@Sydney Fan I don't think that Bucket wanted to get rid of ALL the old songs in the setlist. He just wanted to shift the focus to the new songs.

👍 from what ive read, and i dont know how true, but it seemed bucket was more insistant on wanting to rely more on the newer songs than old songs, release CD in 06 and completely phase out the old songs from the setlist. But axl seemed to drag his feet.......i wonder why.

Edit- having a look at the setlist of both the hammerstein shows and rock am ring 06 both setlists are heavy for both AFD and illusions material. I dont know how many years, axl could have reduced the setlist over time to even keep maybe 4 of those era songs, for new songs to be t he focus.

The 2014 tour was the highest of expectations and optimism I had for anything of significance to happen. If I recall correctly, that was the year that the tour ended with another Vegas residency. Rumours were rampant, there was talks of Bumblefoot leaving and not enjoying playing the same shit for years. Suddenly we get that out there, Axl pulls out fucking Yesterdays and Prostitute during the Vegas stint. I feel that was a last ditch effort to keep Ron on board.

Also, this one I can't recall for sure, but didn't it come out after the reunion that 2015 was the year Axl was ready for another album before Bumble left and Ashba followed shortly afterwards? I could be wrong in the Ashba part, but I feel something around that time made Axl pivot from "New album let's go" to "K Beta call Slash" and I'd love to know that someday.

Reunion wise, I'm beyond happy I got to see them in 2017. I never thought I'd personally see Slash and Axl share the stage, so that was a dream come true moment for sure. 3 years later, I'm over it until anything new comes out.

Some dates that come to mind for me,

We know CD2 was done by 2010.

In axls rock n roll hall of fame open letter in 2012 he mentioned that he enjoyed the current lineup and that they all got along and he enjoyed the time on stage with them and wanted to keep doing music with that lineup. Hence him not wanting to reunite with the old lineup as part of the RRHOF induction.

In 2013 Axl gives Slash approval to licence to do a new GNR pinball.

    2014, duff tours with Nuguns.

2015 Axl makes the call to slash.

Something happened in 13/14 to start the seeds of the reunion to happen.

    This.

This is a brilliant thread and brought me out of long-term hibernation (also kudos to the poster who welcomed the newbie and told him/her not to doubt their knowledge).

The 2001/2 band were exceptional. I was at Leeds & London in 2002 and that was the time to drop the record. Something happened behind the scenes that destroyed Axl's belief in his vision and things have never been the same since. Watch the Vegas 01 show where he is so proud of the band and getting back on stage again to see what I mean. That band and those new songs were GNR to him, not a reunion.

Whether you love the Appetite/Illusions line-ups or not (and who doesn't), it must be said that at some point between 2001-2006 something happened that made Axl give up on his dream. Because of that, we have what we have right now (and I still travelled to Johannesburg in 2018 to see them and had a great time). I hope they continue to be "active" whatever that is, but this isn't how Axl wanted it to turn out, I am sure of that.

Didnt Bucket want axl to release CD of that year 06 and completely change the setlist to focus on the new songs and get rid of the old songs?.

Axl told Bucket, no to releasing the new album and he still wanted to keep playing the old songs as a way of keeping the old fans to then tranisting to the new stuff.

But this line of thinking is wrong, because i think Axl did want to stop playing the old songs as he felt he could not relate to them anymore.

I think Axl should have stopped playing the new songs in 06, include a press release to tell people that the focus is on new material and not the old. Fans could then judge themselves whether they wanted to embrace the direction of the band.

Something i think happened in 06 where it seemed Axl was to afraid to take one step forward and focus on the complete new lineup.

I was at the Sydney show and that view was pretty universal at the time, both amongst people that went and in the local mags.

Rose Tattoo were awesome that day as well.

Yep, Pearls and Swine i thought were ok. I had their first release on cassette.

It was a hot fuckin day, and i travelled 15 hours on a bus to see the show. Thats each way.

I have always thought the whole day must have been captured on film. Not by new crews but professional production team. It was considered to be one of the biggest tours in oz music history and an event like must have been recorded and filmed....

Wow man thats mad, the wait to buy tickets is hard enough lol. That would have been amazing seeing Axl in his finest form man im envious 😂

You know the funny thing?. When i saw them skid row supported as part of their "slave to the grind" tour. Although gnr show was good and axl running around the stage heaps, the 1 hour slot skid row played for an hour, i personally think skid row upstaged GNR. Skid row seemed like a very hungry band, no lengthy solos just one song after another.

Hopefully the melbourne show goes off without a hitch next year.

I've said this before, but seriously... who is this trash for? How is he profiting off this? Fans of his former band are laughing at him, and I can't imagine him gaining any new "rock fans", and kids won't want to listen to an old man. On top of all of this it is dreadful. I DON'T UNDERSTAND!

But his fake hollywood girlfriend would say "oh baby thats so great"..im sure his twitter and insta follers love it.

Hey man feel exactly the same here staying up midnight tomorrow to secure some Diamond Standing tickets in Melbs. Just a question though, im a fairly short guy so just wondering from Diamond Standing is it easy to see the stage or is it kind of blocked by the premium payers in the pit? Just asking as its my first concert (pitiful for a 20 year old i know) and wanna be able to relish in seeing my fave band ever that i tragically missed seeing in 2017.

Also call it wishful thinking but hopefully we’ll see Hardschool live by that time. Imagine if the American Tour was cancelled and we were the first country to see gnr live since March this year.

It depends on how packed the pit gets and if your unlucky if you have half a dozen people standing directly in front of you. However if you dont have that problem, you"ll be fine as the staging at least in Sydney was very high. I dont see this being a sell out tour, unless the band between now and then released new music.

I personally dont know whether the band can tour europe or US, dependibg how Covid goes,  which may mean Oz shows could be the litmus test for anything new. Glad to hear its your first concert!!!!!. Im sure the wait will be painful.

Mine was back in 93 when i was 18 at Eastern Creek raceway. The Melbourne show of that tour was legendry.

I've grown to more than appreciate the record, I've had this theory--especially after the village sessions leaked--that if Axl released CD as a solo record, and dropped the GN'R name for it, he would've had more control and a green light from the label. I'm not one of those people that thinks it's dumb for a band to continue in that manner (with only a sole original member) but I just think such high expectations don't mix well with wanting to create such an experimental new sound for a band

I completely agree with all of this.

I think he would have been given the promotional dollar and support like snakepit was. Geffen also funded and financially supported the Snakepit tour and covered all promotion.

The release of the album was to little to late. My view, The material that was on the final copy, fails in comparison to how well some of the material that axl handed to the record company in 98/99. CD sounds to layered compared to the 99 material. The 99 material sounds more organic.

If fans prefer the 0 8 material, more power to them. I understand the album was the first GNR record they heard, so theres alot of love for that record.

I bought tickets for Brisbane and Gold Coast shows. Will wait and see how 2021 pans out on whether or not I fly to Sydney or Melbourne for those shows.

Im hanging for the  thursday when the rest will be selling. I want the diamond reserve standing for 245.00 which will get me the same view i had last time when i paid 379 for same diamond tickets in 17.

Unless there is a vaccine rolled out in Jan/feb of next year, im on the fence if those europe and american shows going ahead.

Yes i agree that the band could have released some music during the NITL. Wasnt the material on spaghetti incident recorded during the illusions tour?

Punching him in the nose would get your arrested and probably banned from the arena or future GNR concerts.

I'd tell him how much I've enjoyed the leaks over the past few years - especially Hardschool, Perhaps, State of Grace, and all of the demos.  I'd tell him how all of that and more is freely available on youtube and multiple other sites - and probably thank him for being so supportive of that community as the actual band is reluctant to make money.

    That's what I'd do.

The issue with telling mgt about the leaks and where they are located is that he will organise for a banned member to comb through youtube and flag that content so noone has access to those uploads.

The rest would cause me to rant to him about the bands so called communication  avenue (that is reddit) .

Who or who is in your avatar?.

Me too! It will give me an excuse not to to waste money onto a repetitive, criminally overcharged, half-assed-performed show with no new material, just for the sake of "seeing Guns N' Roses".

As for unpopular Gn'R confessions: I consider November Rain and Sweet Child O' Mine THE absolute lamest Gn'R songs, but then again that's not so uncommon on among the hardcore fans.

Im a hardcore fan and this i agree with. Would be happy to have off future setlists but that aint gonna happen.

In terms of danny vinyards post, i wonder if axl ever thinks about that period and has any "what if" regrets.

Well, I’ve stupidly decided to get VIP Jungle pit tickets, but I don’t have any presale passwords. Anyone care to share these with me for the presale on Monday?

Im very surprised with the prices. Im getting tgecGA diamond tickets which is right in front of the stage for 245.00. The diamond tix i got in 17 were 379.00.

If your VIP tix includes meeting fernando, be sure to give him a punch in the nose and say " the mygnrforum says hi".

So? And the hanger ons have a great life, doing close to nothing, financed by overcharging us. And then we can see on IG what a party their life is, while we pay twice as much for tickets than we used to pay.  That is not something I admire.

When i said the touring crew i meant the real people that make a tour happen,  the sound engineers, lighting people, riggers, roadies etc. Not the touring crew like kat and her black and white photos, and TBs hangeroners. I should have been more specific.

The thing that I struggle with is when is enough enough? These guys have enough money to last several lifetimes, now it’s just pure greed. Nobody lives forever and you can’t take your money to the grave...

Axl is basically ensuring TB and they’re extended family will be financially secure forever, Slash and Duffs families too.

I just don’t understand the mindset

In my view TB dont deserve the money, and its strange that they are the beneficeries of his estate should anything happen.

But i think the band touring and the money they make is not just about them its also about the touring crew which i  the band consider as family. It seems they are the type of band where if the band make money everone thats considered GNR  family everyone gets a slice of the pie. I actually admire them for this type of attitude.  When guns are touring it means the touring crew are constantly getting paid, and i think GNR have used the same crew for a number of years.

It would be better if the band have no interest in an album of at least dropping a new ep and play as part of every new tour.

It reminds me when the band when the illusion tour finished they hired a restaurant in new york and shouted the crew a party.

If they were smart they would advertise it to drive ticket sales.

Who knows they could play that card depending how presale tickets go  which start next thursday. The band seem to surprise us when they tour.

I like to hope 19 year olds aren't listening to bands from the past but have their own bands to get excited about! Kind of sad if they don't. Every generation needs it's own thing that their parents don't like or understand. When I was 19 I'd have been mortified at the prospect of being into the same things my parents were!

Agree, but if 19 year olds are listening to classic rock, then it tells me there are no new rock bands that people are excited about. Once GNR metallica and maiden retire, what rock bands are popular enough to take the mantle?.

And please dont tell me Greta Van Fleet.

There’s nothing in this tour promo that suggests a new GN’R album is coming. The tour promoter has been quoted saying it’s an all new show, but with the old classic songs.

I still think we’ll see the next SMKC album before a new Guns album.

You know i would laugh if SMKC release a new album early next year and tour it in oz before GNRs dates.
