You're delusional if you think GNR were still a band by even uyi then. Axl called the shots, the difference between the making of UYI and CD is a few more people coming and going. Besides that same process. Band makes songs, Axl decides if he wants to sing them.

End of the day. A band is a group of musicians that play together. I think you're talking about gnr not being being a gang. Two different things and if you go through the majority of major acts they aren't best buds, don't hang out and normally one or two members own the name and control the running of the band. That is how it is! But they are still bands, democracies? Not so much but again  this is the reality of bands and the music industry.

You obviously hadn't seen UYI line up videos off stage, have you?

ie, there is a lot more to the 'band' than making records, first and foremost chemistry between a group of people playing music whilst on and off stage

have you checked out other GNR forums? Everywhere that is GNR based is quiet and 'what ifs' or nostalgia are what's left to talk about.

actually no, I don't really care.  Th e only reason I still come here are posted interviews that happend here, there, Neverland...or some rumour someone heard and posted here. I've been a fan of this band for 30 years and the only thing that came out about this bend and its future post 1993 was speculations.

That being said, I have no desire in endless 'what if it rains tmw' type topics.

Being a fan for so long pretty much gives me an idea  of what to expect from this band in the future

  3. the most exciting that related to the band post 1994 was the Saskatoon 1993 pro shot.

the forum is just as boring, every thread here for years is based upon 'what if' speculation kind of thing

the only reason ppl come here are hopes of some sort of news but that is super rare, more rare than lunar eclipse

I know technically the first person to play drums under the gnr name was Rob Gardener, but I just don't count it.

He was in and out of the band in a matter of weeks/months. Basically none of his parts (or none full stop) were used after he left. He didn't record anything and he played very few shows, while they were completely unknown. To quote Lars "it doesn't hold any water". In my mind Gnr were formed on the hell tour and Steven is the original drummer.

That's not true. The majority of the people here have liked/loved gnr after the 96 break up. Not everyone liked the album, but a whole lot of people agree the band was on fire from 2006-2010.

As for Matt. He played on UYI and TSI. UYI, he came up with some of his own parts, and in other songs he played Stevens parts. He was a band member, but in terms of control and creative freedom he was absolutely no different to any member of gnr outside of the original 5. So he was a hired replacement. He didn't write any songs, he just played the parts. And he did all that stuff well! But he was just a capable player filling Stevens spot.

This karaoke BS that some people love to spew is hilarious too. If you had to be as accomplished as the majority of the CD line up to do karaoke it'd be a fairly niche passtime.

Depends how you view first drummer.

There are bands who replaced 10 members before recording debut.

It is ok to think the way you do, ut it is not very logical.   ...or do you really think it is ok throwing around names just for the sake of it!?

Be honest not even you heard Rob Gardner, so lets cut the BS.

In my books, the original drummer is the one who recorded debute album, his first replacement is legit, everyone else - revolving door or a replacement of a replacement.  Whichever way you want to look at it - doesn't change. As for facts, Any post '94 line up attracted way less crowds, was not on the levels of -91 -m '93 when the band ruled the worls and they played covers of '87 - '93 band.  Let's be honest, nobody 2006 - 2010 came to see CD songs, for no song off CD was on the quality level of AFD - UYI album.

For CD, there is far worse shit  that has some fan base, but that doesn't change the fact CD was EPIC train wreck.

Finally, do you really consider anyone apart from Axl as GNR member '93 - 2016!?!?

    No offence...

  5. 1)  '91 - '93 line up.

Rio, Paris, Saskatoon, Buenos Aires' 93 + 92, Chicago, Tokyo...need we say more?

    2) AFD

    3) Well...This is just 'beatin a dead horse'. If they want to stick to this, they might as well call it quits. Axl can't sing, nobody gives a fuck about Mel/Frank/Fortus...this line up existed for economical purpouses only, if they want to sell out anything post covid era, it will require Axl waving off some money

I couldn't care less about Gilby and Matt and it's pretty bold to speak for the marority of this forum.

That is ok, we don't need to agree on the same subject.

Most of us don't consider or care much about post Buenos Aires 17/7/93 or post TSI, for everything post was a tribute band to Matt/Gilby era or epic fail (Chinese Democracy).

Matt played on 3 GNR albums, biggest tour and together with Gilby was a replacement of original band memeber.

Everyone else post Matt or Gilby was just their replacement in a cover band, playing the parts they recorded (Matt), if you can live with that - fine, if not - fine.

That is a good point. Sad, but true. :(

I'm sincerely wondering, is it even probable for Slash to improve on songs that have Robin and Bucket guitar parts on it? I hate to think of what amazing material is in the vault from the CD era, that will have parts once solidified for an album, be re-recorded and brought down a few notches. I suppose it will all come down to Axl. As we saw with CD, he likes all current members to have their parts on the album. So at the very least, of the next album is CD2 (which is likely) it will have some, or all lead guitar parts re-recorded with Slash.

I'm hoping some of the songs stay as they were pre-reunion with Buckethead, it makes more sense for Slash to re-record Robin's parts. Maybe we will get a few gems with Bucket and Robin's work on the album. That is possible, but I think many or most will be re-recorded by Slash.

I'm fairly certain Bumblefoot and DJ will be totally removed from anything they have touched that hasn;t been released yet. Axl did like DJ though, seemingly, so you never know...

you do realize that most of us aren't even remotely interested in seeing a note released under GNR moniker unless it has Slash/Duff, Gilby/Izzy or Matt/Steve on it, right?

  8. GNR are done, the sooner you grasp - the better.

Covid has onc and for all killed that endless bublegum called NITL.

Axl 's vocal cords will be shut after a few year hiatus and that is pretty much it, done/finito/basta/ende/fini.thing positively, we will always have Saskatoon '93, Paris '92, Chicago '92, Rio '91, BA '93. and we will be spared of Frank playing under GNR moniker.

Iz there a chance to see them playing again?

Maybe. if Iz/Gilby step in and sing 14 Years, DTTJ, Don't cry, Its so easy...Will it be same, hell no.  Probably small venue sized gigs, but it will be as close as possible. Slash can't sing, Duff can give a handbut not much, Matt and Steve can back up.   They sure won't hire another singer to fill in for Axl, although that is exactly what Axl did for 15 years.

it is either that or - done.

Paris was a bit shaky, but Saskatoon was great. Of course when I think of GNR I think 91-93 that's my nostalgic golden period. That UYI band firing on all cylinders instrumentally would blow NITL off the stage! I also love Gilby, I'm not taking anything away from him... it's not a like this guy, so this guy has to be shit thing.

I'm not arguing that you're wrong, I'm just offering my opinion on your post as how I view GNR. We can agree that you can't and won't please everyone.

I will point out that GNR wore make up in the 80s "That is the band I want to see, no make up, McDonald hats, emo boys...this is not KISS". But I get what you're saying, it's not like I saw that for the first time and didn't think the same thing... but I eventually came to the conclusion that the music sounded good so even if the band looked like tits, I could enjoy it.

The other day, I decided to give this line up a fair chance, Went to ytb, opened up Rio 2017 and by the time YCBM was over - I was just ' I can't'.

I just cringed to how Axl sounds, how anti rock everything about Rich's stage presence is, how bad Frank plays, how little chemistry there is between Slash/Duff and everyone else between themselves (Rich sorta for himself, Frank too, Melissa needn't mention...).

I was once again watched Rio '91, Saskatoon '93, Chicago '92, Miami '91...They all had fun there, there was chemistry present, Slash/Duff/Gilby/Matt/Iz interacted with each other all the time, they sounded like the biggest band on the planet...This all sounds...fragile.  Not even 10% of what it sounded on the last Buenos Aires UYI show.

    Wow, bold statement.

I could perhaps agree that as a package deal, UYI1 and UYI2 could give AFD a run for its money, but I don't think either individual album matches up.

they were better musicians on the UYI's, the songs were more complexed, drums more bombastic.

I also never liked how AFD was speed up in mix, while UYI had the real tempo.

Other than My World and Bad Obsession there is not a song I would cut out.   UYI's were the albums I listened to most in my liife and I can just say as magnificent as the day they came out.

Estranged, November Rain and Estranged,  Dead Horse, Back off, Bad Apples, Don't damn me...Breakdown, Locomotive, Pretty tied up...Civil war, Get in the ring....Right next door, DDTJ...YCBM, Don't cry....

Seriously, you can't have a better album than that.

  11. even after sooooo many years down the line there are still some people who don't understand that this band is inactive if there is no news.

nobody is touring for over a year, very few are in the studio and Axl sure as hell is not one of them.

what news are you expecting? Axl sitting on his porch watching sun set as he did yesterday and the day before and the day before...

There is a reason why Ax/Slah/Duff didn't release original music since 1991, if you didn't understand by now, do so....

there is no chemistry in this band that used to be there 1986 to UYIs, and they will not release stuff that is below that norm. Period.

Well of course some would have liked it, just like some don't like the current line up

Absolutely.  That's why when the question is 'what would you...' you can't satisfy all but say your opinion.

My opinion is that all replacements after Gilby were laughable.  Personality, style, in one word - fit.

Someone else will diasagree, yet  we should all get along and respect each other opinions...

My opinion, GNR as a band can't top Paris'92, Saskatoon '93 in any other formation.  That is the band I want to see, no make up, McDonald hats, emo boys...this is not KISS

To be honest, I think it would've surpassed it. No tacky cover versions or b-grade material like Back Off Bitch or Garden of Eden. Just straight up killer rocknroll.

I had to omit Estranged as you can't have four 8+min epics on one album.

    1. Right Next Door To Hell
    2. Dust N Bones
    3. Civil War
    4. Bad Obsession
    5. Don't Cry
    6. Locomotive
    7. Breakdown
    8. Double Talkin Jive
    9. November Rain
    10. The Garden
    11. You Could Be Mine
    12. Bad Apples
    13. Coma

no. both uyi's are better than afd

I love how Izzy "was GNR" but then you see him easily replaced by Gilby in possible reunion situations, when Gilby is just a less technical (but likeable) version of Richard😄 GNR fan logic, amazing! if Richard was in the UYI line up and now Gilby was in NITL everybody would be saying "gilbys basic, they need to get Richard back" and it has nothing to do with the player, it's all about nostalgia. The UYI and AFD line ups are never returning EVEN if they do get back together. Those types of performances will never be repeated again, so enjoy the filmed concerts and if you want to enjoy live GNR go see the current band... I know they aren't as good, but it is what it is.

Also... the idea that having a new line up would actually change anything is also laughable. New line doesn't change how Axl sings, doesn't bring new music... probably includes a new set though. I'll finish by saying that Sorum isn't user friendly to the guys in GNR. He's a guy they can play with for odd occasions, but they like playing with drummers that don't have ego issues. Izzy, well he doesn't want to tour consistently like GNR do, so he automatically means they need another guitar player in the wings... also, he obviously was offered a role in NITL, but he was more interested in the bottom line than coming playing a few shows here and there we can't say one's in it for the money and not say it about the other. If Izzy was all about the music, he would have joined them like Steven who publicly said he'd do it for free. I don't know what they offered him, it was lower than what he wanted though, I also don't know the extent of his involvement but highly doubt he was going to sign on for every show from 2016-2020 judging by his own solo touring inactivity.

uhmmmm...no, just no. there is much more to playing in a band than being just 'technical'.

maybe some would. but there would always be some when it omes weather/cars/women/beverages/food.

As I said, that info was from the links posted HERE.   No need to be cynical, it wouldn't have to be too hard to search the internet for ticket sales of ie 2015, 2014, 2012...,given I already told you where to look.

Furthemore, I will tell you that booking Axl band in 2012 was already possible for under 200k. (and yes, I do know ppl whose agency booked 2 shows on the European leg 2012).

When was this 2011, 2014...?  now I am totally bummed.   You guys in Holland DID know that Slash/Duff/Iz/Gilby/Matt were long gonne before purchasing the tickets, even though the show was marketed as GNR, right!?

  17. Half a million!?!?   That MUCH?

    I am bummed.

Honestly guys, I hate to bring you the truth, but back in the day, billboard was bringing out facts about sales - down to the ticket.

outside US and London, they hardly exceeded over 2,500 tix on a solo gig basis. They played 10k Arenas that were 1/5 full

Do some research, those links were posted here back in the day

Europe are severely underrated, especially their last few albums, well worth a look if you haven't or just check out their wacken set, these guys know how to deliver live! totally different to Toto too, although both are brilliant live.

I am an old school Europe fan ;)  Saw them last about 10 years ago.  Album wise their peak for me ended with Prisoners in Paradise (the record label changed the executives as they recorded that album so they kept cutting down their track listing, which resulted in many great songs being cut out (Here comes the night, Yesterdays news....).

I kept on buying theirrecords as they came out, liking Last look at eden and Bag of Bones best, but I became done with them from War of kings onwards.

Instead of sounding like Europe, they now sound like Deep Purple d side album after album.  Completely lost their own personality IMO.
