Give It Up For Axl!

In Chicago the other night, we all knew Axl was having a bad night by the 4th or 5th song of a 30 song set. Obviously he knew before any of us that it was going to be a rough night for him. But he's clearly changed over the past few years.

He didn't quit. He didn't bitch. He didn't say "sorry I'm sick" or make excuses. He didn't give up. He didn't cut the show short.

No, he played a set as long or longer than what he's been playing the past six months. He kept at it and pushed through an epic set that most singers half his age couldn't keep up for half as long.

Give the man some credit. He has come a LONG way these past couple of years. The shows are great, the setlists are incredible (although some spoiled children will never be satisfied), his voice is (for the most part) better than it has been in over 20 years, they're starting at a reasonable hour, he is gracious to the crowds and occasionally stands up for them. Everyone is more than getting their money's worth at these shows.

Call me sappy but I'm fucking proud of our boy and he deserves a fuck load of credit for how hard he has been working lately. Cheers.

You're proud of him for doing something he is SUPPOSED to do?

Debate ended.

He's SUPPOSED to play for 3+ hours every night?

Fuck right off, sir.

And to whoever challenged my history of live shows or knowledge of music/singing/perforning, etc., you just go ahead and think whatever you want.

It's great to see all the positivity other than a few outliers. :xmasssanta:

I agree with the OP! :). We are so quick to criticise when he does something wrong, now he really deserves our praise :). Fantastic concerts lately, fantastic performances. It is a very good time to be a GN'R fan.

EDIT: And could a mod please remove the unnecessary bitching from this thread?

Mods can we please turn this forum into HTGTH2?

A real forum is only vibrant and alive when everybody ONLY posts positive things and everybody ONLY praises the band and other posters. No debate or honest critique is allowed. People are not allowed to have an opinion that disagrees with the Nutters, if so, they are haters and must be banned!!!!!!!

Is this really what this forum is going to turn into? People aren't allowed to be honest - they must just bow down and worship everything that Axl does. Now that would earn the :sleeper: emoticon.

Why don't you start your own thread where you can bitch and complain, if you don't agree with the majority that Axl put down a fantastic performance? People who were there say it was one of the greatest shows ever, but all you do is complain about fanatics...

Wow. You really missed the point that badly?

This is probably too difficult for you to comprehend, but please give it a shot. Maybe take a few days to think about it before responding.

There is a difference between saying it is the greatest show a fan as been to, compared to saying it is the greatest show of all time.

When clowns like you start calling every performance epic and the greatest show ever.....all you are doing is cheapening the shows that really were epic or were potentially all time great.

The OP started off saying that it was obvious Axl was sick. That tells you that the vocals probably weren't as strong as other nights. So the show might have been epic to scooter Jones who was attending his first ever GnR show. But was this show really a contender for the best GnR show of all time? Really?

Funny thing, I'm probably a bigger fan of Axl than you are. And it's because I don't just kiss his ass like you and a couple other people do, no matter what he does. In 2013 Axl could record an album full of nothing but burps and farts for 60 minutes and start doing tours where they play three songs and then take a nap on stage......and you and a couple of the other Nutters would proclaim that 2013 was the best year in GnR history.

Like I said before. Fanatics are just as bad as the people who bash Axl every day on here.

So I'm a fanatic ass-kissing clown that calls every show epic and I'm cheapening the shows that were really epic. Right.

You don't even know me and how I think. Difference between us is that I enjoy what I get, even though it's not as good as usual. I don't over-analyze everything and compare every single performance, and then start complaining.

Don't see why this is upsetting you but hey, think what you want man.

Don't be silly. There's a time and place for everything, criticism included, but this thread is so explicitly about praising Axl for the changes he has done and then it's sad to see people without any finer social skills and fingerspitzgefühl for tact, ruin it.

With all the shows rumoured and announced, 2012 could easily become one of the three most active years in the history of Guns N' Roses in terms of number of songs played live. Hopefully Axl will take all his current positivity, energy and momentum with him into the recording studio afterwards. If so we will be looking back at 2012 as a remarkably active year in the history of GN'R, with lots of interviews turning up, a new website launched with attempts at fan interaction, streamed live shows, fantastic live shows, work on new music, and honor to a former lineup by induction into the ROR HOF. If all this happens, I would then have to say that for the first time this band has become a functional band with (apparently) content band members doing what a band is supposed to do. And GN'R becoming such a band is almost surreal.

The fact that people don´t agree with you or don´t think the same way that you do doesn´t mean that you need to resort to name calling and lacks of respect. Perception is subjective and each one perceives things in a different way. We already know that AXL Rose is a human being and is not perfect (God forbid him for that!!), and some shows are better than others. Some days he sings better and some days he sings worse, some shows are fantastic and some are not so good, so fucking what?.The guy gives the best of him every night whether he is ill or healthy or upset or happy. If you want a perfect performance go listen to a cd but don´t ruin it for those who enjoy those shows.

The first time I attended a GNR show it was not so good but even the most perfect and amazing performance can´t compare to the emotions and happines I felt that night. Even if the show wasn´t perfect I enjoyed the hell out of it. I saw them again some time later and that show was a million times better than my first GNR gig but I still prefer the previous one.

IMO, a show does not only consist on how good the performance is but also on how much you enjoy it.

If you think the last Axl performances have not been good it´s ok, it´s your opinion and is as acceptable as anyone else´s but it doesn´t give you the right to ruin it for those who DO love the shows and enjoy them and don´t think the same you do.

What I'm saying that he is supposed to not quit, bitch, whine, give up, cut it short. Nobody made Axl be a rock star. He could just as easily stayed in Lafayette and be grunting it out in some factory. If he books a show then he is supposed to give it his all.
