Padme
Hi Marc, any idea what happened to that label? In an inteview a few years ago Alan Niven said it was created by Geffen or something like that. What´s the story behind it?Thanks.
TeeJay410
From what I remember it was a fake/vanity label made up by geffen/gn'rs people so that "Live like a suicide" would look like it was an independent release and give the band underground credibility.
Padme
So was it something that in reality never existed?
WFA
Who named it? I'm guessing Slash did the design?
TeeJay410
So was it something that in reality never existed?Well it existed in that it was set up to release Live like a suicide. As far as it being a legit label with other acts, a head, a building and employees, no it did not exist from my understanding.

Padme
Thanks you all. The main reason I was asking about it was that if Axl or any ex member could use it to release albums. So they wouldn´t have to deal with the Jimmy Iovines of the world.
Amish
You can put any album out you want under any label (barring copyright and contract issues) but you have to find a means of distribution and promotion. A major established label can handle distribution and promotion. Axl could create any record label he wanted and release an album under that label (provided he wasn't obligated by contract to any other label) but he would have to spend his own money and find a way to distribute it and promote it, unless he found some other company to handle that. So, he'd be back at square one. It's not about needing a name to release something under. It's about the millions you need to get it out there and make it noticed. dalsh327
Artists having a vanity label can be a good thing if they sign an artist that winds up having hits, which was the case with Bad Company and Eminem. Trent Reznor had Nothing Records, which was still under Interscope so it's not avoiding the Iovines (or David Geffens) of the world. Supposedly Axl was producing Mank Rage after Paul Tobias left, but I don't know how true that is.
