State of Grace and Perhaps absolutely should've replaced Scraped and Shackler's.

Then again... the Village demos of Riad, CD and CITR all sound really good, while the album versions of those songs are a mess. I'm scared to think of how many unnecessary layers got added to State Of Grace...

Very True. SOG and Hard School should have replaced Riad and scraped. I wished they never would have changed catcher. The village version is so much better.

I like the intro on the demo but it's too long. Chinese Democracy has the same issue, and luckily the NITL line-up cut it down to the 3.5 minute rocker that it's supposed to be. The new intro to Hardschool sounds a lot more 'classic Guns' IMO. I'm curious to hear how Frank sounds on the studio version.

I think Chinese Democracy could have had Atlas on it if not for all the super long intros. The one on Riad is so dumb just like the song Riad. I still 12 years later cannot believe Riad and Scraped made the final album. They are both such garbage tracks.

I couldn't find the lyrics that were posted months ago on gnfnr, but after listening to it again here's my attempt at the lyrics in the 2nd half:

When did you think you would tell me
How long you think I can wait (oh no, I just...)
I thought I never said I was sorry
Now don't you count on your faith now, you'll never learn
The storm is comin' to get ya, oh
    I sense a shivering doom
You thought you had it, yea
You thought you had it figured out
    But you don't even care

    My love... killin' me
You've fallen from your grace with me
    Oh, my love, ah
    I asked for (?) I believe in
    'Cause now, more than ever
    I still remember,
    Your name...

Nice! It’s always been clear to me that he is singing clearly defined lyrics. I never thought they were scratch vocals.

There’s also the idea that Hard School has leaked. IF it’s the lead single reworked it could help bury that having happened. Yeah for us it sucks in ways for a single to be a song we have known. But for a great many it’s new to them. If a album is really in the works for release and they are using old material. It would make sense to lead with leaked material. Especially when a good majority have looked at the song as hit single material. Then they can keep the veil over anything that’s unheard currently by all. No sense spoiling the fraction of an album that’s unknown. Leave a little mystery.

To add to your point maybe Hard School was always going to be the lead single to the follow up to Chinese and the fact that it leaked did not change that plan. Going back to 2006 when DJ Raz got a copy of that track management completely freaked out and demanded it be returned immediately. They also bribed DJ Raz with backstage access to Hammerstein and then reneged on the deal once they got the copy of Hard School back in their possession. It’s a catchy rocker that’s built for radio (which doesn’t matter anymore) and it has a very classic guns feel to it. I think that people who are expecting a lot of newly written material on the next guns release are going to be disappointed. I would expect a lot of reworked material from the Chinese era which will probably be awesome.

Yeah, Bercy was 13th though L'Arc technically ended up being the 15th when they finally hit the stage at 1am :P I had a flight to Geneva just a few hours later. I remember I spent only about £80 for London -> Paris -> Geneva -> London flights and was couchsurfing so I didn't pay anything for accomodation. Tickets were only about £40-50, I spent so much less on going to gigs in 2010 than I would in 2020 where I'd have to spend £90+ just for a concert ticket :/

That’s what I thought. I caught my flight home the morning after Bercy. Did you miss train after the show? The showed ended at like 1150 and we were strolling to the train start and a bunch of people came running past us. And my wife was like why are all these people running? We found out 2 mins later when we just barely missed the last train. We ended up walking around for over an hour before we finally found a cab.

I was on MyGNRForum the night of the show while in Paris, because I'd flown there for the Bercy show (Bercy was my first GNR gig). I remember thinking, "Wow, wish I could go", and then thinking, "Well, guess I could go to the club and try my luck".

Got there 9pm, tried to get in with a couple of different groups who had friends who couldn't go for various reasons, kept getting turned away by a bouncer. Midnight and a couple of guys approached me and some other fans and said they couldn't be bothered waiting any more and if we wanted their wristbands. They only wanted 10 or 15 euros for them, which I couldn't believe and handed over the money in a heartbeat. Put the wristband on, the bouncer had changed to a cooler dude, and I got in :)

I remember seeing Beta almost as soon as I walked in and instinctively said "Hi Beta!" and she waved back and smiled awkwardly at the stranger who had said hello to her :P

The band turned up at 1am. Axl said "I would've got here sooner but... <rubbing his head to imply a hangover from partying the night before> that just wasn't possible"

Whole thing was surreal. Hung outside the club with fans after the show to get Axl's autograph finally at 5:30am.

L’ARC was the day after Bercy correct? Because I was in Paris for the Bercy show and caught a flight the next morning to go home. And I remember being upset I couldn’t go to L’ARC. Do I have the timeline right?

Out of curiosity, I looked at the tickets for the Seattle show today. There's still plenty of seats left in every section.

I got a ticket to see the Rolling Stones in Vancouver instead. The ticket was about $70 (or $55 USD) and I'll be way at the back, but it'll be fun, I've never seen the Stones before. :D

They are definitely worth seeing. They put on a great show

  8. This why you need a real management team ( see Azoff, Irving) They get bands the right kind of deals that make sense for all parties involved so shit can be released. It’s not a coincidence that he was able to structure a deal to get CD out where everyone got paid. And he wanted Slash and Duff back in 2009 so everyone could get paid crazy money for a reunion tour. This is what big time management is for.

Im actually thinking of skipping this leg, I do wanna see it & there's a show near me (Seattle) but i think it's downright rediculous that they've been at this for almost 4 years now and they haven't played a single show in my hometown (Portland, Or) Guns in general hasn't played a show here since 2006.

That is odd. Portland is a really big market to just skip altogether.

State Of Grace has the most potential to be a great song, it would be really interesting to hear how it's changed over the years. But in the form we've heard the songs, Perhaps feels the most 'finished' and also has a very UYI-meets-CD vibe to it.

Love the piano breakdown after the coda so much on perhaps. And the Brian May guitar work. State of Grace is a monster song. I’m so curious to know if it’s been expanded or if it’s still 4 min.

  11. Is anyone else really surprised that GNR can sell another entire US stadium run solo?  It made sense in 2016 because it had been so long since Axl, Slash, and Duff had performed together. But many of these markets had already been hit in the first stadium run and arena run not that long ago. Even if they announce a new album (God willing) I find it a little perplexing?

In order from favourite to least favourite:

    1. Perhaps
    2. State Of Grace
    3. Hardschool
    4. Atlas Shrugged (RM #1)
    5. Eye On You
    6. Silkworms

Nothing and Quick Song don't really count IMO, and the instrumentals were cool to hear once or twice but I haven't listened to many of them since they initially leaked.

Flip Perhaps and SOG and that would be my list. Agreed about nothing and quicksong

  13. Why do people get their hopes up that this will be when it all changes. New songs, new sets, new stage set up. Wow they are playing the slowed down version of your crazy (which actually is fucking awesome but still). Nothing is changing. Same set. 4 covers that will eat up time that they could be playing songs that people actually want to hear at a Guns N’ Roses concert- Guns N’ Roses songs. It’s so easy to start. Paradise City to end. A bloated 14 minute version of Rocket Queen and KOHD. No new single. Axl will not be in shape. Slash will be excellent as always. Same shit, Different year. The road goes on forever but the party never ends.
