  1. You know I'm glad GN'R is amazing, DJ Ashba and Bumblefoot really show that Guns doesn't need Slash, rather Slash needs Guns. What has Slash done since leaving Guns?! I don't see Slither being called the greatest riff of all time or Fergie nailing Paradise City. Rather, I see Chinese Democracy being talked about in SOME SHAPE OR FORM, negative or positive and I see people saying DJ Ashba nailed the solos.

You must have been living under a rock when Contraband came out. Slither won a Grammy for rock song of the year, and spent almost 2 months at #1 on the modern and mainstream rock charts. CD barely sniffed any radio play of any kind.

If you're going to bag on Slash, make sure you at least have your facts straight as Slither garnered far more attention than any song on CD and it is not even close.

  2. I think they'll add more songs when Axl gets in shape. His voice is pretty damn good but the extra wait seems to be tiring him out quicker.

He shouldn't have agreed to tour unless he was in shape enough to give 100% at every show from the start.

This whole "he'll play his way in shape more later in the tour" mentality would piss me off if I had tickets to these early shows as it is not fair to the fans he didn't show up ready to give 100% when he is getting paid for 100% effort at show 1 and show 50.

  3. My favorite song, but It's pretty obvious that Axl can't pull out this Live. A shame

Musically it sounds pretty good and is one of my fave's off the album, but Axl has sounded like a mess every time he tries it.

I can't help but feel he has not rehearsed this much if at all with them, because he is clearly the weak link in it (and some of the other songs he struggles on).

It is kind of unfair to ask the band to be on point with this stuff when he clearly isn't putting in the effort on getting some of the new material down the way they have.

  4. 16 GNR songs today vs. 18 in Taiwan.

They need to be at 22-23 songs (not jams and solos) every show. If Axl is not in shape enough to do so now, then he should have not agreed to tour until he would be in the physical condition needed to put on a full show. It is not fair to fans at the first few shows to give them abbreviated setlists littered with solos because Axl is the one everyone is coming to to see ultimately as he is GNR, and most of the band had very little to do with the recording of basically all of GNR's catalog including the CD material. Rightly or wrongly the shows are all about Axl for most people, and he can do better than 16 or 18 songs.

  5. If Axl hired a personal trainer and excercised the way Mick Jagger and Bruce Springstein do, his voice and his showmanship on stage would be much better. The reason Mick Jagger and Bruce ( 2 dinosaurs) are really good live is because they put a lot of work into it by excercising like a motherfucker. These guys really take pride in their live shows and they work their asses off to be able to put on a kick ass 3 hour set each night. It's like boxing, I don't care how great a boxer you are, if you don't train before a fight you are going to get your ass beat no matter what. A 47 yr old man is not as old as some of you are making it out to be. If Axl took pride in his physical shape, he could be like he was in 1992-93. He needs to be skinny in order to pull off the stage moves he used to do. Now he looks like Vince Neil trying to dance like Axl. I think it's great that he is back and improved his band, but he needs to train. Don't kill me for my comments, just being honest.

I would agree he is capable of more than 18 songs in a night (Tommy sung one to make 19). It might have just been a parred down setlist because if was the first show of the tour, but he certainly should be doing at least 22-23. If his stamina can't handle it, then he needs to workout more as you say.

If Springsteen as you say at 60+ can play for 3 hours and almost 30 songs a night, it is not like someone is being unrealistic in wanting to see a little more out of Axl because his age certainly is not precluding him from a more extended effort.

  6. How likely is it that Axl and the band are just gonna go in the studio after working on a album for 14 years?

That is water under the bridge at this point. The current album is now over a year old, and on prior tours they had played roughly 50% of it live already before it had been released.

It is going to be hard to get people to go out and pay again for a show they will have ostensibly already seen (at least in the U.S) outside of a 2-3 new songs being played live.

  7. The fans will completely fill the stadiums just need some memento to build

The only way to get momentum and fill stadiums (outside of places you haven't played in a decade plus) at this point is a new album that actually has hit songs on it that will spend time on the radio for all to hear.

Soon enough he will have hit everywhere at least once to cash in on the nostalgia factor for ticket sales, and at that point the only way to move forward is to get back in the studio and start a new album from scratch with the line-up he has now.

  8. *shakes head* If you look at the set-list it leans heavily on CD tunes. This list is exactly what we needed to see to prove that this is a viable current band NOT a nostalgia only act! It's a great band, sounding fantastic playing live, great stage show and lots of new material in the list, what else do you want?

It is 10 old songs vs. 8 new to be fair to his argument, and considering they were playing 5-6 new songs in 06' maybe some people were hoping to see more than a net gain of 2 new songs a show for the new tour after the album had finally been released.

  9. This would be an album I would be more apt to listen to is slash made a similar intrumental aproach.

I think we still have yet to hear Slash's best material until he branches out, and goes into areas of music he isn't entirely comfortable with.

    What do you guys think?

Been there done that already in a sense.

I love vocalise, and it is one of my favorite pieces of music he has done, but I don't want an album of it. A song or 2 yes, but not an album.

    (Live if you prefer)

Not sure how much further outside his comfort zone he can go as it is him playing Rachmaninoff classical music.

  10. the clearances are coming thru

Maybe Slash should share his secrets with Axl on how to legally deal with the minutia of releasing an album in a timely manner because he will have managed to get clearances and all other legal hurdles done from like 20 different record labels in about a years time.

Can anyone even imagine Axl taking that on? We would have a minimum 10 year wait on our hands along with various sob stories along the way of not even possibly understanding the legal complexities involved with doing such a thing.

Kudos to Slash for not being detered by the legal process of making this happen.

  11. PCD's Nicole Scherzinger Tagged to Slash's Upcoming Solo Album

    October 12, 2009

A duet song between Nicole Scherzinger and Slash is in the works, so it was unveiled. "I just did a song with Slash for his album, and I just did a duet with Alice Cooper," the lead singer of R&B girl group The Pussycat Dolls opened up.

The collaboration project has been teased since last week following Nicole and the former guitarist of rock band Guns N' Roses' duet performance on October 2 during the 20th anniversary of The Mirage Resort and Casino at Bare Pool Lounge in Las Vegas. At the gig, they delivered one of the Dolls' hit singles "When I Grow Up".

Slash's first solo studio album is called "Slash & Friends" and slated for release next year. Dave Grohl and Duff McKagan have been confirmed to make contribution to the effort. Such names as Iggy Pop, Nick Oliveri, Ronnie Wood, Flea, Jason Bonham, Stacy Ferguson, and Maroon 5's singer Adam Levine are also attached to the upcoming album.

  12. Slash's album on paper looks like it should be a monster. Let's hope it plays out that way when we put it in the stereo the first time.

I have to think though with all that talent he has assembled as well as the fact he probably knows this may be a once in a lifetime shot for him I would like to think he isn't going to leave anything on the table.

This was an awful ambitious project to take on when you consider he hasn't been recording all that long and has managed to coordinate getting all of those different artists into the studio.

  13. Among the endless Jacko stories I have been reading one was about this girl who was going to be his lead guitarist for his upcoming tour. I was somewhat interested only because I had never heard of her and some of his stuff is pretty challenging, so I went and checked her out on youtube.

I was really blown away. She is a 24 year old Australian girl named Orianthi. She is kind of hot to boot. She is an awesome player, and I guess she has been playing with Steve Vai since she was 15 and has taken a tour with Santana as well. He was bowled over by her talent and said if there were one guitarist in the world he could pass the baton to now it would be her.

There are plenty of guys on the planet I am sure that play better guitar, but there is something awesome about seeing a good looking girl be able to play at least in the ballpark of the Vai, Satriani, and Santanas of this world. The Michael Jackson tour was going to be her big break, but I suspect we will see something of her at some point because with that type of talent on guitar and an ability to sing as well there is a place for that in music somewhere. Here are a few different youtube links as well as some pictures.

  14. Yea.. He's performed SCOM with Fergie before though.. But it will be really really awesome Slash playing this again.

I actually expect it to musically sound much better than the versions he has played with Fergie. Slash has always sounded ace as he plays it like only he can, but this time it will be his own band that he can have rehearse it a bunch of times as he wants it done as well as having everyone's instruments tuned as he would like to get a better sound. In his appearances with Fergie it has always been done real quick in the middle of one of her sets, but I suspect now a little more thought and care will be put into it. I may be wrong though, who knows.

  15. It is completely disgusting by the way that Slash can remember to give a weekly update on Myspace a few days after his mother dies of lung cancer and his former bandmate can't be bothered to leave his house much less think of communicating with his fans.

Slash has an awful lot of character and is a stand up guy for sure. It is awesome that even in a time of crisis he remembers those (his fans) that root for and have helped get him to the place he is in life now.

  16. Update from Slash:

    Ola Hudson

Hello all, as some of you may already know, my mom (Ola Hudson) died 6:30am last Friday morning of Lung Cancer. This is a difficult time, but I have to share with you that she was the sweetest, warmest, most loving human being I've ever known (next to my grandmother on her side), as well as one of the most creative & talented. She was also the coolest Rock & Roll mom a Rock junkie like myself could ever possibly want to have. She was responsible for exposing me to a lot of the music that would influence me as a musician growing up. As well as introducing me to "the life" & priming me to survive this crazy business that I'm now in. But more importantly, she turned me on to all different forms of art & the importance of artistic self expression & creative communication thru music & dance from as early on as I can remember. She really was all things artistic & creative personified & the world is a lesser place without her.

I still haven't grasped fully that she is gone & this is going to take some time to process. But, I have gotten a lot of really genuine condolences from many of you & I want to tell you that I appreciate it more than you can possibly know. My family & I thank you for your support.

    Sincerely,

    Slash
