If Freddie Mercury came back from the dead and collaborated with Guns N' Roses, how quickly/slowly do you think that track would be finished and released to the public?

This is kinda why I’m disappointed that Axl didn’t get the chance to record with AC/DC. Because he would have actually done it. And it would have been smashing. More importantly though, he would have little to no say on delaying any release.

Their biggest fan doesn't know any of their new stuff? :rofl-lol:

I'm so excited to be seeing them next month, it's great that they're playing so many new songs. They just debuted Carry Me Home last night, which is one of the best songs on their new album.

The only issue with RHCP shows is that they play for about 1 hour 45 minutes... they could easily just do a greatest hits set, which is probably what most people at a stadium show expect, but it's nice to see a real band at that level changing their setlist every night and continuing to debut new songs.

I can’t imagine being a big Chili Peppers fan based solely on their pre-Californication releases as they made some terrible albums. Even Blood Sugar Sex Magic is highly overrated compared to what they do now. The point is, with the Chili Peppers, their “old stuff” really sucks and it’s a completely different sound altogether.

Re the songs: in 2006 Axl said 32 songs were chosen and 26 were done and ready to go. in 2008 we had 14 on CD. since then we've had HS and Aburd. plus OMG. that's 17. that leaves 15 songs as of 2006 that Axl had wanted to release and hasn't. So we can assume there are 15 songs that we do not have officially released that are full with vocals. Assuming he hasn't written or recorded a single new original song with vocals since 2006.

Re not releasing them: He's obviously a fucking nutcase. people spend years pontificating over 'insecurities' or 'not the right time' or 'can't sing them live' (LOL) or 'lineup changes' or 'pandemics' - all of that is utter BS. There is no explanation. hence why it hasn't been explained ever by anyone. Axl changes his story about when and why music is or isnt being released. We know it’s a bare minimum of 15 ready to go. Best not to worry about why he's destroyed his post 1993 legacy.

By the time CD was finished there were 26 completed tracks. 14 of those completed tracks were released in 2008 obviously. This left 12 tracks, OMG was likely one of those 12, so was Silkworms/Absurd, and likely so was Going Down, and so was Jackie Chan/Hardskool. This leaves 8 tracks. Of those 8 tracks we can assume Atlas, Perhaps, & The General were probably vocally complete. This leave 5 tracks: Eye On You, State Of Grace and 3 others. Obviously I’m assuming EOY & SOG have been completed beyond what we know.

Duff and Slash will both be on this release “coming soon.”

As well as the previously mentioned Ian Hunter record.

They stay busy. Just so people don’t get wishful thinking that during the band’s touring hiatus, they’d all get together to record Guns N’ Roses music.

I think Slash has been as candid as he can regarding the new material. Whatever might be released prior to the band writing and recording completely new material or repurposing other tracks Slash and Duff haven’t worked on yet, must have already been completed. Maybe they are doing some “finishing touches” on some of those reworked songs Slash was referring to?

Anyone expecting an album of songs this year is setting themselves up for another round of GNR style disappointment. Let’s just hope a couple of those finished tracks surface at some point. Though I wouldn’t put any stock in that happening. Something obviously caused Axl to change course once again.

nope! the only thing that's obvious is that you don't actually know anything when it comes to exactly how much unreleased Gn'R material there is currently in "the vault", just like the rest of us.

maybe Axl will decide to release a single, maybe an album, or maybe nothing at all but we do know that there is an album's worth of unreleased material, the pre-reunion version at the very least.

I know what the rest of us know in regards to how much completed music we have ready for release, Slash told us. Axl certainly isn’t going to release an album with Slash and Duff on half the tracks coupled with older recordings without them entirely. Especially given the fact that he even said they haven’t even started recording new material.

He really should use whats left in the studio now. The Chinese stuff is done already.

I wish he would record new stuff NOW, time's running out for new GNR music if he won't change his style of singing.

Whatever we get next, if we get much of anything, will come from the past. But who knows, he may surprise us sometime in the not so distant future(though I’m doubtful). Axl’s vocals don’t necessarily disintegrate in a linear fashion. He has ups and downs along the way. But certainly, he needs to sing in a more comfortable, more natural register if he is to continue moving forward with touring.

  7. At least the show isn’t an echo chamber, I’m just not that interested in his interviews in general. I find Stern more entertaining, or so at least he used to be. I’m not sure Axl would be up for spending that kind of time with anyone in any interview setting much less Joe Rogan.

Something I just realized. Last year Slash said they might release singles two at a time to later be collected on an album. Now he’s saying they only recorded (maybe) 6 songs, clearly not enough for an album. I wonder what he initially meant. Maybe he expects the hypothetical album to mix both old and newly penned tracks?

Everyone’s definition of an “album” is different. For example, TB are under the impression an “album” has already been released and the prophecy fulfilled. Slash may have been referring to an EP, or like you said, old and new.

You have 4 albums including CD. 1. AFD 2. UYI I 3. UYI II 4. CD. Not sure there's anything to be gained from losing one AND if we were losing one wouldn't the better choice be to make UYI I & II a single record 😉 if we're saying controversial things😄

Honestly, I listen to TSI more than I do CD. When I listen to CD era tracks I listen to the demo’s and several live versions from pre-CD’s release. The album versions of most tracks just don’t work for me unfortunately.

That RIR 2001 version of “The Blues” with Axl being visibly angry towards one of the sound techs I consider the single greatest, most haunting piece of CD era music Axl has ever performed.

The big difference is these bands have ridiculous amounts of material to tap into….GNR doesn’t. We know there is stuff that will arrive….as per usual it’s a case of when.

Maybe I’m delusional but a new GNR record marketed correctly could still be an ‘event’.

That’s kind of the limiting factor of being a GNR fan, I mean in reality we have 4 full albums worth of material across 3 albums and one EP. Not counting CD of course. It would be nice to have one more solid effort.

Certainly I’m not expecting anything on the magnitude of Appetite, Lies or the Illusions, but just something where there are a handful of tracks I want to listen to….

interesting post cause how is it clear to you that "he covets"? to what end? a lot of dreamed up scenarios that you've clumsingly made up it seems. How do you know the reasons for why Axl didn't record new vocals or how he's feeling or what he likes? you do this often?

When you’ve been following a person for the greater portion of your life and have been privy to nearly everything they have said or done, you get a fairly good understanding of certain nuances in their personality.

Certainly, it’s my personal take on things, I think everyone in the forum comprehends this. No one knows with any certainty, but we are left to ponder and hypothesize. Outside of this, we are left with little else to discuss. The lack of transparency and follow through from GNR are one of the great mysteries of the universe.

Axl didnt even bother laying down any new vocal parts, overdubs, nothing. And the producer cut/copied scrap parts to fill the songs.

I doubt Axl cares at all and these leftovers were just given to slash/duff to get them off his back about recording new material.

Axl didn’t lay down new vocals for two reasons: one being he simply didn’t have the ability to synchronize his current vocal ability to the efforts made all those years ago, secondly he felt the vocals were more than sufficient, which when you think about it, was really the case. The vocal quality didn’t ruin either song.

Axl likes to come off as not caring, but it’s clear to me that he covets the GNR name. Based on the name alone he expected more from the public, he really felt HS would be better received. I believe Absurd was released as a barrier to divide the criticism verses the acclaim. Unfortunately there was no acclaim, and frankly not much criticism either in the case of Absurd. They were both essentially overlooked.

I do agree with your statement regarding getting Slash and Duff off his back. I think that played into it as well, but in a less hostile fashion. That’s why I suggested it was a test run. I believe Slash may have in some ways “assured” Axl that the tune will catch on and they can use that as a gauge and move on from there. I think that’s where it all ended..

How can he have expected more out of HS when the band members weren't allowed to mention it and promotion was banned. I've never seen this kind of release model but come on Axl, it's fucking bizarre.

Sorry, of course. The official Instagram account mentioned it by saying Are you ready for Hard f'n Skool? That was it. The promo.

Your sentiments as well as JimiRose are both in line with reality. However, it’s become more apparent to me that Axl will NEVER promote anything GNR related ever again in his life. Expect more of the same for whatever may come next.

I really believe Axl was expecting more out of HS just because it sounded more like the GNR people have come to recognize. I believe it was a test to see if more tracks from the CD era given the Slash & Duff makeover, were worth putting out.

I believe the results speak for themselves, hence the lack of any further follow through on more tracks. I don’t buy into this notion that Axl doesn’t care and isn’t bothered regardless since he released Absurd. But there was a obviously a more deep rooted reason for Axl to do so.

    Due for 2045 release

I’m starting to think no music is coming. 2008 to 2023 is no different than 1993 to 2008. But it’s even worse because there’s no plans

Obviously the lack of any excitement or traction after the release of HS kinda took the wind out of Axl’s sails. I think he expected much more out of it and a more positive response in general.

This may have been the final nail in the coffin. Though I do believe Axl will release a few more tracks, albeit very begrudgingly, prior to the next series of tours. But this may in fact be the very last music that’s ever released by GNR, at least by traditional standards.
