Dj Ashba's Ballad of Death

Are there any songs that Ashba has written by himself and performs by himself which showcase his talents? Not necessarily stuff like Buckethead's albums, but some kick ass rocksongs... Any ideas?

I've heard a few. There's an album he did in about 1996 called Addiction To The Friction, which is all instrumentals showcasing his guitar work. I'm not sure about any other albums, certainly not that I'm aware of, but I've heard songs like "Respect", "Break Everything" and "On The Ground". There's a few others on YouTube, but I'm not sure what the deal with them is, if it's him singing or who else is on the track, if it'll ever be on an album etc.

Hopefully one of the Ashba Chicks can help out.

Yeah I know about that one, but there's other songs he has that has vocals as well. They seem a lot more recent, but I don't think they belong to an album.

"The Ballad Of Death" Is a piece of music that I wrote specifically for the Guns N' Roses Tour.

I got it wrong or what he plays in before sweet child o' mine it's just a piece of the whole song, which he wrote with/for gnr next album.

I got it wrong, didn't I

I think he just means he wrote it for his solo spot during the tour.

I'm going to assume the three of them (Fortus, Ashba and Thal) decided that they were going to do instrumental jams to showcase their talent instead of the usual guitar solo. Fortus has the Bond theme, Ron has the Pink Panther jam, and DJ of course has The Ballad of Death, which he wrote for his own solo spot. I think it's working very well so far. All three jams are awesome, they show the talent of these three guitarists, and they are a lot more exciting than them just standing alone and shredding. I know that was one of the main complaints from many people on the last tour (too many guitar solos) so these are a great compromise and fit well in the set. This is how all rock solos should be done, nothing overly long but just enough to keep the audience entertained and show off some talent.

Actually I think Wonder has a different singer than in the others.

I agree, its working a lot better now that the whole band is playing on the solo spots, the problem with the solos before were that it stopped the momentum, but this way they are keeping the flow more

Indeed. I find that guitar solos and drum solos in general can be a real momentum killer for the crowd. There are some exceptions of course, but often it can hurt the flow of the show.

4tus wrote the new Bond Theme.

DJ wrote Ballad of Death.

And Ron just jams.

pretty cool IMO.

Surely Fortus is "covering" the Bond theme?

And Ron is covering the Pink Panther theme.

I think they just meant that Fortus is the one who arranged this reworked version of the Bond theme. He recorded it for one of the Guitar Hero games.

Nope. I mean wrote the new Bond theme (for the video game, but still a new Bond theme);

The James Bond: Quantum of Solace video game, which is based on the films Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, was released on October 31. For reasons unknown, the game features a different theme song from that of the film, "When Nobody Loves You" written by Guns N' Roses guitarist Richard Fortus and performed by Kerli.

Richard also did a remake of the James Bond theme for the game. That cover version is featured in Guitar Hero IV, which was launched in North America on October 26.
