There were some claims being made about various band member's personal relationships that we a) have no way of knowing are true and b) shouldn't be discussing in the first place.

This isn't a gossip site, if people want to speculate about band member's personal lives, they'll need to do it somewhere else.

Almost everything we say on this site is incompletely substantiated and much of it makes reference to the band's personal lives & feelings.

While "legal restrictions" would be a convenient excuse, the courtesy of granting a certain degree of privacy to band members (however small) is the reason the posts were removed.

Having said that, what was being posted could easily have amounted to slander as it was being presented as fact... so we were obliged to remove it either way.

I'm gonna leave it alone now, but it's certainly not a general rule that we only discuss personal issues if they are risen by the band.

I'm just worried that appeasing axl for it's own sake contributes to the problem that's crippling progress in gnr.

We think the world of axl and want all success for him. We may also criticise some of the things he does. That's life - for all of us.

Mygnr occupies a unique place in the gnr universe. They cherish free speech, and deserve to reap the rewards - they can see the daily lurkers (like me, usually) they have in their traffic. But they walk a fine line - how could it be admitted that the mods have conceded to keep discussion away from certain aspects of Axl's personal life at his request? Think of the questions that raises for us, the straight members. Think of what it undermines.

There's no reason why I can't answer those questions. We're completely independent, so there's nobody telling me what I can and can't say. The only time I won't comment on something is if we're legally required not to.

There's no list (written or otherwise) of off-limits topics provided by Beta or anyone else. The only people determining that are the staff.

The band member's personal lives are largely off-limits because that's the way it's always been here... In the past removed we've claims that certain members are homosexual, that a certain member was a wife-beating coke head.... and now when people are discussing rumours about the nature of a personal relationship. Does some stuff sometimes slip through? Are we sometimes inconsistent with this? Occasionally yes - but we try to be as consistent as we can. It's just an unfortunate reality of an unpaid position, especially when a lot of the moderating gets done on a mobile phone with other distractions present.

As for the reasons? There's no expectation or even a hope of a bone being thrown. It just feels wrong to allow that stuff to be posted here, plainly and simply.

It's not black and white, so how this gets 'enforced' is largely dependent on the mod online at the time. That leads to inconsistencies. I won't lie about this, all I can say is that we try to be as consistent as we can. There's no hidden agenda or ulterior motive other than wanting to run the site as ethically as we can. If people to see that as getting on a 'high horse', then there's not a lot I can do to change that.

EDIT: and mag, the fact that you haven't been banned should be evidence enough to you that TB has no say in how this place is run.
