Zint
Great songs on this album such as:Back In The SaddleI know everyone has an opinion so I hope I don't sound like an asshole when I say this but "Back in the Saddle" is probably the #1 reason why I absolutely HATE Aerosmith.Yeah, I know somebody who is absolutely anoyed by that song, they dont like the "Im Back in the saddle again, Im BAAAAAAAAAAAACK!!!!I dont get it, the song kicks assThat reminded me of the first time I saw them in '77.The stage was completely covered by a black curtain, the sides too...it was the first time I'd ever seen that,it was uncommon at the time. The lights went down, and the p.a. was blaring a sample from (I think,I'll have to check) Kings and Queens.THEN...you could hear the beginning of Back In The Saddle, the boys were behind the curtain playing the intro. It built up and built up....then the curtain dropped, and there was Stephen centre stage wailing...I'M BAAAAAAAAACK!!!!It was amazing...one of my all time fav concert moments, ever! ronaldo9
20-Dec-06Tom Checks In: Mohegan Sun and NYCWell I got sprung for a couple of days last week and got to do some stuff with the band finally. You've probably heard about the NASCAR thing. In case you haven't, they're going to use a modified “Back in the Saddle” for their theme music for next season. Along with the song they asked us to do a video of us performing the new version. Who wouldn't. Well we ain't Who so we would!! The band did the main shoot at a show in Las Vegas at the beginning of November. I wasn't in shape to do it yet so the producers generously offered to do another shoot later in the Month at a gig at a really cool place called Mohegan Sun. It's a giant hotel/casino/arena complex on the Mohegan Reservation in Connecticut. The arena is about a ten thousand seater with awesome acoustics and, best of all, great dressing rooms.Doing my part a month later worked really well for me. I have to say, the recovery phase of the chemo and radiation is pretty slow but that month made a big difference.I got to the gig early and shot a take right around when we would usually do a sound check. They only needed Steven and I so it went quick. As a matter of fact they got what they needed with that one take. Later on we would put Saddle in the set and film that too. So the plan was to put Saddle early in the set so the band would look fresh and un-sweaty. I would come out for that song and then split until close to the end of the show when I would come prancing out and play the last four or five songs including “Sweet Emotion.” It was kind of fun to have people look at me with concern and try to make sure that I wasn't taking on too much after my long ordeal. The night went really well and was over in like a second. I almost felt cheated. It's a good thing I had my New York trip to look forward to.About a week later we all met in New York for a special show at a place called the Beacon Theater which is a small theater with a balcony. It reminded me of a gig we did in New York centuries before when we were looking for a manager who could get us a record deal. That's an old story that you've probably heard a hundred times before. I'm sure you'll be hearing about it a hundred more but not right now. It was a big day for me because it would be my first full show since all the cancer stuff. The cancer's gone by the way. I had a P.E.T. scan about a week or two before and it showed that the tumor and the cells in the adjacent lymph gland were gone. I never really experienced the disease but the treatment is something I hope I never have to experience again. It truly sucked.I think the band might have been a little apprehensive about me playing a whole show and being right up to speed. After all, those guys had been out grinding away for three months. I knew I was good to go and I hope the show that night proved it. I had a great time as did everybody else. It was an amazing feeling and made me reflect on why I've wanted to do this so bad ever since I was in Junior High School. After New York I had to say goodbye to everybody. I still have doctor stuff to take care of. As good as I feel I'm not quite 100% yet so I had to head home while everybody else headed out to finish the tour. What an odd feeling. You'd think I'd be kind of used to it but I'm not. Every day I'm aware of those guys being out there on the road with me not there. I can feel the pull. It really makes me look forward to our European tour we're planning for next spring. We haven't been there in over ten years so it's going to be an awesome experience. Book your flights now!THAeroforceoneI'm glad to hear everything's okay with Tom now. Cancer can be a scary thing. You Europeans are going to have a great time next spring with the tour. KBear
I just bought Rocks. At the same time I got the first Aerosmith album (the self-titled one) and also a Cinderalla greatest hits. I am really looking forward to this album. I've heard so many great things about it. I know two songs off it, Last Child and Back in the Saddle, and if that's a sign of things to come then I know this will be one of my favourite albums of all time.Btw, the I'm BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK part is pretty much the best part of the song. pain cake
Steven Tyler is a fantastic singer and showman and Joe Perry made some of the greatest riffs ever. The only thing wrong with aerosmith is that THEIR LYRICS ARE FUCKING SHOCKING!Classic example: Walk This Way, obviously one of their top 3 most succesful songs, amazing riff, great chorus. But the lyrics are absolute rubbish! eg.seesaw swingin' with the boys in the school and your feet flyin' up in the air singin' "hey diddle diddle" with your kitty in the middle of the swing like you didn't care so I took a big chance at the high school dance with a missy who was ready to play Sometimes they pulled off some good lyrics, like Dream on, Mama Kin and Janies got a Gun. But most of it was rubbish. But yes, rocks is a great album, when I bought it I instantly liked all their songs and listened to it repeatedly and got over it very soon, my favourite song on it would have to be Sick as a Dog - just the way he saysPLEAAAAASSSSEEEEEAlso, if there was any justice in the world, Self Titled would have been their breakthrough album - its by far their best. ~~~ BECaUSE LaTElY, It'S BeEN SO hArd tO MAkE EnDs MEeeeEt YeAh-Ea-Eah. Haha, well, I don't really know any of their songs, except for Don't Know What You Got Till It's Gone, which is an okay song I guess. So you can't really call me a fan. I just thought I'd check out some of their stuff since I hear so much about them and I sort of dig that kind of music (when it's done well). That's my excuse anyway. For example, "Pink" is about a woman's clitoris ("it's the color of pleasure" or however it goes). He's great at writing really dirty songs and disguising them as being very innocent in nature. Most girls who love the song "Pink" have no clue what it's actually about.

Lyrics don't have to be serious and shit to be "great.I think lyrics like "Gettin' bugged drivin' up and down the same old strip, gotta find a new place where the kids are hip" from the Beach Boys' "I Get Around" are pretty good, regardless of how serious or emotional they are.Aerosmith's lyrics are pure genius. Just because it's about sex and silly doesn't mean it's bad. Some say SMiLE is too silly to be compared to Pet Sounds, but to me the former is greater.See, with Aerosmith even when the lyrics are silly (as on "Lord of the Thighs"):Well, well, Lordie my God,What do we got here? She's flashin' 'cross the floor,Make it perfectly clear. You're the bait, and you're the hook,Someone 'bound to take a look.I'm your man, child. Lord of the Thighs. They're not BAD they're just silly, and funny. I think those lyrics are far greater than when sex lyrics are done BAD like "Anything Goes", or "Girls Girls Girls". You've just helped me realize why "Anything Goes" isn't what it should be.The band is amazing on it, maybe the best grooves on the album, but Axl ruins it! Otherwise it would have been one of GNR's best!
