  1. He's wrong anyway. I saw the album preformed live in its entirety on that last tour that Cornell did. I only knew 3-4 songs, the rest I had never heard once before. And it still blew me away. I like the album, but they are a whole different beast live. No comparison.

I have only heard Scream's live performance. It is quite unreal:

Hopefully, as you said, the rest of the album does indeed carry itself live in such a manner.

IMO Scream and Long Gone are the only good tracks...

And yeah, they sound better live with an organic band. On the studio track, Cornell plays guitar, and everything else is programmed.

You don't find 'Ground Zero' the least bit enticing? It's a damn fantastic, soulful track:

Though, I do appreciate the fact that you have listened to the album in its entirety and have constructed your opinion based on that instead of just slagging the whole thing off within seconds of listening to one, sole track.

  3. Why did you unregister before? I missed you after you left.

I can never stay in one place for too long I'm afraid. I try to keep things interesting.

In Cornells defence from people who don't like Timbaland, the new songs translate well on to the stage with a full band behind them...

    No they don't

Why would you even contradict the previous poster without even supporting your claim?

    Seems idiotic to me.

  4. Take the Peter Frampton allusion as an example. Besides, this thread isn't about 'Love Lockdown'. It's about his performance on 'Heartless'. You're clearly showing bias. Though, that is to be expected (not personal).

Are you referring to Frampton's talk box?

    That's a guitar effect.

If it fails,Frampton can still sing on key.

It's not masking a lack of vocal skills...it's enhancing a guitar solo.

You just proved my argument right. That's where the allusion layed.

'Autotune' is not used by Kanye to mask a lack of vocal skills (though like I've said before, he's not a great singer); it's used for its 'electronic vibe'.

In the same vein, guitar effects are not used to mask a guitar player's 'lack of abilities' but rather as an atmospheric tool. This is also applied to Kanye's use of 'Autotune'.

It's a gimmick. It's an effect. He's not trying to cover up anything. People already know he lacks certain vocal abilities. It's there to create a specific sound.

Though, that does not take away from his performances. Not at all.

  5. Ok he's a fucking singer, you can't blame AUTOTUNE not working for a bad performance. He should just fucking sing, and if the songs are any good, they should be good without the added effects. Like I said, it's a crutch he hides behind. He and all his fans will just blame poor performances of mediocre songs on "technical difficulties" (he could have just sang on key and made it a good performance).

He's a douche and I don't respect him or his "talent" (or lack thereof).

Try flaming me, it won't change my opinion.

Actually, he's a rapper. He's experimenting by singing. 'Autotune' is his newest gimmick. Without it, these songs just don't work as well. Take the Peter Frampton allusion as an example. Besides, this thread isn't about 'Love Lockdown'. It's about his performance on 'Heartless'. You're clearly showing bias. Though, that is to be expected (not personal).

  6. You could make the same autotone argument against Axl. Don't go down that road.

It should be noted that Kanye is using autotone as an effect as much as he needs it for his voice. I can't say for sure, but it sounds to me like he sings calculatedly off-key to get the effect from the autotone, but when it breaks down, he's left singing off key without the desired effect. That's just my guess.

I still really like the performance of Heartless. To see what Love Lockdown is really like live, check out his performances either from Kimmel or Ellen. Both were great, especially the Ellen one.

You think he sings off key on purpose to get that effect? You're brain washed.

Umm, no, it makes perfect sense. When using an audio-processor you apply that distorted, electronic feel to your voice by singing slightly out of tune. Kanye is not the best singer around. He knows that. Though, that is not why he uses this technique. Here, it's obviously used in an aesthetic sense. Kanye has gotten into electronic music heavily (since his duet w/Daft Punk) and has since found a liking to a compressed type of sound juxtaposed with more organic elements.

What better way to control these electronic elements than by applying them to your own voice (something controlled by the self)?

Besides, I find it hard to believe that you've read a significant amount of his lyrics considering you called him a 'talentless' writer. Can you honestly compound a legitimate opinion based on what you've read/ heard?

    I would say no.

    Moreover, "Pinocchio Story" is awesome.

  7. In no particular order (with the exception of the first two songs)...

    Master of Puppets #1

    Battery *#2

    Fuel

    The Memory Remains

    The Unforgiven

    I Disappear

    Welcome Home (Sanitarium)

    Seek & Destroy

    Mama Said

    One

  8. There's been a bunch of threads over the years on what the criteria is to become a mod - and you exceed all of them Montrealer, so this little 'promotion' makes perfect sense. PLUS, you're a nice guy too, which is a bonus.

    Congrats!!

Plus, he sure is a hottie.

    Hah.

For real though, congratulations Mont-boy! I completely agree with Eric's decision.

  9. Hah, whoa, I never thought I'd be doing this. Fuckin' insane I tell ya.

Anyways, I have one quick question Axl (may seem random).

How on earth did you learn to control your rasp? Before Appetite came out, you sounded like Robert Plant. Afterwards, your voice became so rough! And recently it seems like you've learned to switch between those two styles. Are you using more of your head-voice now, eh?

  10. I realise I'm super late to the party and this thread will make me desperately uncool...

But does anyone else think the first single is just completely boss? There's nothing else on the radio that sounds anything like this. The beats are fucking incredible and combine with the vocal melody so well. I love the tribal drums throughout the song, too.

How's the rest of the album.

It's a fuckin' awesome song. Musically, Kanye is very unpredictable. I like that.
