I'm not a Judas Priest expert, but I don't think we can compare Axl to any other singer. A lot of Guns songs are impossible to sing. Only Axl can sing them. But I too always think of Steven Tyler and wish Axl was still rocking Guns like Steven rocks Aerosmith. I guess it's just not the same exact style & voice (without trying to make excuses for Axl).

I had a band over 10 years ago, we had a lot of auditions. I'll always remember that guy who told me it was easy to imitate Axl's voice, that Axl wasn't a real singer and he was, that he just had to force his voice...

The audition with him was a complete disaster. He could sing a lot of stuff (from other bands, and did a great job at it), but not Nightrain for example. It was terrible. Needless to say we didn't hire him.

We went for a girl, because only women can somehow do an "okay" rendition of some Guns songs. It's not genius, I hate that we had to lower our exceptations and hire a girl, but that's the only way really.

I've heard some guys cover Guns on YouTube, it's never amazing. Girls do a better job at it, but even then, I don't like it.

I think Axl's voice is mostly shot, or he would have at least redone the vocals for Silkworms/Absurd. And judging from the recent shows... he clearly can't sing the higher parts. He still does a great job on Chinese Democracy (the song) and It's so easy, songs that only require a lower register. So he can still sing and have power in his voice, just not on the higher parts.

I don't know if it's the lifestyle/training/rehearsing. Axl wasn't very fit in 2010 but he was much better than in 2006 where he was fitter. I guess it's just his vocal chords & aging and you can't do much about it.

I would prefer Axl to be very fit, but I think it's pretty clear he doesn't train throughout the year :') He must train like a month or two before the beginning of a tour, then trains during the tour, but as soon as it's over he's enjoying life. That's his way of living, that's what works for him, and who knows, he may live for another 30 years and perform in a wheelchair with the worst performance ever of his career. And you'll look back at 2021 and realize it was great! Hahaha

I think this Dude does a really good job.

I`ve heard the best madagascar made by this lineup (Atlantic City, 09-11-21 show) but unfourtanely the video is gone.
I thought that Axl`s voice reached his peak couple weeks ago, but it`s getting better and hopefully keeps improving show by show.

I agree. It's full Mickey most of the time... But his breath control is getting better.

Tbh I'm not sure that Steven was seriously considered for anything more than a few guest appearances.

Although I think Adler physically can't put up with touring at this level, his participation would be more like "you play Appetite era songs, Frank will play the rest of the songs" situation.

Theres some Frank bash in the end by Duff, ”He cant even play the drums” ”I must talk to Axl I cant play with this guy” We gotta rehearse again cause YOU dont play the drums!”

bullshit or not Frank and Duff seem to like each other, training together and stuff..

I think Duff said that just to save face to Matt since Duff had signed the deal already.

It's "for me it would be you, but there's nothing I can do about it"

The old habit of Duff and Slash to blame the lead singer for not stsnding up for themselves

  5. I personally think that if UYI was a single album it would be as big or bigger than Appetite.

If a real producer could choose the right tracklist it would be a massive album for all kinds of audiences.

It would be a more ballad album with Don't Cry, November Rain Civil War and Estranged but it would still have a pretty hard rock album for 1991

Agreed... They may not have been headlining yet but could have.. They were already the biggest band in the world by 88 imo... Evryone I knew fucking loved them.. While the Illusions tour was massively successful you could already start to see public opinion changing towards them in an unfavorable way..

GNR wasnt bigger than Bon Jovi and U2 in 1988

while the studio version of ABSUЯD still doesn't really do it for me (maybe at the moment I feel I know too much about "how the sausage gets made" when it comes to that track...20 years worth of sausage!) - I gotta say I feel like the live version kinda kicks. The band locks in and it's nice to hear the vocal without all the processing.

It's because the live version Axl sings at the right tempo

.And it's a bit surprising that he appears to have written more of I.R.S. than of Street Of Dreams and Catcher in the Rye. That could be either because these were his actual contributions on the music of Street Of Dreams and Catcher or because there were many writers on these songs so he wanted to give them a decent share.

Didn't Axl said in a interview something to the effect that Tommy had written the Bridge of Street Of Dreams?

Based on the songs we know and if this really is a collection of old stuff, how will your tracklist look like??

    1. Absurd

    2. Hard Skool

    3. Atlas Shrugged

    4. Soul Monster

    5. Goin Down (w/ Duff & Axl)

    6. State of Grace

    7. Quick Song

    8. Perhaps

    9. Oklahoma

    10. Circus Maximus

    11. Zodiac

    12. The General

I believe more of an ep that includes

    Absurd

    Hardskool

    Oh My God

    Slither

    Wichita Lineman

There were various different rumours in the press about what caused Axl's no show in Philadelphia: Axl watching a basketball game; the fur coat incident; the shows not selling well and Axl saying that the MSG show was the best they could do in that regard; Axl struggling with serious mental health issues and having his psychiatrist on tour, who advised him to continue performing, but Axl couldn't take it anymore and wanted to go to a mental hospital for treatment.

The mental health story is the most plausible (regardless of whether every detail in it was true), combined with another rumour about what specifically happened earlier that day: Axl was in great mood after the MSG show -  it had been sold out and gone really well - and stayed up, excited to read the reviews. But then he put oHoward Stern on the radio and when they were discussing the MSG show, Stern's producer, who was there, said that Axl was lip-synching, and hearing that caused Axl to have a nervous breakdown.

As @SoulMonster mentioned, in an interview (which was taken down as fake but was most likely real) shortly after the fact, Axl's bodyguard, Earl, said that Axl was dealing with emotional problems, didn't deny the mental hospital story, and stated that Axl cancelled the show early on, but the promoter went on with it (that's similar to what Axl himself said in 2012).

After the riot, the promoter, Clear Channel, cancelled the rest of the tour. The Philadelphia events in combination with the tour cancellation were followed by a lot of extremely negative press. Industry people were saying that it was the end for Axl and that no one would book a tour for him anymore or at least for a few years. And, of course, there were lawsuits (Axl said in 2012 that he had been sued for everything he said), which were still going until at least 2005.

There wasn't a rumour that the tour was weak on Ticket Sales and Clear Channel wanted to downscale the tour to smaller places and Axl refused so they cancel the entire tour?

Do you have a link to anything about recording of CD vocals line by line?

Vaguely remember something like that too, burried as a one line in a wider article/post/thread (which in itself was an interesting read).

    Steven said the he did that on Appetite that was his first record... With all the pressure over Chinese I really wouldn't doubt the he recorded word by word;

  12. I don't think there will be a next album . Nobody, except the hardcore fans of any, cares about an album. I think GNR will probably do what they did with Absurd . Drop a single, milk the shit out of it with concerts, youtube and spotify hits , merch... Drop another single, the same strategy.

These days there's no need to release an album . And Axl already has a couple of albuns of material to secure this kind of release to the rest of his artistic life. So nobody will jeopardize the touring machine with a possibility of  "musical differences" trying to write an entire new album  that will not pay the costs of its making.

Not knocking the dude but the reason he's been there 30 plus years now is because he doesn't rock the boat. The reason there was a Nu GnR in the first place is because Slash, Duff, and Matt had some backbone and were tired of doing absolutely nothing for 3 years with Axl.

And 19 years after rock the boat they come to do the same thing they said they wouldn't ... Being in a Guns N' Roses run by Axl.

The only one that seems to still have the backbone is Matt.

Dizzy was right all this time

On the UYI albums you could say that Dizzy was not needed. He has some writing credits on CD though. He's needed on tour for playing the piano parts, so that Axl can be the frontman without having to sit on the piano for many songs.

Melissa's role is adding effects, making guitars sound thicker, playing backing tracks, etc. Most bands have someone for these things, they just have them hidden behind the stage.

I disagree... I think some piano parts on UYI like Dust N' Bones,, Civil War, Get In The Ring, Bad Apples, Locomotive and Pretty Tied Up would it be much different if played by Axl. Dizzy has much more honky tonk, bluesy and southern style than Axl will ever have, and probably, Axl's style would no fit in these songs

There is a copy and paste glitch in the vocals. Second verse from memory. I wouldn't try and find it to be honest as once you've heard it once you'll never unhear it. If you've not spotted it yet you're in luck.

In the line "Sometimes I think my mind is a catastrophy.

Don't know if  it's a edit mistake or bad Autotune adjustment, but it's there

Please do your research on logos and how important they are to brands, companies, etc.  The use of a visual image is instantly recognized rather than words.  Think of the Rolling Stones or Nirvana. Anyway this is going beyond  what the topic is really about.

I've seen that with Gnr from 2000 to 2016, I've seen with Metallica, I've seen with Bon Jovi and Aerosmith who updated their logos. The Rolling Stones logo wasn't even their first

And I agree, there's beyond the topc
