I think you probably have to have the memories of the thrill of them in the 1980s/1990s in some ways to really appreciate them. Sure, you can watch videos, look at pictures etc, but it's difficult to describe how much they mattered back then. For myself, and a lot of others here I would imagine, they gave us an identity and a passion. They were absolutely everything you wanted, for a few years back then. They were of the time and captured our young minds, for sure. It's also why we're still here giving a shit really.

If you weren't around then, and didn't experience that, then I think it's pretty natural that that magic isn't there. The excitement of seeing pictures of them in music magazines, of taping things like Paris from the TV and wearing out the video tape, being able to finally hunt down and find a t-shirt and feeling so thrilled to wear it, all that stuff. It was all special....and all of the time.

If I hadn't been around that I'm not sure how I'd feel about the band now. I'd probably view them much as I view something like The Who to be honest - with detached indifference and distance, but a general view that they had a few good tunes back in the day.

So you've got all that......but with this agonizing thing just under the surface that you KNOW they have things you;d love to hear gathering dust and that they have so much potential to bring you something you'll enjoy at a different stage in your life but won't release or do it.

    It's fucking mental really.

This was all me when i first heard them in 88 when i was 13 up until my early 20s.

I felt there was a band that represented "me". The poster is right, its hard to describe what it meant to a fan from 87 to 93, and reading interviews after about the illusion followups.

There was no youtube or any social media. When joining the bands fan club, and buying merch, was filling out a form and posting overseas and god knows how long it would take to get a response.. Going to newsagents and spending hours reading interviews in different magazines. It was a different time and the band were just larger than life.

With social media and information at people fingertips, its removed the romantacism of how we look at bands and artists.

Yeah man, I was pleasantly surprised with the fan youtube vids when they palyed it.  I thought it was pretty good for this lineup with the potential to get even better with practice..  On the vocal effects, they definately didn't get it right! lol What the hell was that? They made him sound worse lol.. Who the hell is mixing this shit???  Just pump up the crowd noise or something...

Regarding tge crowd noise is this from the show where the original fan video that was captured, had an annoying screaming chick down the front?.

I was purely speaking about the alleged CD II that was supposed to happen some time later after CD. I don't really associate that thing with whatever the upcoming record will be. And yes, I absolutely don't doubt we'll see a new album from the reunited band, and I don't think it will be just revamped CD leftovers (aka CD II) either, or at least I hope not.

People seem to love extremes. According to some, we're either getting new material regularly, or we're currently not getting anything, which must inevitably mean there's nothing available and nothing planned. I don't subsrcibe to this POV; I belive we're getting some stuff sooner or later, but unfortunately, we've been stuck with a troublesome combination of perfectionism, uneven distribution of power in the band, and terrible management - which also frustrates fans and makes one think they couldn't ever come up with the kind of promo AC/DC are doing right now (even though it's an easy thing to do). Again, we'll see what happens, and I still have hope they'll manage somehow when the time comes. Unlike others, I don't believe it's all Axl solely at the helm and the rest just sitting there quietly. Axl would be fucked without Slash, and Slash can make money (albeit less) without GNR. He's almost as powerful of an element in the current band as Axl IMO.

    Edit:

The trouble with these fuckers is that they never update us on their work, and they are old school, thinking keeping everything under the lid is cool. May have been back in 2002, but no, not any longer. And in combination with everything else, we’re in for a tough path.

I personally think the hush hush is mostly driven by axl.

When slash does a new SMKC release he promotes alot on twitter and he has a good promotional vehicle. Plus he has meeghan communicate to fans what sort of product is in the works.

Im sure slash would be happy during any press interviews to really say they are working on material and give his thoughts. How many songs on the album, album art work, promotional plans etc.But i personally think the whole quietness is from Axl and i guess the band have to respect his wishes. I really dont know why axl cant be open about the new material or plans the band have. Im sure he has a reason we just dont know what that is. I also feel its axl as to why we havnt got a NITL dvd.

The Eagles are one of the few groups I’d wish I’d seen live. I had a big list of bands I’ve wanted to see in my life, and most of them I’ve now seen live, of the big acts that is. Sadly they’re all dying out, or too old to tour down here.

Yep i really wanted go see them as a bucket list thing. Plus i do like their music. So when i heard they would be touring in 2019 i ponied up the money to see them. When don henley said they wont be touring here again i thought "glad ive seen them". So thats one off the bucket list.

With all of the classic rock era bands its see them while you can because there will come atime we no longer will.

Im secretly hoping Poison eventually tour down here.

Living in Australia is motivation for me to see GnR, and many other bands, each time they are out here because I always think this could be the last time. And to be fair and honest, Axl and GnR have been awesome each time I have seen them play here over the past 27 years 🤟🏼

Reminds me when i saw the eagles early 2019. Don henley told the crowd they wont be doing anymore overseas  touring like Oz anymore, so glad i saw them off my bucket list.

I was a massive Van Hagar fan for years, and actually preferred it to the DLR era. F.U.C.K. is a fantastic hard rock album, as is Balance. And I was gutted we never got a follow up to that album, and now we never will.

But, the reunion album with DLR, A Different Kind of Truth, is fantastic, and way better than it deserved to be for a band so late into their career.
It was that album that made go back and rediscover the early DLR albums, and thus I became a massive fan of those too.

Like others have said here, there will never be another EVH, a true innovator of the instrument. And the world is a sadder place without him here.

    #fuckcancer
    #fuck2020

I have no idea when they toured oz they only did the 1 show. A festival of all things . They woukd have made bank doing a show in each state, and would have done an arena show for sure.

  7. I subscribe to the ACDC store and they all ready have merch ready to send when the album drops on the 13/11 as part of pre order. I think tge pomotion for this album will be huge, so i hope they have a lot of success with tge album considering how shit 2020 has been.

They could always do what Acdc is doing now and releasing a album in November then touring off it some point next year.

A album doesnt need to be released exactly the same time as the start of a tour.

They are just lazy plain and simple.  Correction Axl is just lazy.

Slash, duff and even dizzy find ways to record and release stuff.

Im expecting an SMKC album dropped before gnr drop new music.

Yeah a new design would be great, and it wouldn't be hard to find someone to do it.

Right? It's like he enjoys messing with the fans.

Thats what it seems like.....why does he bother logging into reddit?. To ask questions with the fans?. The fans want new material and the illusions anniversary. What is their to communicate with fans about?.I dont know from reading what othwr band managers communicate with fans on reddit.......

"Exclusive Original Instrumentation and Sound Effect Recordings performed by Slash, Duff McKagan, and Richard Fortus"

    And probably a drum machine?

Well at least with a drum machine, the band dont have to tell coach in what tempo to play the music to. Besides they woukd use it as last piece of a song anyway.

The Duff thing was in 2010, and then it was very beginning of 2014 (like January) when it was announced that Duff would fill  in for Tommy on the South America tour that year.

BTW, not sure if this has already been discussed here, but on reddit someone told fernando “we want those 18 full shows you sent to the pinball company” and he responded with “yeah, I’m sure you do.” Lol what a cocktease!

in all seriousness, my guess is that the pinball team was only sent video, and not audio. Perhaps none of the audio has ever been mixed, and that’s why the selects always take so long. Also, I get why the band may be hesitant to release a full show to the public. All of the NITL shows were pretty much the same, so they really only have one shot to “get it right,” when it comes to releasing a Blu-ray or live album. Hopefully it still happens this year tho, so that next year can be focused solely on the UYI anniversary (I’ve already given up on the prospect of a new album).

Why does nando log into Reddit only to tell fans half bullshitted answers and just mock them?. What other band manager logs into reddit to communicate with fans?. What an arseclown. Sometimes i wonder why i buy gnr merch when arseclowns like this get my money.

Slash pretty much just wears t-shirt and jeans really, so it seems mad to me they'd take a designer on tour. I always just assumed they wore whatever they liked- there never seemed a thing flashy going on, just a selection of fairly casual clothing!

Definitely interested to hear more on this subject as it's a totally alien world to me!

Im sure its only axl who has a designer/stylist on tour. Everyone else in the band wears their own stuff.

So, if new music and pleasing fans a second to distant third in regards to the business......what's making you think things have changed?

How do you mean 'help them with their stage and everyday wear'? They have stylists for the clothes they wear onstage and in their personal life sort of thing? If so, that's quite a revelation to me really. I always assumed they just wore whatever they were comfortable in onstage and everyday!

I do remember  some of the shirts axl was wearing on stage was from certain designers he had on the tour. I think that was for the shirts, jeans and the table cloth he used to wear around his waist. Jewellry i think to.

But the cowboy boots i thought were definetly his choice.

I disagree. I think it's about time they act like a real and current band and highlight current members vs casting them in shadows. I am over the nostalgia tour. Give us new music with current lineup.

I think using the iconic cross from AFD is poor taste. Im sure they could use some other design to promote the current lineup without using past designs. By doing a new design with the new members, it promotes a new phase of tge band.

Interesting that Slash began working on this before the reunion. And it turned out being a NITL theme!

I wonder if working on this, interacting with Axls people, helped or played a factor in the reunion?

When i saw the post about slash doibg a GNR pin in 2013 he woukd have needed duff and axls people to sign off on this. As a guess if slash and axl hadnt had a cordial relationship axl would have straight up said no. But im wondering if there was some sort of ice breaking arpund that time.

If slash and axl still hadnt had a personal relationship, and slash most likely would have been rejected from licencing the GNR name for the pinball i doubt slash would have pursued this.......

Yeah, those "last hurra" rumours already exists since Ballbreaker 😂 The band will die with Angus, as Stevie once said.

I woukd have dismissed them tgen, and wouldnt taken it so seriously, but with macolm gone i dont know.....

Then again they may habe enough material from the previous sessions for another album or  two after this one. Could be Angus's triology!.

I have a good feeling about this record.

I do to. This will more than likely be there last hurrah. Wonder if they will announce that if true, so i hope if it is their last hurrah the record will be a success.
