Just yesterday I was reading a book about the Stones. Pretty good. I read this one chapter about a gig the Stones played in 1969 near San Francisco. It was called Altamont. It was music festival with a bunch of bands. It ending up being a near riot when the Hell Angels started beating and stabbing people.

There's a documentary film called "Gimme Shelter" about the concert and the events leading up to it, including the stabbing death of Meredith Hunter at the hands of a Hell's Angel. It's considered to be one of the best documentaries ever.

I like some of their songs and I know theyre great, but I dont know where to start, they have so many CDs. What should I get first?

Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers or Exile On Main Street and you won't be dissapointed.

Really anything from that period, I agree.

I wouldn't suggest starting with Exile,if you're looking to check out the Stones...that's not a good starting point for the novice fan.Exile is an aquired taste.

Let It Bleed or Sticky Fingers for sure..even Beggar's Banquet.

Perhaps even start with a collection like 40 Licks.

But don't start with Exile...get your feet wet before you jump in the deep end. ;)

but hey...that's just my opinion
