Hey guys, just wondering if any of you have met Axl and if so what is he like? Also, do you think Axl or GN'R would ever do any in store autographs at a record store? There is a cool record store on Sunset called Amoeba Music in LA that I know would love to have them.

I have met him twice.

Once was at an in store, this was a good 6 months before Appetite broke big.

It would never happen now, In stores are not for bands as big as GNR.

The other time was on Melrose in Hollywood.

An old restaurant called "The Burger That Ate L.A.", I was walkin' by and he was sitting on the patio all by himself.

It was late, and I always assumed he had pulled a rock star, and was eating a little after closing, just to be by himself. (it was the mid 90's, and he was still very famous)

I did not want to bother him, I said Hi, Axl said hello, and I continued on my way.

I had the pleasure of meeting Axl recently, he is not what most would believe, he is very friendly, outgoing, gracious, happy, hilarious. A real pleasure to be around, everyone in the band and around them were wonderful. I did not feel like I had to be anyone else but myself, he is one cool cat.

Justin

You can´t imagine how much i envy you man ...

I never understand why people feel the need to take pictures with celebrities; as if they need proof that they met the person or something. It's not like seeing a grizzly bear or bald eagle.

:rofl-lol:

Agree, I´ve met several celebrities in the past and never took a pic. I prefer just talk a bit to them and ask questions, but never take a picture.

Anyway, I can understand people taking pics as a proof of their meet and to show them proudly, not my case anyway

the picture thing can also be just for memoires and your own personal collection or some, not everybody takes them to proof that they met the people

I saw a guy that looked just like him in a water park 4 years ago...

oh, and I met him in January

it was different from what I expected, for some reason I thought it'd be like floating on a cloud or something but he was just so down to earth and funny! his stories were very great! and it felt very comfortable.. one of the coolest people I've met by far, and I'm not just saying that because of what he's done and is doing because he still would be if I hadn't had any idea who he was..

I met Axl in early 2001. I was a blackjack dealer at Treasure Island. It was the first time Axl had ever been in that casino (he told me). He was alone, casually dressed, and very unassuming. He sat at my empty game, and at first, I wasn't even sure it was him. I asked if he wanted to track his play, so he gave up his I.D. He was soft spoken, didn't curse, or smoke, and drank Sprite. I got to spend 40 minutes with him until I went on break. During that time, he told me about the upcoming release of C.D., and the ensuing tour.

He'd told me about the picture of the bike with the huge basket on it that he was going to use on the album cover. In my mind, I thought it would be on the handlebars...oh well. He also told me about Buckethead signing his contract on the haunted house ride at Disney Land. He said the original title of the album was going to be Chinese Communism, or something like that, but then he thought that wouldn't work, and changed it to Chinese Democracy. He was excited about the song too.

I don't know why he felt so comfortable talking to me; at the time, I wasn't even a fan, which had to be obvious by the stupid questions I asked him; "Is your name really Axl?" lol He spoke about after the money was gone, the friends were gone, the women were gone, and he was starting over again, only this time alone; the original band was gone too.

Before that night, the only thing I knew of Axl Rose was the ugly picture VH1 had painted of him. The man I met was down to earth, and humble. "Nice boys don't play rock n roll," but, "I know you better! "

Good, Bad, or Ugly, I'm a Guns N Roses fan, and an even bigger Axl Rose fan.

I haven't read the other posts yet, but this for me this would be perfect.

not to be OT, i met Ted Nugent at a gas station in the chicagoland area once. I asked if it was him, he denied it. I did shake his hand and got a clear view of his face, i immediately went to googled him. It was him, turns out he grew up in Arlington Heights, IL, about 3 miles from where I saw him. Probably here for family and didn't want to be bothered. He was nice nonetheless.

wait you left out the most important thing. Was Axl up or down when you left the table? how much did he tip when you dealt him 21? Does he split 10's vs. a King?

I believe when I left the game he was about even. It's been a lot of years, and as I said I wasn't a fan, so I don't remember what he tipped, but he did tip, or I would have remembered that. Anyone who works for tips, remembers the ones who don't. He also tipped the cocktail waitress who brought him his Sprite. As for splitting 10's, no dealer worth their salt would allow anyone to split 10's, unless the count was high, and the dealer had a 7 or less (for you card counters). I was teaching him basic strategy, and he was taking my advice.

Wow, that's a really cool story. Thanks for sharing!

It's gotta be somewhat of a relief at times for a celebrity or musician or whatever to talk to someone who only has a vague knowledge of who they are. It seems like Axl felt comfortable because you weren't hounding him about the album or pressing him about details from the old days or anything like that, and that's really cool. Good on ya, man

Very cool thread! It was nice reading all the stories, thanks to all for sharing.

By the way, I keep reading about how nice Axl is when you meet him in person, and that a lot of people seem surprised by this. Really? Why is it surprising? Because he's known to have a temper? I'm sure that's the way it goes: If you treat him nicely, he will return the favor. However, if you are being disrespectful, he won't be impressed and will react accordingly. Pretty simple! That's the way most of us behave anyway. I know he's famous, but he's also a human being. ;)

Guest floyd the barber

I'd love to meet him. He is my favorite singer.

Everyone says that he's a nice guy and all, but why does he act like a jackass on the computer? He paints himself a terrible picture sometimes, he's very controversial, but he's one of my idols all the same so I would love to meet him.

from what I know, most people that meet/have met him:

1. met him before he become a huge icon in the biz

2. met him at a planned after party or small social event.

I gained coveted passes to go back stage prior to the last auburn hills show, learned alot about how things go....there are many many levels of passes and only the super elite ones really allow you access to the back back back backstage area.....we saw him prior to the show when he was in preparation mode. didn't meet him, but imagine that it is impossible to get close prior to the show, he was maybe 20 feet away, glanced at us, but he was focused, he had this laser like intensity, he was getting in the spriit to rip the house apart. not many can muster the balls to get up on stage cold....you must start the fire so that it is blazing wildly when you hit that stage. It was cool to see how intense he was.

I was just grateful to have gotten that opportunity.....gave me a whole new appreciation for the magnitude of the behind the scenes, what it takes to put on a show, and the number of people involved. the logistics of it all fascinates me.

Shook his hand in Tampa, but that was it.

haha.........acting like shaking his hand is "it"...........maybe next time he'll give you a kiss then you'd have something to say. something to be impressed with. most of the people on here....if they shook his hand......they'd be able to at least write three paragraphs about it. lol.

lucky you! congrats.

see i can even write more about someone else's story. maybe I just don't know when to shut the fuck up.

Me and my friends met AXL and the band in 2006.

We are from Israel and went to 3 shows in 2006: budapest, prague and poland.

After the concert in prague we met some girls who asked us if we want to come with them to some after party.

we took the offer and came with them.

they are local and took us with them and we were just searchin this place with the "after party"

after 40 mins of walking we finally found it and then we recognized Ron Thal with his red hat outside the place.

we were running straight to him , with a big smile and took some pictures with him.

then we talked with him for a 30 mins i guess, about how we love GNR and all the other fans in Israel.

he told us that he is jewish and his real name is Ron Blumenthal and that his parents took him to Israel on 1982 i think on his "BAR MITZVA".

we talke about our contry and stuff and then he took us deep into the club and Dizzy just came down from the restrooms.

we took some pictures with Dizzy and talked with him for a few seconds.

after 1 hour Axl came with Del james and 2 other guys and we shook his hand and telling him we came all the way from Israel for those shows.

he went inside some VIP area , smoked some big cigar and danced with some czech chics that looked like a models or somthing with his "snake" dance to a hip hop music and he just knew all the words for all the songs that been playing there. it was very weird...

then i was just sitting and starin' at Axl and he saw it and i just called him to come to me.

he came and all my english just disapeared. i told him that he just dont have a clue how many times he saved my life with his music and that all of us suppurting and love the new band.

he's been appologizing for the delays in the concert in budapest and was very friendly.

he told me that he believes in Israel and shook my hand again and bowed me too.

i was thanking him for all those years and his special music and then he went inside the VIP area again.

i was shocked from this meeting with my idol and went outside to take some fresh air.

outside Del james was standing and smoking , i talked with him for 2 mins and then big black transit car came and Sebastian bach with his band came out.

i was shouting to him : "yo buzz dude !!! whats up man?" and he luaghed and gave me a hug.

we took some pictures with him and his big polish guitar player and then danced with him and talked for 30 mins.

he and Axl danced together and sharing the brown cigar and it was amazing.

we met Tommy that wasnt so friendly and Brain too that was ok with us.

at 6.00 in the morning , Axl and all the rest left the place we shook his hand on the last time and they wlaked into the black bus and thats the whole story.
