It's not a massive, over the top production like Legacy Of The Beast was. It is also a setlist that's heavily geared towards diehards, and thus maybe not one where demand necessitates another European run. Even the North American leg for next year, while more than I expected for this tour, is considerably shorter than usual. In other news (But along the same lines) - Brazil added, and seemingly it's only a single date in São Paulo. Very odd. I’m thinking of trying to align my anual company-paid visit to my family in Brazil with the newly added Sao Paulo date. 1 Quote
Powerage5 Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 That sounds like a fantastic idea if you can make it work. Seeing Maiden in Latin America is something really special. I’ll be heading down there myself for the Bogota show (And hopefully one more city TBA before that ) 1 Quote
Powerage5 Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 Highlights from Wacken 2023 streamed today. Stranger In A Strange Land, The Writing On The Wall, Days Of Future Past, Can I Play With Madness, and Wasted Years were shown. https://www.magentamusik.de/iron-maiden-woa-konzert-vod 1 Quote
James Bond Posted September 16 Posted September 16 I've been on the fence about going next month. Really want to see this show/setlist, but I worry that Nicko is going to be distracting. I love the guy. He had really worked himself back to commendable shape by the end of the last run. Despite everything, he sounded good and really did his best. However, none of the recent clips have been sounding too great. I can live with some skipped fills and general simplification, but this is rough. Quote
Cosmo Posted October 4 Posted October 4 Won't be able to go to the Sao Paulo gig, which is a huge shame, as I think this tour's set is simply amazing, but bought tickets to the Run To The Hills tour in Paris, next year. Setlist probably won't be as cool as the current tour, but I'm hoping for Hallowed Be Thy Name, Rime of the Ancient Mariner, maybe something off NPFTD like Tailgunner or BYDTTS, let's see. Quote
SlashisGOD Posted October 4 Posted October 4 Can’t wait to see them in Pittsburgh next month. I love this setlist and from videos I’ve seen, the band sounds incredible. Quote
evilfacelessturtle Posted October 4 Posted October 4 Nicko is certainly skipping a lot of parts in that video, but I will give him credit, his tempo is still pretty solid. Quote

I did the full Japanese tour and he was consistently poorer than last year. There were some songs on some nights that he really just ended up playing a classic 4 beat, which stands out like a sore thumb compared to his usual groove on some songs. That said, the rest of the band sounds great at the moment - Adrian especially. The setlist is so, so strong and many of these songs will never be played again. My personal advice would be to accept Nicko is not up to par, but get a ticket and go in knowing that. Ultimately I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. 1 Quote

Resale tickets are currently still a bit more than I want to pay, but I'm checking daily. I genuinely wonder what the move is going forward. If this is where Nicko is at currently he'll be keeling over by the end of the 2026 dates. It's just sad to see him struggling. Quote

I still need my Toronto tickets also, so my eyes are open. You’re happy with face value? I wonder that also. On one hand I don’t want to see any of them not go out on their own terms, but on the other…it is sad to see. Nicko has always been such a talented drummer, it’s tough to see him struggle through so many of the songs (In a setlist that, let’s be honest, from a drumming perspective is not that taxing). Makes me wonder how he’ll fare on some of the stuff not being played this tour. We know Phantom Of The Opera and Run To The Hills will be played next tour and I can see both being a big issue. He doesn’t do the 16th note hi-hat groove in Wasted Years anymore, RTTH will kill him. Quote

This is why I'm considering the 6 hours of driving to see them on this tour. Saw the show last year and CSIT, and Alexander made me incredibly emotional for the fact that I never expected to hear either of them live. Issue is that drive would be on a work night before a 12 hour work day... 1 Quote

I think I saw as low as $190 for lower bowl at some point. Currently it's just resale and Platinum. That's what I wonder too. I also noticed he's doing less hi-hat stuff in general on this run, let alone any of the sixteenths stuff. The Prisoner intro sounds really weird with his new take on it with the ride. Last year he was really grooving on it. I'm torn between not wanting to see them go out on a whimper on the drum front but also wanting it to sound as good as possible. Fill in drummer with Nicko playing a couple songs each night? I'm not sure what the answer is. Quote

Joe Lazarus (Son of the former head of Maiden’s fan club, and drummer for the cover band Hi-On Maiden) is generally regarded as an unofficial understudy to Nicko. I think he’s quite good at capturing the essence of Nicko’s style but it can come off a little too carbon-copy-ish sometimes. That said, he is quite a good drummer. There’s loads of videos of him on YoyTube playing Maiden songs: Quote

I agree that it's so close that it comes across as perhaps somewhat stiff, but he definitely gets the essence of how Nicko plays. So many drummers just machine gun everything with Maiden covers. Joe's got the groove. 1 Quote

He does some of the obvious ones like Flight of Icarus or Hallowed, but also some really good deep cuts. I remember seeing one of him doing Purgatory at one point. 1 Quote
Powerage5 Posted November 3 Posted November 3 Got to hang out with @Mansin Humanity last night at the Brooklyn gig, that was a fun time! Quote
evilfacelessturtle Posted November 3 Posted November 3 If they're gonna bring on a carbon copy of anybody, it should be a copy of Clive Burr. Quote

Powerage5 Posted November 10 Posted November 10 I think you two are the only ones from MyGNR I’ve been to a Maiden gig with. The first time I met @Amir was the day of a Maiden gig but I don’t think we hung together at the gig? Last night in Newark had probably the coolest moment of the whole tour, outside of the live debut of Alexander The Great. Bruce came out and started the show wearing the original Somewhere In Time jacket. It didn’t light up anymore, and he said it was the only time he was gonna do it because of how fragile it is now. But it was crazy coo lot see him wear arguably his most iconic stage outfit once again 😁 2 Quote

We hung out before and after the show in 2013 but we we went to the 2017 gig together (that was the one where I was gutted that GNR played TWAT the same night in Dublin ). 1 Quote

That’s right! Those 2017 London gigs are a little fuzzy for me since I was suffering from a cracked rib a few nights earlier Quote
