Come on, man! Becareful with what? You ask me not to be be "as per book", but then you give me a list of what you "think" is the perfect job description for a banda manager? Puft! I'm bringing facts to the table, right or wrong, but fact, you're giving me wishes!

Not that black, not that white, my statement was a overall and very surfaced opinion!

The only thing you forgot to mention in your list is that they are not owners of the brand or the boss of Axl.

You could be all of that included in your list (which maybe they are not, if so they would be perfect humans) and even so they would need to have a GO from Axl.

They are not to blame, i'm sorry.

The other lack of respect to TB among the the fanbase is also around the YT takedowns.

He did indeed look very off at the NBA Finals and much of 2001/2002. It's made even stranger because whatever weirdness there was seemed to be gone by 2006 when he looked as you would expect a 44 year old Axl Rose to look. I remember someone photoshopping 2006 Axl to 1994 HOF Axl and there was hardly a difference, yet in 2000/2001 it was like a different person.

I think this was the no eyebrows photo. I just put it down to maybe a facelift but maybe other things were going on with his health. 🤷‍♂️

The entire south american leg of the tour was plagued by chaos!

They had major problems with the press (they were making things up about the band), they were raided in an hotel in Argentina, and police was searching for drugs! In Venezuela they escape a presidential coup as soon as their plane took off the country (Axl got into a fist fight with reporters in Venezuela - there's a video on Youtube), in Brazil they got in São Paulo and Axl was "quoted" saying in the press that this was the ugliest city he has ever seen, he trew a chair through the hotel balcony and towards the reporters (they had two shows in the city and didnt finish none of them) and in Rio a couple started fighting in the audience and he stopped the show!

Also there is a video of them in Colombia, and someone threw a bottle or something heavy and Axl stopped the concert!

    With was a mess.

Was this also when their plane was told not to leave the runway as authorities wanted to search the plane for drugs?.

I think it's Live Nation that has done most of the work there, and it's not because of TB that they've sold so many tickets.

Yes it has been Live Nation for managing the tour. They even had one of theif staff on the tour with TB, since day1 managing things. I wouldnt blame them considering how much $$$$ they would have invested to make sure TB dont fuck it up.

That tour manager was Angie Warner.

Does everyone remember when Angie won an awsrd and how Fernando posted a shitstorm that she didnt deserve it because the tour was a "team effort".?.

Got to remember it was Axls decision to hire all those unqualified family members in the first place. His to blame for all of this.

    Yep.

The reason why they were hired was because axl didnt trust other managers because he felt their agenda was to initiate a reunion. So now that a reunion has happened whats axls excuse now for not using a proper management team for the band i wonder?.

Hey guys, rarely post here but infrequently read posts. I agree with a lot of the frustrations so thought I'd chuck in my twopence worth! I think GNR is a little bit irrelevant these days. The reunion had high hopes, and I even saw them in NYC,  flying over from Glasgow, which was awesome. But listening to the recent NITL video clips, they are not very good at all. There's no getting away from the fact that Axl has let himself go something hellish the past few years and Slash just seems keen to solo his way through a show. The lack of new material is astonishing, and 15 years minimum between albums is mental. Would love to hear some new kick ass GNR, but I am now resigned to the fact this is no more than a nostalgia show band doing the rounds, rather than a serious outfit. I would still listen if something new did come out, but I can't see it happening. Happy to be proven wrong though.

I think we are all hoping to be proved wrong!.

    For the other forum readers,

Rembering downzeys comment on how he met with team brazil in what 2015?. And TB mention axl was looking to release a new record in 2016 i really dont get it. Why 2016 , almost 10 years past CD?. I dont get axls train of thought......

I guess curiosity might be a better word than hype. But still there was Rolling Stone articles, Axl interviews, Classic Rock called it album of the year based purely on the leaks... there was relative buzz. When I say there was hype, they weren't competing with Kanye or anything like that but they were doing respectable numbers. The US markets were hit or miss though to be fair.

I used to listen to Contraband all the time when it was released and sporadically for years afterwards but I listened to it for the first time in a long time and it just didn't click for me, was kind of a chore to get through.

I consider myself to be a fan of the 87 to 93 era. Was never onboard as a GNR fan during the nuguns years. i was in the VR corner. I ripped CD when it came out but that was due to curiousity as i wanted to hear the songs under the GNR name.

  8. 28 minutes ago, Free Bird said:

They were never completely forgotten. I used to search myself in magazines for GNR news at the time and every once in a while there was an article about them, or just a short note, or a mention. And yes, CD was long awaited but mostly due to the legacy of GNR and the long downtime of any Axl release, I think.

What I dislike the most on Contraband are the 'nu metal' songs like Headspace and Big Mashine. But I really dig the ballads and the more classic rockers like Slither, Sucker Train Blues and Dirty Little Thing.

Interesting i dont get any nu metal vibes from those 2 songs. Love headspace, the guitars sonically sound really good.

You could argue the leaks and hype around CD was (at least partially) the reason they were playing bigger venues in 2006 than they were in 2002, but generally speaking you're right. The hits will always be what puts most fans in the seats. Still, for the most part, they were a successful touring band.

As far as Contraband... when was the last time you actually listened to it in full? I remembered that album as being a lot better than it actually is, last time I listened to it I realized how poorly VR had aged.

To my ears prefer contraband to CD, in terms of the music. Locved contraband when it came out, and still like it.

    Libertad not so much.

When i listen to contraband, i hear a band playing together not the recording mess and overproduced layers of CD. If i listen to CD i wouldnt have a clue which guitarist is on what track without looking looking at the liner notes.

Contraband rocks and has groove, CD doesnt.

I think any time from 99-06 would've been good for releasing CD. The ideal period would've been 00-03. The public were starved for a big rock band like GnR. OMG was a good test for public reception. Catcher would've been a good 2nd single for this purpose in 2000. Release it as a one off but still include it on CD.

It wouldn't be universally loved but it could have easily gone multi-plat; they could have gained a new audience with an album people could actually listen to. It was a big thing in those days just to get boots of this stuff. Just huge opportunities blown to capitalize on the 02 and 06 tours.

They could have gone on creating without so much of the pressure of CD and put together a really nice post 2000 catalog.Instead this band has seemed to be on a 20 year on and off tour with the same set of songs.

Axl is not blameless here. He seemed to have a real reluctance to create and release anything in a timely manner post 94. He was the leader and barely contributed much of anything.

To have a band endlessly work on music without putting on the finishing touches as a singer seems completely backwards to me.

Somehow I don't think his creative process has changed much since. The man is a really interesting singer and lyricist but I'm not expecting a new album any time soon.

Yep i remember an interview in 95, with slash and from his own words in terms of new music,

"I'd love to be on the road right now doing my fifth album or whatever, but the way things are and the way Guns N' Roses has always been - which is that it'll be done when it's done - the most important thing is to do a cool record. And if we have to work that much harder to establish the fan base or whatever, that's going to have to be the way it is. If we were gonna be working on an annual basis - every year: "Here's a record" - and star turning out crap, that would be more disappointing.

Im starting to think this still holds true. Depending where they are with new music. Interview here,

Had CD come out in 2001 as intended things would have been very different. Obviously based on what we now know it would've had a different tracklist. No Scraped, Better or Shacklers. Instead we would have had Atlas and Silkworms and Perhaps I'm guessing.

They probay would've done actual music videos and promoted it. Worked on stuff like Better and Ne and My Elvis over the next year and put out Cd2 in 2002 with more touring. Then bucket would have stayed, probably an other album in 2004 etc. Wonder where we'd be now in 2021. Réunion would have happened still I think.

I think we would have eventually gotten the 2011 to 14 era axl and the reunion would have eventuated. For CD fans they may have gotten a few albums before the reunion.

Your first part I agree with. I feel this was the case until 2016 when Duff and  Slash came back. There was a portion of the press and public that were relentless in not accepting the new GnR. Axl seemed to like and support whoever was in the new band. Most of those guys past and present have nothing but good things to say about Axl.

I just don't think Axl ever fully embraced Nu Guns or ran with it as its own entity. After CD was released the new band seemed to exist to tour and make money. Not unlike the current band honestly.

Axl himself however for personal and business reasons kept the Guns name. He believed that the name originated with him before the other members formed the AFD lineup.

I think things fell apart with the public (and the label itself) wanting the old members back or at the very least Slash.

Apparently the album was rejected at least twice by the label. That must have been crushing for Axl. It's kind of a point of no return. Usually albums never release when this occurs.

See MF Doom who recently passed and his album with his group KMD; Black Bastards. It really jaded him in regards to major labels as I'm sure it did for Axl.

If the Best Buy and Dr. Pepper deals didn't come along Chinese Democracy would probably still be unreleased.

Agree with alot of your points.

Its difficult to know i suppose who is to blame either axl for holding firm and keeping the GNR name anda releasing CD as GNR, or the record company not accepting CD as it was when axl handed the finished album in 99. My personal opinion, the 99 recordings are better than what was released in 08.

I personally think if CD was released, as what was originally recorded, and under a solo name,it would have been big. Catcher and TWAT could have been single number 2 and 3. Chinese , could maybe been the first single, and used to gauge the public/radio response, but i think Catcher and TWAT would have gotten alot of airplay.

Im basing the above comments on the song versions leaked last year.

Your right, by keeping it under the GNR name there would always be comparisons to the old band, and was probably destined to fail and the band never taken seriously by the press. Especially when the album came out 8 years later. Just to late.

Lars said something recently that even when MetallicA itself is done....he will never be done with it as he will the be in curator mode to take care of the legacy. Seeing as MetallicA are my other main band - that’s awesome to hear (but in no way surprised either).

If only GNR and it’s management could do the same. The online community is doing a better job with this! I just can’t get my head around the ‘perfectionism’ which supposedly stops material from being released but performances such as we have seen in some of these Selects don't tie in with that. I do wonder how much the ‘big 3’ even see of these videos.

I often wonder if SMKC did one of these proshots from a recent tour whether slash would post it on his twitter page......but doesnt of one of of the GNR ones.

On a side note, im really looking forward to the 30th annivrrsary of the black album this year. No doubt metallica will do something big for the fans. Im sure theres shitloads of pro-footage of their 91to 93 shows.

This was the official start of me waiting for Axl to takeover the world again. And there were certainly glimpses of when I thought it could be a reality. This show, Rio '01, MSG '02, CD release in '08, 2006/2007/2010 tours, But it really wasnt until probably the end of 2010 when it dawned on me that even though I wanted to see him as the top rock star in the world, he never really gave a shit about whether or not the rest of the world saw him that way. He was just trying to get his music out there and juggle expectations that the bands legacy required as well as whatever he had going on personally through the years. And that will just have to be enough for you as a fan or else you will be severely disappointed.

Do you guys think there was a time [post 2000] where Axl really cared about being in the biggest band in the world again?

I think axl was nervous and sensitive to the critisism of the new lineup. Probably having the band members under the GNR name.

I think if this was done under a solo name, he would never had the doubts and would pushed himself 100%. I think the press would have been more positive. I think just having the band under the GNR name was like an albatross around his neck.

To answer your last paragraph that was in 06.

I posted a few weeks back about GNRs legacy and how it’s not being cared for.....this video (and the choices of much of these Selects) is a perfect example of not thinking/caring about how the band will be perceived. Just a total shitshow and PR disaster really.

Yep, you can see the video selections metallica have been doing, showing videos across the different years. They care more about their legacy than GNR do.

2 hours ago, Gordon Comstock said:

For a band that was already struggling to sell tickets before the pandemic, these videos are probably the worst promotion they could've possibly done. They are dangerously close to Motley Crue meme status at this point.

I see no difference in singjng ability and looks between axl and vince meal at this point.

Money aside, I sometimes wonder if slash thinks to himself was GNR worth coming back to?.

    Yeah he would. Definitely.

Because if it's a hacked up cut and paste job with plug-and-play band members and musical pieces from bygone eras, it'll be released and shrugged off in a week. A giant thud sound will echo through the digital ether and the book of GNR will be slammed closed. And with that awful taste still lingering, people will start to say AFD wasn't even that great.

Because if it's a hacked up cut and paste job with plug-and-play band members

Isnt this how CD was put together?.

They've been a joke for a lot longer than most people on here would like to believe...

Did you really think it wasn't bad? How far have peoples standards fallen that this is acceptable? I read people saying he sounds good on SOYL, and that might be true in the context of the whole video, but even that song doesn't sound objectively good.

Totally agree with your last sentence though. It's almost impressive how they managed to fuck up all the hype and anticipation they had in 2016.

They fucked up the hype because of seeing money in their eyes and doing a second EU tour and a third US tour. They should have done a new album while the iron was hot, as when they were ready to tour, they were touring with a new album and could have negotiated the touring money in their favour even more.

    My thoughts exactly!

Force a reunion of the CD line up 😉

Aint no way duff and slash will walk away from the sweet tour money, neither axl to a degree. But if axl thinks GNR could be making the same tour money with a new CD lineup go for it!.

The comments on the GNR facebook page, if that happens will be priceless.

So how does axl go from getting rid of helium mickey to 06 voice permanatly with 90% rasp.?.

  19. Ive taken some time to listen to the 111 festival selects, and nothing positive to say.

The LA 2017 shows should have been the last, and new album planning beginning of 2018.  That would have saved them doing the EU 18 shows which were never consistantly good.

The 111 festival show i think is onpar with the worst of the EU 18 shows. Why fernando wanted to upload this particular show, instead of any of the 16/early 17 shows, other than to antagonise ill never know.

Uploading this show, shows the band members have no idea or zero care factor about these being uploaded, and these shows are representing the GNR name/brand. 🤭.
