If you would have told me a year ago wed have axl and slash in stadiums and axl fronting ac/dc i'd have be my life against you... these are epic times

  2. I was horrified to hear axl was taking on the acdc thing because 1) I didn't think he could pull off vocally 2) acdc fans would boo him crazy and he'd go into a depression and hide away 3) it detracts from my ultimate want for new original gnr material

but holy shit I've been blown away by his performances. It will be interesting to see if it carries over into gnr momentum.

But I downloaded some acdc. Only ever liked a few songs but I'm digging it enough until gnr is back on track

He was just a 50 year old man eating poorly, drinking every day, and not exercising outside of touring....that's worse than health issues. He definitely has found a workout regime this past year, but he hasn't stopped drinking so his face is still bloated but he doesn't care about that. The voice is stronger and he can still move fine. He's the only one in gnr that can still have a drink when he wants

The weight could be due to meds though... a lot of anti-depressants and the like cause bad weight gain

  4. I get that Pitman hasn't been the most graceful about his exit (but then again that was a private message I think someone else shared) but he was in the band since 98. And whether you consider him just a towel waver, he is well respected in the music world. Axl didn't bring him on board for no reason. God only knows what kind of bat shit nonesense from axl he's had to endure over the years. And as someone else pointed out Axl held out a carrot over him for years that all this music they worked on for a decade would eventually see the light of day.

I can think of nothing more frustrating than dealing with Axl and his bat shit behaviour for 20 years all the while thinking it would be worth it for the artistic payoff. Now none of those song will see the light of day

chris may be a bad sloppy drunk but I think he deserved much more loyalty from Axl, I think it was pretty cold... although of course I don't know what happened.

Glad his background vocals are gone though... and truly don't see the need for a second keyboard anyway. lol

I hear what you're saying, but to my ears, I still hear a difference between his 86 vocals (less raspy) and the Adelaide performance you're highlighting.  He's still using his head voice in the 86 videos, where he's using more his falsetto voice for the Australian show.  There's still a tonal and timber difference between the two.  At least, that's how I hear it.  He's still using the same singing techniques in these old videos as he was using post 1988.  It's just after 1988, all that stress he's putting on his vocal folds is beginning to take its toll, resulting in him sound liking a squawking parrot by 1991-1992.  I'd argue he's using different techniques in the Adelaide clip you posted.  But like I said, to each their own.

yea you nailed it. I've taken about 10 years of lessons. And Axl 86-93 is primarily chest voice pushed through the throat. 2001-2007 was when the head, chest voice hybrid came in, although he seemed to be able to do the mid range high E-A still with some chest voice but struggled. Now that same range is done all with head voice. He can really get the rasp on the really high stuff and around the c-e range with chest but like in the verses in sweet child where the notes are all mid range E-A its all head voice and thin.

2010 he seemed to go back to 91-13 era chest voice

  6. I can't see Izzy or Steve playing Chinese era tunes and in order for Axl to save face he wants those tunes played as part of the GNR evolution. Izzy is just to non-commital to rely on for 3 million dollars a show, same goes for Adler. I completely understand why this Incarnation of GNR is happening. Hopefully there will be guest spots for Izzy but I can see why he'd but put off by that. I'm sure Steven will show up at some point once his back his healed.

Axl considered Gilby and Matt about as important to GNR as pitman or Bubblefoot

  7. Man Axl must have upped his prozak, he not only reunites with Slash, he agrees to fill in for AC/DC... this a guy who disappears for years at a time.

Not sure his foot is going to heal before May 7th to put on a great show or how he'll take the back lash of a stadium full of negative AC/DC fans.... not like axl takes criticism well. Plus learning a repertoire of songs his voice isn't use to in a very demanding style could totally blow his voice out.

I mean I'm curious but I think its way too fucking risky with a stadium tour which will either end his career miserably or cement GNR as legends and not have a legacy of a loonie tunes singer who wasted 20 years on flopped solo project.

  8. Honestly everyone

ive been waiting for 23 years to see axl and slash together but it wasn't worth the cash

    axls tone is awful

slash nailed gnr tunes but his take on the cd stuff hurt ...

I left before the show was done because it wasn't enjoyable any more

I guess i hoped axl would be more on top of it . His voice is just gone. Poor guy with broken foot ... I mean no ill will , he just doesn't sound great.
