im with the smoothie on this, GG was the fuckin man. Yes he was stupid, yes he was mental, yes he was ridiculous, yes he was grotesque but thats sort of the point. And he had a semi-respectable punk rock vocal style in a lot of his early tracks, a really decent sneer, especially on stuff like blowjobs and bite it you scum.

I mean, for better or worse, the guy was never signed to a decent record label, i believe the only other person "signed" to his particular label was Charlie Manson and yet here we are talking about him. I like GG, i think he was fucking mental, i've never ever heard songs that like, advocate pedophillia, THAT is seriously testing boundaries  Or if not pedophilia then lewd and lascivious behaviour with children, thats pretty fuckin' mental.

I'm an admirer of GG, definitely, i like him, the more mental fuckers like him out there the better, goes to show, you can still pull in the numbers through underground channels, you just need a hook.

I LOVE his manifesto, it's the funniest thing i ever read "the sex pistols betrayed me, iggy betrayed me, Sid Vicious betrayed me" Shut up, you tart!

Figures Damn Smoothe would be a fan. It explains a lot actually.

Smoothies one of the best posters around here ;)

Nothing less suspect than a Muslim kid getting grave dirt of an American in the mail.

"I'm a fuckin' fan I tell you! Fuckin' filth!"

His appearance on Jerry Springer (I think it was that) was hilarious. SLAA knows what I'm talking about.

that's definitely more entertaining than axl on kimmel!

well, it's not too difficult to be more entertaining than axl...

the other thing is that gg allin's spectacle of protest is recuperated by springer's spectacle quite easily...

yeah, allin was probably interesting to a certain extent, he's the perfect definition of a train wreck (a way to describe how one can't look away from something that is appalling or disgusting, due to it's bizarre or unusual nature) but his act gets tiresome very fast (just like thomas meadow's or other internet buffoons)...

as you said, he was stupid, the problem is that great artists are never stupid.

I always thought it was somewhat of a job requirement although i'd like to make a distinction between unintelligent and stupid if i may.

i don't share your opinion. it might be a requirement for bad artists, not for the great ones.

in order to be great, an artist needs to understand too many things about his art to afford being stupid (or unintelligent)

I look at him as the end of true punk rock, but it got kind of cartoonish and relying on gimmicks, like he was a punk rock Gallagher, making the talk show rounds. All that post prison stuff he did prob. was good for drawing people to the shows, but you have to wonder what the Murder Junkies thought about how far gone he was. Also take into account they were doing punk rock when it was really unpopular.

I'm sure he'd be one of the few guys who would've said he was jealous of how Dimebag went out, because he wanted to die on stage.

I don't agree he was talentless.

I think what my swarthy foreign friend is trying to say is that stupidity and a lack of intellgence aren't always the same thing. For instance I consider myself to be in possession of a reasonable level of intelligence but I've done some incredibly boneheaded and stupid things in my time.

a painter has to know what's going on in his paintings. if he doesn't understand what he is painting, he is a bad artist.

that's why i'm saying that great artists are never stupid, never unintelligent : great artists must be supremely intelligent.

an example of what i'm saying would be arnold schönberg, he's a perfect example of artistic greatness. he composed music and at the same time he deeply theorized about it in his writings.

I don't agree at all with what you say about "understanding", thats not true at all. Example, Jimi Hendrix didn't really understand music, written down, he didn't understand the component parts, he just had a knack, an instinct, an ear, a natural degree of suss for the instrument, he couldn't explain the shit to you if he tried, would you say that makes him a bad artist? I don't.

I think people deify artists when really, they are people with a talent in one direction or sometimes even a few, this doesn't mean that they are immune from stupidity. Shit, have you read some of their life stories? Dali was possibly the biggest moron i ever heard of.
