Most photos of Slash off-stage, he's wearing a backwards baseball cap, or sometimes a beanie. So the top hat doesn't bother me, it's iconic. I am curious how it's attached, though. I believe it's a combination of hat foam, which you line the inside with then attach clips which keeps it really secure.
