  1. From yesterday:

    From Perla...

    # playing rumicub with the girls while slash puts strings on the most beautiful ballad

I have most been looking forward to the ballads on this album because IMO Slash has been a master at laying down awesome solos on ballads throughout his career as his guitar tone and feeling just suit them so well. Given the freedom to wank away on them without being constricted by anyone since it is his album I am fully expecting some monster solos out of him. If he approaches what he did on Street Child I would be thrilled and if he reaches his GNR level with one it would be a musical orgasm for his fans. His performance on Vocalise was awesome last year, and if he took that frame of mind into his album I suspect we are going to love it. A monster Slash solo, strings and a top notch vocal (I am expecting nothing less considering the talent has lined up) is a formula for an awesome ballad. Let's hope he delivers.

  2. Slash laying strings down.

But, but, but he is only interested in making the same AC/DC all over again, he won't do anything to progress his sound and the variety of music he makes, he isn't committed to pushing himself and expanding his horizons, and so on and so forth.

Strings, Flamenco guitars, now all we need is some Pitman noises and we would have a blues based rock n' roll version of Chinese Democracy.

I find it amazing that from what he has told us there should be a great deal of variety on the album, and it will all be done, with the added conplexity of coordinating 12+ different vocalists, and a sea of different drummers and guitar players to come in and record in roughly a year's time. If it took Axl 10+ years to finish 14 songs with just the members of own band it is safe to say if he embarked on a project like Slash is trying to do it it would be like waiting for the 100 year flood or hailey's comet.

I guess we no know with certainty the Pitman noises were the culprit for the extra 10 years it took Axl to finish CD, because it seems Slash is planning on offering a wide variety of songs much like Axl tried to do.

  3. ''Slash: Ok, here we go, this should be seriously over the top heavy. #fb''

This was posted 20 minutes before the Izzy tweet. I would think it is somehow related to his contribution to the song. I wonder if that means we should expect a major self indulgent and wanky solo, in which case it should be a euphoric moment for GNR fans because they worked so well together in that way in Guns together.

  4. Thankyou Slash and Izzy for caring enough about GNR fans to give us a song that sounds like it was written by GNR. I suspect this song musically will be in the mold of what people were hoping for on CD. Cheers to Izzy for joining the party. I hope this is the Adler track, because it would really then be as close to GNR as we are ever going to get at this point.

  5. God love Slash for giving the people what they want. He is not dumb, and knows the GNR community would love seeing Izzy and Popcorn show up somewhere on this album. The Slash/Izzy track will probably sound far more GNR musically than anything we have heard from Axl on his own yet. That just got me totally excited, because of all the people we had heard rumored never heard Izzy brought up. Not to worry anymore though!

  6. For once I`d like to hear an artist working on something admiting it`s not going to be his best work ever.

While it will be nearly impossible to top his success and work in Guns, Slash's CD has a chance to be pretty fucking awesome when you look at the level of talent he has surrounded himself with on this album.

I always thought musically Snakepit kicked ass, but the singers did absolutely nothing for me. With the roster of singers he will have I am almost positive that will no longer be a problem, and Josh Freese is a stud on drums and Chris Chaney is a very accomplished session musician on the Bass.

With Slash having the freedom to rip away on totally self indulgent and wanky solos coupled with high level vocals and a very above average rythm section I see no reason not to have extremely high expectations for this album.

It is a once in a lifetime opportunity for him to assemble that kind of roster of such accomplished singers, and he probably knows that. So I totally expect him to blow his wad on it as there is no second chances or do overs.

    weekly update

Hey all, how's it going? I've been really busy with recording etc, I haven't been keeping in touch.

Outside of working on the record things have been quiet. No VR updates as of this writing, but I'm anxious to see something happen with an amazing frontman for the band in the not too distant future, whoever that might be.

My gig at the Quart Fest is coming up in Norway, June 30th. Which, is starting to come together. I'll post who all's playing next week, but it's a great line-up & the songs so far are shaping up to be a really great set.

As far as the record goes, we're almost done with vocals, 2 more songs left & a couple odds & ends. Then, I can stand back & see what we've got. It is a fucking awesome ensemble, that much I do know, with brilliant performances from each & every singer. I do hope to have a release date soon, but I can assure you, as I said before, it won't be this year. It will, most definitely, be out be very early in the new year. Even though the recording process is almost done, the legal logistics involved with so many different artists takes a minute to iron out.

When the record is released I plan on posting what gear was used on what songs; guitars, amps etc. Although, most of it was done with one guitar & 2 amps. A lot of interesting mike set-ups though. The record is being recorded anolog as well, this might be one of the last rock & roll records to be recorded that way, no joke. So, of course, I have to release it on vinyl, as well as cd.

Right then, I guess that's it. I'll have the Quart Fest line-up for you guys next week & anything else that comes up as well, have a good one.

    Slash iiii||; )

  8. In 7 out of 8 years, the first place winner has beaten the second place winner career wise since the show.

In none of the 8 years has some of the world's greatest musicians been falling all over themselves to work with the runner up the way they are Adam. If he called Brian May tomorrow and said he wanted to do the Queen thing it would happen. If he calls up Slash and says come play on my album for a song, he will be there. He wants to sing a Zeppelin song on the show, sure, no problem. Happens to be the first and only time they have ever let anyone use one of their songs, probably because they knew he had the talent not to make a mess of it.

No runner up has ever had that type of credibility with such high caliber artists. You can continue to believe what you want, but comparing this season to any of the past 7-8 is comparing Apples to Oranges.

David Archuleta last year didn't exactly have the likes of Brian May beating his door down to work with him last year. This kid is in a totally different league whether you choose to believe it or not.

  9. I am bummed it isn't coming out until next year but I am super excited for it. I think this album is going to be amazing, as he is going to have 12-14 of the world's best singers as well as the freedom to whail away on the guitar as much as he wants. Josh Freese is a hell of a drummer, and I expect the musicianship of the album to be off the charts.

I have always really liked the Snakepit albums musically, but the singing never did anything for me. If Slash even repeats that with superior vocals from everyone it will be a success, but I think we are going to see an even more inspired effort out of him considering this is his baby and his excitement level for it is through the roof. He seems genuinely pumped about the whole process, which is awesome.

  10. I dont want to read through 27 pages of this thread.

Can somebody update me on the what we know for sure.

What singers are on this album? Not rumoured singers, but confirmed.

Slash himself hasn't confirmed anyone, but his wife and the some of the singers have confirmed themselves through postings on their various websites. Ones we know for sure according to Perla/themselves are: Ozzy Osbourne, Fergie, Kid Rock, Lemmy, and M. Shadows.

Another one that is 99% probable is Chris COrnell. He posted he was going to the studio to work with a legendary guitarist, and Slash posted the exact same night he was going to the studio to work with one of rock's best singers. Seems way too coincidental they would be heading to the studio the same night to work with people that fit those descriptions accurately.

  11. Losing was really the best thing to happen to the kid. You win and you are kind of stuck into wherever they steer you.

Brian May told Rollingstone they are giving serious consideration to asking Adam to be the lead singer of Queen.

"After Lambert's performance with the rock legends on the American Idol finale last week, Queen guitarist Brian May told Rolling Stone magazine that the band is toying around with the idea of Lambert becoming Queen's permanent frontman!

Says May: "…[Drummer Roger Taylor] and I are definitely hoping to have a meaningful conversation with [Lambert] at some point. It's not like we, as Queen, would rush into coalescing with another singer just like that. It isn't that easy. But I'd certainly like to work with Adam. That is one amazing instrument he has there."

Not that he would even take that gig if offered, but not winning gives him the opportunity to consider these types of things.

The rock world is falling over themselves to work with this kid. His vocal range is otherworldly, and you would have to be out of your mind not to want to work with him as a rock act if you are looking for a singer. The fact he is gay and kind of fruity doesn't even come up in most circles because his talent is overwhelming, and not that that kind of thing should matter but I suspect ordinarily it might be a turn off to most in that genre.

I look forward to seeing where he goes, but I hope it is more rock than pop as he has a real gift vocally and rock music could use a few more booming voices like that. You can make any pop singer sound good with a few pro-tools, but you can't create that type of range with a computer program.

  12. andrew stockdale wrote this about his song w/ slash:

Had a great jam with Slash and his crew last night, I think we may well have an epic on our hands, with a monumental solo of course!!!!

11:08 AM May 3rd from web

    Roy-

Did you happen to see this comment from Stockdale about his jam with Slash. From the way he is talking it is going to be quite a tune as he seems excited. You thought it would be your favorite before, if it lives up to his hype it will be a virtual wet dream for you.

  13. Its hard to explain, but I really needed this creative outlet to do stuff I haven't been at liberty to do in a LONG while.

I think this is a direct reference to long, GNR style epic solos that he never was at liberty to do in VR because for whatever reason Scott felt threatened by the idea of Slash being Slash. I am not sure how else one could possibly read into that. I also suspect we will be hearing a much more classic rock sound out of him than VR had.

Anyone else find it shocking that instead of taking over VR totally and demanding they change the sound of the band to entirely what he wants at the moment he decided to do it through the solo route so as to scratch the itch as well as keep his band intact at the same time.

  14. I am really getting excited about this Slash album. These twitter updates really don't tell us anything concrete and are pretty meaningless, but for some reason I like them because at least we know he is working on it and not sitting at home on his ass. It also gives us something concrete to speculate about instead of just throwing things into the wind with no basis in reality. I think he is really going to assemble a top notch list of singers, as this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for him and he has built a hell of a rolodex over the years I suspect.

  15. I've never seen GnR live before so it would be totally awesome if they tour so i can see them

Neither have I. I have seen Axl in concert a few times in 2002 and 2006, but still have never seen that elusive GNR concert anywhere but on video.

  16. The track I did with Busta Rhymes for Transformers 2 is sick! He is badass!! #fb

There goes Slash again, a guy who refuses to evolve or venture out of his comfort zone and is strictly interested only in beating the same AC/DC generic rock song into the ground for 30 years.

Slash does Rachmaninoff on Les Paul's tribute album and a track with Busta Ryhmes within a calendar year. Those 2 things are about as polar opposites as you are going to find, and it is a tribute to Slash's extraordinary versatility that people from all across the music spectrum and genres are looking to work with him. Someone obviously forgot to give Slash that memo about him being stuck in the past and refusing to play anything but the same generic rock song over and over.

  17. He's deffiantly trying to reach a broad audience obviously. That's cool, props to him for being open to everything.

That is not new news. If you look at the list of people he has worked with over the years, it totally blows a whole in the "Slash didn't want to evolve, he just wanted to play the same rock song over and over" myth that has been propogated among a segment of GNR fans over the years. He has worked with people across almost every genre except country, so it is hard to say he is not open to different styles.

  18. Not sure releasing a song that has essentially been floating out there in one form or another for 8 years now is a very prudent idea. If it fails to catch on like CD and Better that is it for singles off this album, and if you're going to go down at least do it with something reasonably fresh. His vocals sound kind of whiney on the finish track, and I just don't see rock radio eating it up. Top 40 doesn't play GNR tunes, so I don't know how the song catches a big foothold out there. TWAT would have the best shot at making some headway on rock radio, as it is probably the best guitar song on the album and Axl sounds pretty good.

I actually always thought madagascar could have been a good single were it not for the quotes in the center replaced by a killer guitar solo. In its current form though radio wouldn't touch it, which is a shame considering the song constructed differently probably could have been pretty successful.
