Noel? Sheesh. I hadn't heard that. What a goon. Ashamed to admit I don't know who Ian Brown is. We will mask, distance and stay in to support their roadies then! Some of the first workers forced off the job by the pandemic, and they'll be some of the last to get back to work. They bring us the shows, keep our favorite artists safe, and track down needed yellow jackets - we owe it to the roadies :headbang:

Yep especially yellow rain coats for certain band members.

Good debate 😂.  An hour ago I’d have said no singles were released apart from promos and I thought I’d check before I posted....and Wikipedia has CD has it as an official single and has chart positions for a dozen countries (I have the 7” you refer to and I’m positive it says promo on it..).

Sorry for the horrid copy and paste...

    Year Single Peak chart positions

    2009 "Street of Dreams" * * * * * * * * *
"–" denotes releases that did not chart. * denotes promotional release; not eligible for international charts

I dont remenber hearing any of the CD songs/singles on Aus radio during this time.

If i was from the record company, i woukd have done a non expensive video for better as a way of gauging interest. The days of GNR spending 1.2 million dollars on a video like they did for NR are over.

Then i would have done a single and vid for SOD then CD as a rockier song and gone all out for TWAT. Using footage or photos from the illusion era days and a few models as well to convey the lyrics. Maybe TWAT as the second single.....

  3. Interesting reading about Slash being supportive of the CD band from this interview in 2000,

Slash lights another cigarette. Its embers shine brightly in the darkening night air.

« I wouldn’t quit what I’m doing now to go back to Guns for any amount of money », he says. « It’s not about the money. »

Is it really Guns N’Roses without him in the band?

    He thinks for a moment.

« I can’t answer that. I just wish the fucker would get the fuckin’ record out so I could see why he took something so cool and systematically, destroyed it. I want to hear where he was headed, and what he was trying to communicate that none of us in the band could relate to. »

Also seems to be more darker than standard superhero fare.

I typically don't care for these films but i enjoyed TDK because that was basically a crime thriller with superhero characters.

I cant remember which of the comics DC or Marvel, tried to bring a darker side out in Batman.......

Bumblefoot can for sure play Bucket's material, from a technical standpoint. Ashba, not so much IMO.

    Yeah i guess so.

I probably think axl had intention of releasing a new album with BH but when BH left that was it. Especially if BH gad already partially or completed material that axl had worked on and recorded.

    Probably yep.

But... why not respect the fans anyway. Release it. Nothing to lose - hardcore fans will lap it up, every day punters won't notice. So nothing lost, everything gained.

We're getting into legacy territory now... what do Guns guys want their future legacy to be? Once you're gone money is meaningless, legacy is everything. They should respect the legacy more.

I suppose being in a band in your mid 20s like the band were on the illusion tour where axl would rant onstage or in interviews where they dont want to be releasing new music for the sake of it irrespective whether the songs are good or shit. They were headstrong on what they didnt want the band to be.  Compared to these guys in their 50s now at whatever stage in life they are, and they probably arnt sure what it is they do want the band to be or represent.

That 'legacy band' label seems to basically mean 'were good in the past, now they're not'. There's no reason whatsoever for GNR to be a legacy band....but they seem to want to be that, for some inexplicable reason. I'm not really alright with them being labelled that as I think they have much more to offer, but as they don't want to offer it or be anything else, it is what it is.

As you say, if it is what they want to be - OK, then release some stuff to cement that role. Instead we get a permanently touring band constantly dangling a carrot of imminent new material as some sort of bait and switch. It's difficult to see how they expect this modus operandi to attract anything other than hostility.

We've been led, from the day CD was released, to believe new material is very close, to the point of insanity.

I think we could say slash and duff would be for new music. I have read interviews with slash where he stated he would like GNR to be an album, tour, album, tour cycle band. But that depends on one other person.

Didn't he say something along the lines of not having to wait as long for the next record. I'd love for someone to get that interview out of him, I can't understand why someone has a record almost or completely done and does not release it when he has a fanbase that are begging for a new release. Maybe he saw projected sales for a follow up to CD and got scared?

Do we know what year that was?.

I think axl said that statement when BH was still in the band?.

Then again i couldnt see axl releasing a CD followup if BH parts were on it, only for BH to leave the band when he did. I doubt BF and ashba could do those parts.

Yeah absolutely. I just don't understand it at all. How are these t-shirts that they continually pump out still even making money? I appreciate that the markup is massive on a shirt, but who is still buying them? Other than the 'why not accessorize your look with an iconic rock shirt' high-street crowd who wouldn't know a GNR tune that wasn't SCOM if it bit them on the arse, who is the market? If I see someone in a GNR shirt these days I can pretty much guarantee by looking at it that now or care nothing about the band....but surely those people have had enough of buying them now? They'll be dumped in secondhand clothing stores left right and centre, surely?

What does that leave? I really don't understand it. I get that making money is the aim, but this revenue stream must be teetering on the edge now, then what? The live revenue stream is similar, as ticket sales are showing. There doesn't seem to be anything beyond these things now. I'm (as other people posting on here are also) an easy mark for this band. I'll buy stuff, instantly. Live albums, demos, unreleased stuff, whatever. What I won't do though is buy anything that isn't music related, just for the sake of it.

It's an absurd situation. Why on earth is my favourite band turning into this?

Unfortunately GNR are now the thing that between 87 and 93 they swore they would never be.

I know people that are interested in hard rock who think that SOYL when they first heard it on the radio was a brand new song. To the band and MGT, This is the majority of the fanbase.

Im more eager for the illusion anniversary stuff that they will do then what iam for new music. Part of that is the current  lineup that i dont like, and whatever songs are on an album we will be wondering and asking whethet it was a nuguns song, which member was on the original rather than the band doing a new album from scratch where those sorts of questions will not be applicable and not comparing to the nuguns lineup.

  10. I must admit i wouldnt have been fussed if christian bale reprised the batman role again.

But i couldnt see how afleck would have made the role any good. Wonder if alfred is in the movie and who plays him....

Ya'll seriously are convincing yourself's that Axl can pull off DON'T DAMN ME now in 2020/2021? LOL he never even attempted it back during the peak of his career .... I know yous heard Dead Horse .... He can't even sing THAT song anymore ...

Well there was slash doing the intro to fast when they first started it, then for some unknown reason they seem to fuck it up in the middle. I think axl comes in tk soon after the solo, and they dont know how to end it before axl does the spoken word stuff at the end. The times they have done it, they just seem out of synch.

Don’t get me wrong - I’d love to hear it. There would need to be changes as you say (although they haven’t been known to amend much to help Axls vocals up to this point). A couple of airings would be great just to hear it - doesn’t need to be a regular play.

    Hugely underrated song.

Underated absolutely!. Love slashs solos in the song and the breakdown after the solo.

Oh, thanks. I must have missed that part of the discussion.

Axl singing DDM last we heard him - Sounding like a junk yard dogging attacking a poodle

But on a serious note, I know Duff has expressed regret for how often he used the chorus effects pedal on his parts on UYI. So possibly if he were working on UYI boxset it could be re-recording his parts without the chorus effect? I dunno. Guns loves re-recording bass parts, just ask Tommy.

Would be quite the play for Guns, the do a top to bottom remix and remaster - even with re-recorded parts in some cases - of UYI. Because the hardcore fan base desires it, generally speaking. Id obviously prefer a new album, but I could be excited about an overhauled UYI for at least a year. Like, maybe even as excited as I would be about a Frank album.

I dont know i think both illusions i would want to keep as is except,

    Izzy more audible.

    Production in line with TSI.

Someone reckoned (and it looked legit on the screen grab) one of the things written was “Don’t Damn....”. It could be related to the UYI boxset I guess?

Cant be to practice for playing live as it would kill Axl trying to sing that 😂.

I really think DDM is completely doable based on,

    1. Its done early in the set while axls voice is fresh. Maybe third track in.

    2. Its slowed down abit. Solos should still be the same speed as the album version.

So Duff and Susan did a video for Ozzy's Boneyard SiriusXM channel on Instagram and she was giving a tour of his studio. He had a whiteboard with some demo ideas and people were asking about it in the comments so he said "I'm always recording demos and stuff. Don't make anything out of anything, I'm a musician, it's what I do."

    Edit- here's the video.

Pity the camera doesnt pan down during susans intro:P

So Universal releases this stuff without even having to ask the band for permission? That sucks, man.

Edit: Then again, maybe we otherwise wouldn't have gotten anything at all in the last 4 years...

I thought the reason for the slash and duff lawsuit was because they didnt like yhe GH being released as it was. They wanted a say in the art work and tracklisting. Like live era.

  17. 23 hours ago, jamillos said:

    True.

Maybe, maybe. Depends on how much Axl steps in or whether he'll just leave everything up to F'nando The Manager of the Decade. However, I still maintain that even if they released some UYI boxset, that wouldn't necessarily have to mean a new album release being postponed by any number of years. Could be out within the same year, why not. People will compare it with everything they've done so far anyway.

I thought UMG is completely managing the whole anniversary?. Thats what i got from Troccolis post ....sounds like UMG isnt getting TB involved in this whatsoever. Which im sure will be for the best.

  18. The fires and smoke im seeing on TV reminds me of the same situation we had in oz along the east coast through january/feb of this year. Seeing all the smoke haze over san fran brings back those memories of our situation.
