  1. @Oldest Goat for many years now you’ve made a habit of trolling me for my faith. For once and for all I’m going to explain to you why I’m Catholic, despite all your reservations.

I want to know God. As I’m not Jewish nor Greek, western Catholic Christianity provides a wide range of tools to do so. I have been deeply, personally hurt by a member of the church with responsibilities in their profession and personal life. I trusted them more than anyone else and they didn’t live up to that. I also grew up in a community which has been affected by the clerical abuse crisis. Why do I persist? Because I don’t let the actions of others dictate my relationship with God. I’m not “endorsing the Vatican” even though some members got up to some nasty stuff. I’m pursuing God and frankly I haven’t found as nearly as much truth nor beauty in any other denomination. I’m sorry that my faith upsets you, but you should really search for peace for yourself.

Condemns Kanye West for his remarks while endorsing the vatican who, among many other despicable things, protected Nazis.

    Dim af.

Sorry I’ll climb back into my cave where I’m not allowed to have an opinion on Kanye West, because someone I’ve never met also once did something bad.

  3. How many misdemeanours does a person have to commit before they’re cancelled? Because I wouldn’t mind if I never heard about Kanye West again.

He’s severely mentally ill and has been for at least a decade. Being married to Kim Kardashian seemed to be good for him. But she’s intelligent and he lets his ego eclipse his good qualities.

He’s said some anti semetic things lately, hasn’t he? Do we just let that slide until he’s exposed for worse crimes?

Guy needs to retire with a nice arm chair, a strong cup of tea and a stack of books. Time to focus on his kids. After ten years, he can release a philosophical rap album with sage life advice.

  4. I accidentally clicked back to reading old threads in AG from ten years ago. The forum was much busier and I got way nostalgic! There seemed to be a common theme of people with personal issues they wanted the forum to discuss, and with random insane threads such as ‘happy birthday Robert Mugabe’ as if he reads this place.

  5. Left Twitter after being a prolific user (and somewhat one of the bigger normie personalities on there) a few years ago.

Still on FB because I’m in a mums group where I feel I have genuine friendships and support. However the rest of it is ads.

Currently running three Instagram accounts. One for work, one personal and one for stuff about the housing crisis.

I was advised to get TikTok to watch a video by someone called StrangeKevin. I didn’t really get the point of it, so I deleted it immediately.

  6. Going to any arena gig is a huge logistical headache as well as expense for me. I’m happy to pay up to £100 for a ticket, maybe stretch to £150 if it was John Lennon resurrected, or less likely, ABBA reunited.

To be expected to pay premium prices for tickets when just the cost of living is high enough is a mockery. The whole point of stadiums is that you can sell more tickets with the same amount of energy investment as an arena, or even smaller. I’d rather go to my local music bar and pay a tenner to see some unknown talent and get a cab home.

  7. Congratulations Dazey. Thanks for your contribution as one of the most fun members of this forum. You’re articulate, intelligent, witty and you’re just as lovely in real life too. And I still think you are quite cute!

  8. Didn’t John 5 also play with Marilyn Manson? Mick Must be getting towards 70 now. He’s done well to stay in such an active job for so long. And fair play to him, if the movie is to be believed, he took the gig because he had a family to support. Could have walked as soon as he made his money. He’s regarded as one of the best guitarists of all time - overall a good job well done. I wish Mick a happy retirement.

Edit: he’s 71. Definitely time to put the snooker on.

I signed up for the forum in an internet café in a hotel on one of the Scottish islands... It was £1 per hour to use the internet, all of the PCs had coin slots. I remember trying to load flash videos hosted on the main MyGNR site of the Rock in Rio 2001 performance to try and see what on earth GN'R sounded like post-1994.

I bet they're still buffering now!

Anything Goes was great, but it spilled over into MSN messenger, which makes me feel very old!

  10. Yes, I love watches. I'm not too into jewellery, but a watch really does it for me.

This is my current everyday watch. I'm a big fan of Lacoste, its an excellent piece of branding. Not the easiest to read the time though! I also have a gold watch which I inherited from my grandma, which I'll wear on dressy occasions.

I was gifted a nice watch for my 21st birthday. Accidentally left it on the beach in Florida, so I bought an identical secondhand one from ebay. The person who gifted me the original doesn't know. I do regret losing it though.

I've never had a Swatch, but that might be my next one. The trouble is, they're fairly pricey considering how plasticky they are.

It just hit me how I’ve lurked this forum ever since I was a pre teen, and only turned 20 a few weeks ago haha

Shouldn’t have spent so much time in my formative years reading the crap on here, now I’m a broken young man

Try serving almost 20 years here. I signed up when I was staying over at my grandparents' house when I was 15 - they had Internet access, which I didn't have at my family home. I've got several real-life friends whom I met here.

  12. So I'm on maternity leave, doing infrequent freelance work to keep paying my pension contributions.

I'm probably going to try to get an employed job when I return, as I'm facing a childcare bill of £2K every month. Income from the business could cover it, but I'd have to go back to basics and forgo a studio and other expenses.

A masters degree is still on my bucket list. Kind of for the sake of having one. They're not cheap. It's really about dedicating the time to upskill.

  13. @actionWhat you've described is a characature of a minority of vocal socially left-wing people. Ten years ago conservatives were calling it political correctness. The conservative media use this kind of divisive language to demonise people and to create a scapegoat for government or societal failures. Literally not one 'wokist' is after you nor your kids. A bit like how not one teenage single mum, Irish immigrant, Muslim or family crossing the Channel in a dinghy was ever a threat to the wellbeing of anyone else.

Use your passion for the issues you want changing.

I will concede that you do have some valid points regarding diversity of thought, however political activists aren't interested in hearing a perspective which doesn't further their agenda. This isn't 'normal' - the majority of intelligent people will consider areas of conflict and be happy to listen to any person who better informs them.

  14. @janrichmondWe went to Malta this year. Ghadira Bay is beautifully sandy. You can travel by bus anywhere on the island for €3. You can get fairly upmarket accommodation quite reasonably too.

The only thing I'll warn you about is the pavements are very uneven, so don't be walking around looking at your phone!

  15. Absolutely against it. Modern prisons are secure enough that we don't need to kill a perpetrator to avoid a repeat crime. Plus, there's no civilised or dignified way to kill someone. The lethal injection isn't as quick and painless as a vaccine. It's not even close to putting a dog to sleep.

We need a state to administer justice, but I don't think that ending life should be within its responsibilities.

Let's take the example of Louis Castro Perez in Texas. He's always claimed innocence. Another guy admitted to the crime privately. Since, the other guy who confessed has already been executed for other murders, so couldn't be investigated further. It's a complex story and I don't know if he's innocent or not, but there should have been a better investigation into this, and there might have been if they just had life without parole instead.
