I find it very difficult to read the tea leaves about Axl. And often it seems that for any point, there is a counter point. For instance, Axl said he wasnt prepared, emotionally, to go on the UYI tour. Counter point - he toured for 3 years.

And then you come to find that he was doing therapy on the road and reported to MTV that at some point he'd gotten to a more positive place. Counter point - directly following this newfound emotional stability, he destroyed the band. Largley this was done by trying to force through his vision. Which, given that he had to fight to get Estranged recorded and on a Guns album, is understandable to some degree. Its also understandable that other megalomaniacs arent gonna follow along.

As far as burying Appetite, I would think that 2 sprawling, simultaneous releases (UYI) could be seen as a fair effort towards that end. And I note that CD was to be a trilogy of even more experimental music. Seems like a doubling down? And one can speculate that CD cost him so much money (and loss of revenues from touring releases every few years during that time) that he needed to play the AFD hits during NuGuns in order to get to play to large audiences, to make up all the lost money from trying to bury appetite!

    (My head is spinning! lol)

I hope hes happy and healthy. I mean, they are on a label. And there are finished tracks. Very mysterious to me.

But its not the 3 years of touring were consistant. In other words all onstage ontime, "hangers on" around axl. But they were blowing through alot of money on curfews, parties etc. Axls major expense probably during those times was his house purchase. As slash said in his book if axl wanted to keep his malibu home the band needed to be making more money, hence the 93 shows. Especially when they did the japan and oz in that early year. GNR management were also keeping the band on the road to probably line their pockets to.

Agree with illusions. No other band had released 2 albums on the one day. So it was something new for any band to do, which i also thought was a thankyou, and im sure axl said this in interviews or onstage rants,  to the fans for the illusions taking so long.  The band seemed fan friendly at that stage, that its a shame its no longer the case.

If CD had come out as was in 99/00, whether the band would have released the trilogy of albums....

I really don't get people like you. Why are you even here if you think that GNR songs do not "flow"? If I don't like something, I'm not going to waste my time. My time is extremely valuable now that I'm in my 40s.  Time is the most precious commodity we have. I  totally don't get why you even bother visiting the forum.

I thought the most valuable commodity was information?.

  3. Love the music from 87 to 93

    Never supported nugun lineup

Still wear GNR shirts, illusion related to this day

Saw them in 2017 and after hearing Estranged i thought if i die now ill be happy.

I just dont support or like the current lineup. Get rid of frank and mel.

Richards stupid onstage antics attacking the guitar is something cringy ashba would do.

Axl has turned into the one thing he swore he never wanted the band to be. That is purely on him and no one else.

Im more excited for illusion anniversary as both of those albums were my "go to" back in 91 when i was 16. This will be a closure for me.

Im more excited for the illusion anniversary then for new music.

Will contine to support slashs solo endeavours.

Crazy, right? They had planned on dropping it not long after the fella listened to it and were due to appear on his podcast back then, but with the pandemic, everything got pushed back. Slash's comments, along with everyone else, completely baffle me, however, facts are facts and we do know that they have been at least working on something and the comments that Susan made are the saving grace of it all. Chinese Democracy didn't get the release that the album deserved, I just hope that they get it right this time around.

From a record company perspective im sure it will be done right. I just hope axl this time gets onboard and does interviews for the.album this time around. No doubt slash will.

Not really. Almost every single rock band these days is doing old school sounding shit. We have an endless amount of Led Zeppelin wannabe bands. If GNR went back to basics, I don't think it would sound all that dated and I'm sure it would be great, but it sure as hell wouldn't be anything unique or different.

In fact an industrial record would be much more unique right now, when almost every rock band is trying to sound old school. What ever approach they'll take I'm probably gonna enjoy it so I'm fine with anything. Just saying that an old school approach isn't anything different right now.

The only fad in music i dont want to hear is the whole drop d tuning trend that occured in the late 90s early 00s.

I think he purposely doesn't do any 'epics' in SMKC because he's not interested in them there.

Yep agree. With SMKC its just a straight ahead hard rock album. Nothing more nothing less. The epics stuff purely for guns. Then again the epic stuff we did have with Guns was right for those times. I hadnt heard the village leaks, so im keen to know if the instrumentals are short in length  or long. May give us an idea for the next GNR release..

The thing with Chinese Democracy is that, even 20 years after the songs were written, they still don't sound dated. At all.

That's why I think they should totally bring CD2 songs to the new record. It's a timeless record and so are most of the leaks.

I love CD and I wish we would get a boxset with everything that was ever written. That would close the chapter for me. But at the same time, I think that stripped-down versions of those songs can really kick ass (aka the Hardschool treatment). That intro Duff did sounded waaaay better than the leak intro, and I'm really confident that they can 'GNRize' more of those leaks aswell.

What I don't want, though, is any of that Slash generic crap. He can keep those for SMKC

Im sure axl will know which songs will work. Hell even fall to pieces could have been a GNR song!!. Wou ld have been interesting how that song coukd have worked for GNR.

I have the theory that Axl will return for the album after PWR/UP.

    Possible line-ups would be Angus/Stevie/Axl/Cliff Williams/Phil Rudd or Angus/Stevie/Axl/Mark Evans/Phil Rudd.

    ________

Can you give us your source?

I dontbthink axls vocals could hold up to a 3 hour acdc show.

This is a good point. The ChiDem leftovers were a little too weird and experimental, whereas whatever slash and co are writing now might bee too generic and bland.

its possible that Axl just simply hasn’t really ever liked anything that’s still in the vault (including whatever BBF and DJ might have written for him at one point or another).

I think it depends when the chidem stuff was written.

Slash did an interview in the early 00s where he said he would be completely open to doing an industrial type record if the band agreed with that direction. The band being the still 91 to 93 lineup.

Maybe, slash may have pushed back with doing the real experimental stuff because he knew axl was into whatever the latest musical fad was and thought GNR are not just not an industrial sounding band, and have sounded amaturish.

I personally think axl writing combining piano and rock, like Queen is what he should stick to.

When i listen to some of the songs from what should have been released in 99, some of them have slash written all over it ( the blues, catcher, soad). Which i dont think were experimental just rock/piano and were natural progressions from the illusion songs.

Even though it sucks and I’m definitely on board with the criticism of the lack of material and terrible management like I’ve said here before, there’s still this other point of view we can always take into consideration as well (and then it may not look as grim): as we know, unlike in the old days, things take time in the GNR world – they have ever since the CD era. And whatever they were doing in the downtime of 2018 and mainly 2019, there was also some solo touring going on. They were continually working on something (as they’ve said), but it’s possible they were also taking a break from the behemoth of a tour NITL undeniably is. So when you think about it, it’s not exactly true that “they’ve had four years to make the record”, since most of it was filled with gigs and just life on the road, and the rest might have been them relaxing and being with their families. They have kids now. And so, we can’t really include 2016 and 17 to the record-creating process; as for the two following years, like I said, there might have been some relaxing going on (I’m not excusing them from anything, though), and with 2020, things got halted quite early on, and while I’m not from the US, I know there was a period when people wouldn’t even leave their houses.

So what I’m saying is this: since we’re too close to the whole business, discussing it every day and finding nothing new every day (plus getting aggravated by TB on a monthly basis), we may not see things the same way the musicians do: they’ve only had a few months in 2020 during which anything relevant could have been made. Yes, just several months. Just look at it from a distance, from a certain height.
Again, not excusing them, and yes, they could have created a lot of material already, could have released an EP, update us, release DVDs etc., but if we look at it from this point of view and take Axl’s character/personality into account, we could reach a certain insight that their time perception may differ drastically from that of ours.
Just to toss in another angle of perspective.

Nope dont buy it that especially slash, are just concentrating on family downtime. The guy even during SMKC tours was also writing and recording on the road.

The band may have been touring for 4 years for nitlbbut they are only onstage for 3 hours a show. What do they do backstage, during soundcheck etc?.

I bet both duff and slash have been writing and doing some light recording on tour because we know they have been playing certain material during soundchecks because meeghan was filming but had the recording on mute. So they must be working on some ideas and arrangements.

They are probably just working out ideas during soundcheck but rralised it was more practical to go through all of the material once the tour has finished, and not feel rushed.

Malibu Monica and Axl have mutual friends. That's what she says.

    "Many mutual friends"

I doubt axl has parties every saturday night, the guys a recluse and doesnt go anywhere. You dont see him getting photographed at a cafe in malibu or going for a run on the beach. He has no industry friends, doesnt calaborate with other artists, has no movie executive related friends so im keen to know what sort of "mutual friends" they have.....

I am interested in wondering how much axls place would go for, considering how much he bought it in 92.

I mean, is there anyone who wouldn't? Then again, I suppose that would require some serious quality editing work (like our beloved GNR bootleg community people do), and we can't seriously expect anything even remotely similar to that from TB/F'nandon't, can we...

Some of the shows were professionally filmed, so maybe a 5.1 surround only and video editing to spply more crispness to the film,  and that would be it!.

Im sure the band could be pay @frands to do the editing!.

Nice one mate, I’ve tried to catch a few older bands too over the years. Deep Purple here in Brisbane a few years back was one example, for guys their age they were phenomenal. Gene Simmons & Ace Frehley more recently another one. I think with Australia such a long way away the bands would start to question the time and energy it takes to tour here. So yeah, take the opportunity to see the legends Especially 👍

yeah i missed seeing gene snd ace. I would liked to have seen gene as the setlist covered old KI$$ songs that the band dont play.

The fact is, the bands may whinge about the distance, im sure they are getting compensated well by the promotors to come down here. These bands that have been around for 30 years, and really would not need the money. I doubt gene isnt short of a dollar. For newer bands thats different. Considering how well our economy has been going compared to some overseas countries and how good the AUD has been.

The last big tour i saw was earlier this year was whitesnake and scorpions. Scorpions i so hope they come back!.

Or....you could say it was a very sad of affairs, if young people are out watching the bands of the past rather than any of the bands they could make their own that are out there now, young, hungry and eager. If I was a teenager I'd be fucking appalled at the idea of watching ancient bands at the back of arenas and stadiums! I hope if I ever have kids I won't understand the music they listen to, and they'll think I'm a silly old duffer. As has been the way through youth cultures history. It's one of the reasons GNR ever rose to popularity in the first place. Time has moved on though.

Music absolutely did NOT end with GNR. There's so so many fantastic bands and musicians out there right now, a lot of them not getting the attention they deserve in an industry absolutely obsessed with milking the past and the bulging wallets of those living in it.

The stones and Elton John im sure arnt complaining!.
