  1. my recollections are by 94 it was over. By 94 a mix of bands were making it big mainly either indie acts such as evermore, stp, hole, rage against the machine, presidents of the united states and pantera.even nirvana were on there way out and pearl jam was still flying the grunge flag. This carried into 95 until 96 when Britpop completely exploded.

nu metal started from 97 to 2000. If guns had released an album by 96 I don't know if any fan would have cared. Even Metallica were losing their hardcore fans when load and reload were being released between 94 to 96.  the golden years of bands such as fnm, guns, Metallica even red hot chili peppers was between 91 to 93.

  2. To a huge guns teen fan back then these albums took for fuckin ever to come out. Theres was no internet so you had to rely on magazines and even Geffen didn't know when the albums were due out. Does everyone remember when the illusion albums came out and the band were so paranoid about being taken out of context when doing interviews that the band (axl and slash) would approve or not approve the interview in print before the magazines hit the shelves. That was slashs idea if memory serves.

Seen the nitl show twice, one was an enjoyable show because of the people around me, but Axl was way off the mark, the other was a good show but a mile away from the best performances I'd seen from Axl in video or at concerts I attended from 2006-2012.

How can you critique from watching a video is one of the most popular arguments on here. The phones may not pick up direct feeds from the desk, but they pick up the general house mix and if Axl sounds good or bad it's very clear.

Yes, if you're at the show, sometimes it can be less noticeable with thousands singing along, but it's still there.

As for Slash carrying the tour. He's definitely selling tickets and it's great to see him, but this is not the same player that left all those years ago... He was a great player, now he's a good player who sometimes had great moments... That's not the way you're supposed to develop as a musician. I could hear Slash clearly bending notes out of tune and generally not playing at the level we all remember from him.

Overall it's a gig that's worth seeing, but it's overly bloated in many ways... Could have been great if they cut the fat and have a blistering concise 2hr set, solos, jams and some poor sing choices as well as some performance issues bring the batting average of this tour down. But, one thing is that at least it's live and they only use a handful of payback samples... Compared to other major acts.

First show was a 6/10 (Slane) 2nd show was a 7 maybe 7.5/10 (Madrid) for all the reasons above.

Im terms of slash branching out hes already done the blues ball played on ray charles album. Some rock guitarists just stick to what they know (example angus young) and im certainly not expecting slash to release a jazz guitarist album anytime soon. I think slash is playing the CD songs to keep axl happy until the tour finishes. What slash does next and the musical quality is the 64,000. 00 question.

I am going to the LOUISVILLE gig in a few weeks , Ill give a full honest review of the show . The 2 gigs of this tour I have seen have been amazing , SLASH and his million solos is the reason I started loving this band in 1987 along with AXL being the bad ass he always was with his lyrics , IN 1991 when I first seen "the worlds most dangerous band" Slash played a million solos in concert  and I was in AWE of his playing and no he isnt a good player , he is a virtuoso now,  he is a great player always getting better every year when most players dont , AXL isnt AXL 1991 that is obvious but he still has it , he still brings it , no one can match his 1987-1993 voice not even himself - but he is damn good and more than above average - first show 1991 Lexington10/10, second  show Knoxville 10/10 ,third show 1992  Indianapolis 10/10 ,fouth show Nashville  25 years later ,9/10 fifth show Winston Salem 9/10 -

Listen to the outro solo on SCOM at every gig - that is amazing and virtuoso playing so yea he SLASH is better , I can name every solo for being great just give u a small sample . For anyone that posts on a board and say SLASH has  lost his playing and bends a out of tune note and is just a good player , lmao at you , how millions of people have u played in front of and do u play guitar? because I play guitar  almost every day , I just seen ZAKK WYLDE last weekend and he wore it out for 3 hours with ZAKK SABBATH with long solos that is what the greats do , they play long solo jams , see a pattern?

Zakk needs to really stop playing the pinch harmonics. Hes done them to death since 88.

  5. i would really like to know when and why the music industry thought they could fuck the fan by increasing ticket prices to the price they are now. I routinely see comments on band forums from north american fans who reminince when they saw bands like van halen and maiden in mid 80's in their prime and only paid less than $10.00 for a ticket probably between 3 to 5 bucks and i think those prices were normal. But how the fuck promoters can justify prices being what they are and thats not including VIP pricing. My thoughts are bands wernt getting ripped off back then in terms of pricing  and the economy in some countries hasn't vastly changed. So how did pricing end up the way it has?

  6. The cd album is not for me and ive tried to listen witb an open mind. When the band played in sydney everytime a cd song came on they looked either disappointed or just wanted the band to hurry up and play the next song....i didnt see alot of interest and i was surrounded by fans of all ages. 2 cd songs would be enough considering axl has spent nearly 10 years touring and nuguns have toured aus twice. The fans wanted to either hear appetite or  illusions songs ....if axl hates songs off appetite then throw a bone from the alt setlist....perfect crime maybe. If i was seeing the band again i couldnt pony up the money for the amount of cd songs they are doing.

Have they really released 'quality' stuff that ALSO sold fairly well since 2007? I mean its obviously still more than Guns releases, but I dont really think a lot of people will turn up to a Bon Jovi show (especially a festival) to hear the new album from A-Z. Those people want to hear You Give Love a Bad Name, Someday I'll be Saturday Night, Always, etc. etc.

Not a JBJ fan but I don't why he doesn't get back to that sort of lyrics and music pre 91. Always thought since 95 the band has become to "country rock" and has stayed that way. Unfortunately that sort of music breeds other artists such as keith urban :vomit:

  8. "I'm positive both band and crowd (and Axl!) would benefit from a slightly shorter, more dynamic setlist."

My own comments are I think the band need to get rid of the covers and longish guitar solos (lose the godfather) and compact the setlist to make the remaining shows easier for Axls voice and makes the shows more punchy and to keep Slashs interest. Poor Slash must be completely uninspired at this point, 2 year tour and no major changes to the setlist not good for someone who has released and toured consistently since his solo record in 2010......wonder if he is sick of seeing Meeghan all the time. When Slash toured here is Aus back in 2015 he changed 1 or 2 songs per city to keep things a bit fresh. Even back then i could tell something was on his mind, his playing was flawless but he never spoke to the crowd once when I saw him in Sydney. Back then i suppose was when him and axl were conversing for the first time and was in the beginning stages of legal proceedings for divorcing perla so quite a few things on his mind. After seeing the RIR shows on youtube  I must admit im yearning abit for SKMC again. If this is Axls voice for the remainder of the tour, theres no way any new Guns or guns touring into 2018 is feasible. His voice needs a good rest. Really wish Slash would add "doin fine" to any SKMC shows in the future.

  9. "I think had Axl given in for once and let Slash do his cock rock GnR album, it may have saved the band. But if Slash had requested no changes and to "Just shutup and sing" - well, then it's no wonder that fell apart".  Wasn't this the case?. I remember seeing an interview and I cant remember if it on this site where Axl talks about how slash approached the illusions sessions where Slash is in the studio and axl is doing vocals and slash was wanting axl to sing a certain way and threatening to burn the masters if axl didn't agree. Would liked to have been a fly on the wall during the illusion recordings.

Columbia 92' sounds like a riot to me.

In Venezuela in 92' there was political turmoil on the eve of a military coup.  Various stories indicate that the military and or police, knowing GNRs reputation, feared a riot and forced them on at gun point.  The next day as the band attempted to leave, only half could get out before having people and property detained.  (one story goes that the military chased the plane down the run way).

So then the following show in Columbia had to be postponed and there were other complications.  Due to delays, there is said to be some fights, arrests and torched automobiles. "As the police attempted to disperse the disappointed fans, scuffles broke out, a few people were injured, and some nearby cars and property were damaged before order was restored by the use of tear-gas. Against this background, and with only two-thirds of the sound system operational, GN'R took the stage at 10.30pm with 'Welcome To The Jungle'"

Part of the tale is told here:

    Wednesday, NOVEMBER 25
POLIEDRO, CARACAS, Venezuela. In the absence of a suitable venue, the show is played outside one (!) in a parking lot in front of 45,000. The biggest show ever staged in Venezuela.

    Thursday, NOVEMBER 26
THE 80-PERSON party leaves Venezuela in the evening - just hours before the country was thrown into turmoil by an air-based military coup. In the ensuing chaos, only one of the band's cargo planes is able to take off, leaving over half of their equipment and several crew members stranded.

    Friday, NOVEMBER 27
GN'R ARRIVE in Colombia for two scheduled shows at El Campin Stadium in Bogota. But without so much equipment, these shows are immediately in jeopardy. After touchdown in the early hours of the morning they research ways to either bring in new equipment from North America, or get their incarcerated cargo released from Venezuela. Neither is possible in time to set up for Saturday's show, so Saturday tickets are made valid for Sunday and the two gigs are rolled into one. GN'R originally offered to reschedule and play a second show on Monday, but local promoters believed that those who had travelled long distances would not be able to stay an extra two days.

    Saturday, NOVEMBER 28
WITH MANY fans already camping outside the 60,000 capacity stadium, the wait for gear to arrive from Venezuela ended around 7pm when the first shipment was delivered. As the crew battled to complete the load-in time for the following night's show, a torrential downpour slowed their progress. At 10.15pm, the six tonne stage roof, complete with a lighting rig, crashed to the ground. Hearing the steel buckle, the stagehands had fled and none was hurt. An inspection revealed that the locally supplied structure had been unable to support the additional weight of the rainwater gathered on the roof.

With no time to build another roof, the set was redesigned so that all lights the fall was repositioned on the stage's side walls, with the band having to perform under the sky and exposed to the elements

    Sunday, NOVEMBER 29
THE MASSING crowds were let in early to avoid clashes with the armed police. At lunchtime, a cloudburst damaged more equipment despite the crew's efforts to protect it. As the day went on, tickets were still on sale. The Columbian promoters had been unable to give the band either accurate ticket sales for either of the originally planned gig, or of returns from the canceled Saturday show. As a result, by 10pm, the stadium was full - with hundreds of ticket holders locked out.

As the police attempted to disperse the disappointed fans, scuffles broke out, a few people were injured, and some nearby cars and property were damaged before order was restored by the use of tear-gas. Against this background, and with only two-thirds of the sound system operational, GN'R took the stage at 10.30pm with 'Welcome To The Jungle'. 90 minutes later, Axl's ballad 'November Rain' ironically heralded another cloudburst. With no roof to protect the stage, it and the equipment was beneath half-an-inch of water within minutes.

The band completed the song but Axl pulled a translator on stage to tell the crowd that they would need to take a short brake to dry and make safe all the electrical equipment. 15 minutes later, still in pouring rain, Guns were back on the waterlogged stage finishing the set with 'Don't Cry' and 'Paradise City'. The audience, whose enthusiasm remained undampened by the weather throughout, bid them an ecstatic farewell as the band dashed drenched - and relieved - to the waiting vans

This actually made the nightly news here in Australia. I remember the news lady saying "guns n roses were stranded in south America as part of their current tour while authorities searched the plane for drugs. No drugs were found and the band was then allowed to depart. I thought 2 things, 1. if they did do drugs how much did they pay off the authorities to let them leave and 2. id like to meet the crew member who completely hid all their gear in wherever they could on the plane with little to no warning. The person would have deserved a promotion!!!!

wow slash's look and demeanor are totally unrecognizable there. Had the camera guy not yelled "slash" I probably would've not known it was him.

mustve been a little weird for everyone involved in this album as iirc it was the first record he did after leaving GNR. Everyone there probably wanted to ask him about the breakup and held back.

first?, this was off the album aint life grand which was his second solo album. His first one was its five o'clock somewhere which was released in 95 and at that stage he hadn't left guns.......yet.

The space in the end of the first line is not clear because of the distortion. It looks like one word ("toldanymore") when it's two; I don't think there's a song with a big word like that.

As for the I's, the last letter looks like an I to me.

the 2nd last and last line of the first verse of words looks to be "why" and "with".The strumming slash is doing wouldn't be locomotive, the strumming is to slow to be that song. If the band were doing a new song i thought they would do it at the LA show.....hometown and last show and all.

  13. let's be honest what us fans think would be the logical decision for guns to do which is new album, logic doesn't apply to team carnavale.

that said what they will do is

    last show in November

contracts for slash duff expire at midnight on the last show

dvd released with troubador show or best shows from tour like maiden did with the somewhere back in time dvd.

cd of best shows from tour released with the possibility of 1 new song.

axldc new album. Wonder who will be on bass considering cliff has retired.

acdc new album and tour will take a good 2 years.

skmc new album and tour will take a good 18 months.

guns to reconvene late 2020 at the earliest for final album or final tour before retiring gnr.

    The simple answer is, Yes.

There is demand for a new album. It would drop and people would be talking about it.

However, as the past 4 pages have pointed out, there is a lot of water under the bridge and the "band" don't have time on their side to screw around and waste like they did in the 90s and noughties!

    2 sticking points for me.

    * I wonder how much this has actually been discussed between Axl, Slash & Duff?? Have they had in depth discussion about this actual topic? All we know is at this stage, that Slash & Duff signed contracts to tour. I'm more than sure that Slash had riffs ready to go for new songs, and I'm More than sure Axl has lyrics written. The major decision to make once they do say yeah let's do an album is, do we release leftovers, do we release just what we consider good stuff and write new stuff? The questions go on and on, the problem is, they don't have years to stuff about. Axls voice is deteriorating from his prime years, that's the major issue here and the window of opportunity is probably only 2 or 3 years, then you tour the album and say goodbye.

The second major issue I have as discussed is, do we really want music from this line up? I know that's an old argument, done to death, but it's a burning question if the decision has been made to work on an album after this run of shows (which I'm doubtful on).

There is no valid reason for Adler or Izzy not to be on any new album, they are both able to work. They both would do it (Adler would do it for free, Izzy would if you paid him what he's worth). Strip the line up back. Frank, fortus Melissa are NOT needed, and Axl has paid his dues to them through this NITL tour! The only person possibly needed outside the AFD 5 would be Dizzy and that would be ok by me. 10 songs for an album, stripped back, 5 of the best from the 93-96 sessions, and CD left overs and 4 or 5 new ones.

All of this is shit talk though because it won't happen. The cash is in the bank, and I honestly think they will just tour now.

They will release a best of NITL dvd, some more merch, no interviews. Maybe if you're lucky one day some illusions stuff will leak, but that'll be it.

As much I want new music as much as the next person. This is my 2 cents worth. Any music Axl has done axl does not OWN. All this talk of Axl having enough music for CD2 or 3 , and why doesn't Axl release this music - I think some people are missing the point that all of this music is OWNED by Interscope. As such Interscope will be the ones especially if they have to release and market any music with the names " Guns N rOSES" on the cover will have the final say and have their own demands. Which is basically this - Any future music Axl wants released under the name "Guns n Roses" will have Slash and Duff on x amount of tracks. Period. Interscope damn well know how much this tour is grossing and know that Slash and Duff  = $$$$$. No slash and duff on any recordings will not be given the green light from Interscope. Im sure Interscope were pissed off how much CD sold and maybe pissed the album sales weren't to their liking to recup money back from sales, they aren't going to make the same mistake twice and let Axl call the shots in terms of any future music.
