Popular Post GivenToFly
This is mainly an experiment for me, trying to learn how to do some stuff. It's difficult to keep myself motivated in learning something new if it's just a bland generic "Hello world" type of course - it's a lot easier to learn while putting together a project that i have a personal interest in. So I made an explorable (you can move, zoom, click) map of where GNR have played in the past. I got the data by scraping the website Setlist.fm so it has some gaps in places, as well as some mistakes (I'm aware of some wrong coordinates, faulty data entries etc but I can't be bothered to check and fix all this crap manually). Here it is: https://arlinconio.shinyapps.io/gnr_setlistfm_mapped/ You can set a date range and it will show you all the places they've played in that range. Size of the circle is based on the number of shows. Cities and their coordinates are defined by setlist.fm so any mistakes are theirs (yes, I'm aware Leeds is not in Kent). You can click on any city marker and view the shows, each linked to its page on setlist.fm. (It's not particularly pretty, I know, but I'm focusing on functionality for now and hopefully I'll learn more about playing aesthetics in time. Again, I'm just learning this stuff as I go.)
