or Slash or the other classic members (we won't go down that rabbit hole though, thanks very much;)), Axl alone is definitely a draw.

My experience of the Chinese tour

2006 RDS Dublin almost sold out, 18500 capacity, they probably had 15000 maybe a little more or less.

2010 o2 Dublin think it sold out, if not it was very close.

2012 o2 Dublin, think I heard it sold 7500, the drop in sales was because people were still pissed over the 2010 show.

I suppose the question is what was axls motivation for the reunion... He has no interest in releasing cd 2 and 3. Do people belive he could be still doing arenas and stadiums with DJ undrr yhe axl rose name?. I doubt it.

Slash has always been a band player/musician. and tbh in GNR there's a weaker link than Axl and it definitely influences his playing. Frank.

He HAS improved a lot as a guitarrist, and he has released very good music even after GN'R. I'm 100% sure if we see new material in GN'R, serious material he'll deliver. in a live environment i think he needs another drummer to be more dynamic.

Brent fitz would get my vote apart from sorum and of course.

I just see it like CD replaced the mid era Stones. In a way because GNR are a big rock, event album rock band - possibly the route trailblazed by the Stones. They set the tone and bar which industry follows. Even on AFD, GNR were never a straight rock n roll band, there were always elements of big rock bands like Queen or Zepp.

Whether Axl is at the helm or it’s dictated by the industry, GNR’s career is based on 3 major studio albums of similar shape, Slash and Duff were involved in two of them. When they regrouped with Axl it looks a lot like The Stones setting up for the Steel Wheels touring in the 90s after some lower profile albums/activities in the early 80s.

If axl has been recording with acdc i hope the way they record has got axl thinking. I wouldnt bet angus would do anymore than 2 takes of a song let alone a solo.

My guess is record company doing it, and management can’t seriously justify legally opposing the recomp on that. I don’t think band members or management have too much to gain from the box set releases or even the extra cd sales shutting down youtube channels generates. The negative energy generated loses sales as much, if not more. The stigma of napster still sullies my view of metallica.

I never understood why lars took Napster to court. In my view the whole file sharing was no different to when lars and james were taping other bands from tape and circulating them to friends. Which is what we did when we were kids. Except the file sharing is to more people
