Totally agree. Axl may have said it, but actually doing...doubtful. If he were to write his book, automatic best seller. He would have to do a small bit of promotion which he could do on line. Automatic best seller ,top of book list, and with very little promtion by him. I , you, ,and others here have said the same thing.  Izzy buried all that stuff  of 1980s. Lol. He really does not, it seems, want to be hearing that stuff or maybe  have people in his personal life know of that stuff. I think the guy has a a type of PTSD, and maybe for his long life 30 years total sobeirty, maybe separating from hearing ,writing etc about that helps him. For him, he could not do VR for example.  Wise choice.

I personally think axl will. Im sure the book is done as i remember he was thinking of releasing it...something to do with mick wall but chickened out at the 11th hour.

I think axl will release it when GNR is officially done. As a way of telling his side of the story.

U2 were much bigger than Nirvana. Nirvana is huge because of Cobains suicide. Nevermind is a classic album, though. But, had Nirvana lived on the band would have never been bigger than an arena band at best. AIC, STP, and Soundgarden never became arena rock bands. Pearl Jam built a following of their own and Pearl Jam are clearly the biggest band from that era. Nirvana would have broken up. Aside from St. Anger Metallica never lost a step in terms of visibility and selling out arenas and stadiums.

I think kurt would have had issues with nirvana being an arena band because i think he would have gotten annoyed with the bands success. I doubt grohl and krist would have had an issue with it, considering foo fighters are an arena band anyway.

Nirvanqs albums post nevermind were only gettingbat least here in oz a 3 out of 5 review, so it would be interesting if kurt had lived how successful the band would be.

I like soundgarden, AIC and they really deserved the success nirvana had because their music is really good, and i would say much better than the post nevermind material.

Your right about metallica, uf GNR had stayed together it would have been interesting to see how popular they would have stayed.

It can be hard to get people to realize how incredible GNR were because the band truly only had one world tour and it was over. It’s not like Metallica, U2, or RHCP, bands that have years at peaks. GNR was a blink and you’ll miss it type thing.

Hmm metallicas peak, i reckon was from all the way 86 to 91. The black album period from 91 to 93 like GNR was huge for them.

Between 91 to 93 the 3 biggest bands in no particular order were GNR, metallica , nirvana.

I actually really like what Slash does with 'Chinese Democracy'. It's the best out of all the CD songs.

His renditions of 'This I Love 'and 'There Was A Time' & 'Catcher In The Rye' are absolutely dreadful to my ears. I have been extremely disappointed in Slash because of this. I had great expectations and he's shit the bed.

'Better' was a nice surprise, however Axl ruins it with his vocal delivery 99% of the time.

You can add axls crap vocals to TIL. It should be dropped from all future setlists.

I remember seeing meeghans twitter where her and slash went and spent xmas eve st axls. Meeghan thanked beta for the evening. Cant remember if that was 2016 or 17.

They arnt living in each others hip pockets as if its 86, but we know slash has been at axls recording. That at least gives me hope. Plus meeghan not filming with audio certain GNR sounchecks as well.

I just hope the old power plays between axl and slash circa 91 with band and music direction doesnt happen anymore.

The lack of information at the moment feels like 1990. There were rumours the band were working on the followup to AFD but nothing official from the band. At least thats how it was with magazines here in oz. Then in early 91 there was further info the band were working on a followup with no confirmed release date. As a 16 year old where GNR were my band, it was fucking torture.. So i feel something is happening.

Most bands, especially at that level, do not hang out all that often. Look at Angus, he's had no contact at all with Slade since the tour rapped up in 2016 and apparently that's normal procedure.

What we do know is that Axl and Slash have been in the same room (Axl's home studio) and recorded. There are positive signs out there, let's hope we're in for an unexpected load of great new music.

I wonder if its because slade is on a contract and not really a band member if that makes sense.

with every day-month-year losing faith an album will happen.

the guys don't even seem to be hanging out much with one another

like most of us -> they've apparently moved on  (family, projects, relaxing)

still was a wild ride back 1988-1994 with couple moments since

hopefully it happens and we get something/anything soon :headbang:

Got to talk with a very elderly friend. She was feeling chatty and told me all about how shes coping with the pandemic. Dang, the Golden Generation is f'n impressive!

She's basically started a charitable operation to make hats and mitts for disadvantaged school children with her down time. And thats on top of walking at least 4x more than I do daily... with a bad back and a walker, no less.

It rained for all of August so I asked her how she managed and she told me that when it rains she just stands in the pot potty at the community garden, lol. What a badass!! :headbang:

Alot of these oldies were probably born after 1900,  so consider this if you were born in 1900.  I guess im using my country as an example.

In your 14th year, World War I starts and ends when you are 18.

The Australian death toll is over 61,000 from a population of about 4 million. You may have even spent time on the Western Front. Later in that year, a Spanish Flu epidemic hits the planet and runs until you are 20. Worldwide about 50 million people die from it in those two years.

When you are 29, the Great Depression begins. Unemployment in Australia peaked at 32% in 1932 the World GDP drops 27%. That runs until you are 33.

When you turn 39, World War II starts and in that 6 years the Australian death toll is about 40,000 and worldwide it is about 75 million.

Smallpox was epidemic until you were in your 40s, it killed about 300 million during your lifetime.

The Cold War starts when you are 47.

At 50 the Korean War starts, about 340 Australians were killed and over 1,216 wounded in total the death toll was about 5 million.

From your birth, until you are 55 you dealt with the fear of Polio. You experience friends and family contracting polio and being paralysed and/or die. In Australia deaths caused by polio peaked in 1951 with 351 deaths.

These oldies have seen alot of hardship , and im sure irrespective of the countries us forum people are in our countries have been involved in wars especially, England during the blitz in WWII. London getting pounded night after night from the nazi bombers. These oldies just simply sucked it up and got on with it.

Im sure they all have a story to tell.

Probably because he doesn't care about those songs.

    This.

Hes only doing the songs to try and have a positive vibe amongst the band, rather than be straight up negative and say no, not interested. His answers seem to be he has zero care factor about CD.

Out of curiousity when the original solos were recorded was GNR with ex players recording an actual "band" or just treated as studio muscians by axl?.

Having a read of this and what he said about the CD album as another different beast  it comes across to me that slash thinks ofvCD as an axl solo record rather than a traditional GNR sounding record.

Though he was complimentary of BHs playing.

Would liked to know which songs he was constantly playing before rehearsals.  Im sure he would have been playing the illusion albums prior to rehearsals, keen to know how the illusion songs have held up in his mind.!.

Axl required a bit of a push. Axl’s ex-manager Niven always came off as a looney to me, but he got the ball rollin on that tour. He probably knew Axl was gong to procrastinate in starting the tour.

I beleive, and not sure if this is correct,  axl wasnt ready to tour when the band wanted to  due to emotional/mental issues he wanted to sort out first. I guess the band overruled.

Oh. The irony. He was playing exclusively GNR Songs (I should rephrase, the GNR songs the fans wanted to hear plus some new songs he tried to pass off as GNR songs), something Duff and Slash never did. So, no. He does not. He's playing stadiums when he's with Duff and Slash. He doesn't when he's on his own. So, once again. No he does not.

GNR may have been doing arenas in 06 but by 14 were struggling with that and on the vegas residency merry go round. If it wasnt for vegas, they would have been close to being a theatre band. Interesting how the new players were wanting to bring back the classic songs , estranged being one of them rather than anything more off CD.

I think Axl on his own is easily an Arena act. As much as I consider everything from 86 onwards as GNR, from 99-2014 the tickets sold were on the back on Axls pulling power, not the other members of the band. The voice sells tickets, adding a very popular hatted man into the mix and you are back in stadiums! Slash as a personality is more popular, but his ticket selling power is not as good as Axl. Unfortunately we'll never get to see Axl out as a solo artist to test his name value in the market! but I'd guess most promoters would happily book him in the o2, 3arena, forum, MSG. Think the hardcore GNR nuts alone would sell half or more of those places.

    Yep😄

I actually think, if axl had done a solo project released CD as was in 2000, i personally think the critics would have been kind and from the leaks last year, theres 3 radio singles alone on that album, and i feel would have gotten alot of airplay. If Axl had done press, avoided the questions on the old lineup and focused on the new "band" as it was i think it may have been successful. But the other question is, woukd those muscians who played on CD toured, and were able to do effectively a 2 year tour?.

If CD was successful, then release CD2 between 04 and 06, which would have been great competing against VR.

    I guess we"ll never know.

Annual event! Laugh, cry, drink some beer. One of my all time favourite movies! everybody should watch it at least once whether they like metallica or heavy music!

After watching it i can understand why newstead left. But thats another topic.

Was a good movie but still prefer " a year and a half in the life of". The movie showed how supportive QPrime are to the band.

TIL used to be a really good live song, it was basically Axl's 'solo spot' when they first started playing it. But that was a decade ago. There were a few good performances of it during the early NITL shows, but yea it was generally one of the weaker songs.

I don't know how much better this band could actually be though. Yea they could probably get Steven and Izzy for a few shows but even then I don't think it would honestly recapture the 'old vibe'. Fantasy lineup changes aside, Slash and Axl have both changed drastically since their heyday. Even if they did get a better drummer or rhythm guitarist it's still Axl, Slash and Duff who decide how the band should sound.

Fair point on the second paragraph. Maybe sprucing up the setlist would be diiferent every few shows. May make a difference...but if they want to start selling stadiums during 2021 they need to make it worthwhile for fans to attend.

Ok then, gloves off! if you insist😄to quote Conan "you're dead  wrong"🤣joking, but I don't think it's case of me just saying Green is blue. We all love GNR, and for me I grew up with seeing the old band videos and then seeing the new band on the VMAs, it looked completely different but I honestly accepted it (maybe a slight gasp at Finck🤣) from the moment I saw it. I never thought "No Slash, No GNR" and at that point in time Slash was posted on every inch of wall space in my room. Had the CD album done nothing for me, or had the CD band not entertained me live, maybe my opinion would be different now, but the CD band were better than NITL and the album is one of my all time favourites.

Like DTJ80 said, It's like Deep Purple. Obviously those line ups sometimes released multiple albums! but the essence of what he's saying is true! End of the day, the singer holds the cards! that's why when Slash is playing out ta get me with Myles it's grand, nobody would mistake it for gnr though.. but when Axl sings it with or without Slash it sounds like GNR.

    "No Slash, No GNR"

Personally for me, by 96 GNR was axl and slash and pretty much was when izzy left the band, during the illusion era. Though when reading interviews on the band around 96 when slash had one foot out the door, he was the only reason i was still clinging on as fan. When Slash left, to me it was GNR no more.

I chuckle that duff considers himself one of the big3 of the current lineup because i never thought of him as one of the main players either during the AFD lineup or illusions.

From AFD to illusions, and until izzy left the band members in terms of major players would be

Izzy, axl, slash, duff, steven/matt. Once izzy left axl and slash were GNR.

Would the stones still be the stones if it was just mick or the beatles where all members left and it was just paul?
