It’s stupid isn’t it? There are 4 months there that they could all be working on a new guns album, but Slash said they’ll wait to do that after their next tour.

I’m not sure Axl could realistically handle the rigors of recording during this window of opportunity, even if he records with his characteristic “one line at a time” recording style.

If anything, this is a perfect time to finalize the recordings that have been completed thus far and any additional “finishing touches” that are deemed necessary.

Of course like the rest of you, I believe absolutely nothing GNR related will be worked on or materialize as a result of this time away from touring. Having said that, I believe we will get some “new” tracks prior to the next round of touring, or somewhere around the start.

All you have to do is look at the last 25 years, if not the fact that right now in real-time they’re stalling on the rest of the EP stuff, that Axl just doesn’t enjoy the process of handing over and releasing music. He just doesn’t.

And I agree, Slash must know this. Saying he wants to record a proper GNR album eventually sounds better than saying the shows and whatever Chi Dem era singles Axl feels like releasing, or not, are it. Even if it’s the truth.

In TB’s mind the “album” already happened. The release of HS, Absurd, Don’t Cry & You’re Crazy EP last year.

As far as releasing more singles/EP’s go, at some point Axl will have to throw us a few bones, but that’ll probably be it for a long long while.

I remember the hype on the forum for Rio, expecting something new. Nothing has really changed.

2011 is the Gnr turning point though, Axl lost whatever creativity he had left and just thought fuck it, we're a touring nostalgia act now. Let's make some money.

Considering he has ceased referencing any new album some time ago, I think that’s where Axl wants to be. Insofar as the the rest of the band go, I’m sure Axl is in a way mollycoddling them: “sure we will start working on that new album once we stop touring”…..

All this talk about Axl recording absolutely no vocals 2000-2008 is pretty odd. What about the Sebastian Bach’s Angel Down sessions..he did three songs with him in one day just like that..

It’s not that he recorded no vocals, obviously he recorded some vocals. I’ve mentioned the Angel Down recordings somewhere in this thread as a reason why there are recordings after 1999/2000. Even Pele accepted this fact as tangible evidence of recordings beyond the CD sessions.

The lack of new music is the result of a lack OF new music, completed music. It’s really that simple. Ron knew it, Ashba knew, and Slash knows it. If you read carefully through past news articles and snippets of info, as well as Facebook posts from previous members (unfortunately Ron deleted most of it)it paints a similar picture as to what’s been happening.

Tommy said Axl recorded vocals every year he was in the band, and that was a very long time. (Late '90s to 2014 or whatever)

Most of the Village leaks came from 2000, and there were some songs in that batch that were not on CD that had completed vocals, and others with incomplete vocals. I highly doubt that Axl didn't record additional vocal tracks from that time to 2014. We know since those Village leaks, he recorded vocals for Better and Sorry. I'm certain there are many others. Members here heard new songs playing during the 2010 Vienna afterparty, and not just Silkworms and The General. I have no doubt Axl had enough material recorded for a two disc 2008 release.

Listen, logically there should be other songs with completed vocals, logically but I’m not convinced there is as much material as you think.

At some point we all come to certain realizations when we think about past occurrences, dissect what prior band members have said and formulate conclusions based on everything we find relevant that we have been privy to.

My conclusion is that Axl has been reluctant to record vocals over these decades and would only do so “in fits and starts”, under optimal conditions when few were around to witness the recordings.

There may be tons of instrumentals, some very complex and brilliant (Marco Beltrami), there are probably scratch vocals and vocal takes that went nowhere. There are lots of ideas, but likely not too many good recordings that can be made into songs.

You believe these tracks are sitting somewhere in a near completed state, vocals and all. I believe the problems stems from the lack of vocals. I hope I’m wrong, either way the results may be the same…..

and also Tommy said it was supposed to be more than 1 cd. The leaks having an influence on the tracklist is very possible, but maybe in addition, the record company was against the release of a double album and it's possible that Axl has changed his mind without any influence about what made it to CD (maybe more than once)

The second CD was not released for several reasons, most importantly because it was never completed. Axl simply didn’t lay down the vocals and many tracks were and most likely still are in instrumental form.

If anyone still communicates with Ron, you may want to ask him for yourselves how much of the music he heard or had access to doing those final CD sessions had vocals.

The leaks determined the CD tracklist and you know it.

Really, if the album was supposed to have the best songs from the CD sessions, Hardschool and SOG could've replaced Shackler's, Scraped and/or Rhiad. What we've heard of The General and Soul Monster (assuming Me & My Elvis is an early instrumental) is pretty great too.

None of this matters anymore. What matters is how much of the remaining material did Slash and Duff work on. This is also assuming there are completed vocals beyond the leaks which many of us doubt.

Based on what we do know, these songs amount to a handful of tracks, two of which have been officially released. I’m not in any way convinced there are more than what I can count on one hand…

This thread is approaching 1000 pages now. I'm thinking in the new year we close it and start a new one (as we've done in the past with the social media thread when they became very large).

    Any major objections to this?

Perhaps over the xmas period we could have a new thread title competition (winner gets to start new thread?)

If most people like the idea I will start a separate thread in a week or so for title entries and you can all unleash your wit/bad puns etc.

This thread ends the day GNR release an album, in any capacity.

it would kinda suck if it was released again, I think it's a great song but better to get something we don't have an official version of for more than 20 years but something is better than nothing I suppose .

I agree, I’m so good with the 1999 version. But when Axl has a fixation on an old song we get Absurd. When GNR superfans hold out hope for some epic new track, we get a Slashified OMG…

  10. 2 minutes ago, Rovim said:

not a hint of new music but Absurd was a thing fairly quickly so you never know imho. Oh My God could be a brand new song.

Axl recorded multiple vocal arrangements for OMG, there is even a recording with alternate and or other lyrics. It’s completely possible that the newer version is something entirely new. Axl has a very close attachment to this song for whatever reasons.

Why are we talking OMG as the next single now, are there any hints?

I would believe that it would be too lazy and embarrassing even for GnR to put out an already officialy released song as the next single when Metallica, Chili Peppers and every other big band does proper albums again and again.

It likely won’t be the next single it just may be attached to the next release, I’ll assume the release will be Atlas.

If I’m Slash I feel this way for two seconds and get my $10 million dollar check and then don’t give a shit.

I agree with this point until there’s a moment where things boil over. It only takes one wrong look, one snide remark to cause Axl to go completely off the rails. It doesn’t take much for this thing to end.

I had a dream GN'R released an EP with 6-8 songs on it. It included The General, Soul Monster, etc. but was missing many of the other songs we have heard or heard about that have yet to be officially released. I specifically remember Zodiac 13 not being on it and wondering what form the remaining songs will take, or if they will be assembled into an actual album.

Dream? More like a delusion. I wonder how much longer before OMG and Atlas get released, cause we probably aren’t getting much more than that any time in the future.

Did you make those "observations" while on medication?

I don’t take any medication. I think that the worse thing that can happen to the band at this point is going into any sort of real recording session, the kind that Slash suggested might possibly maybe take place after next years touring concludes. Basically it won’t amount to much and it may be the end of this current relationship. In some ways, I think Axl knows this.

That's my point. Lots of americans still didn't get it that their brainless love for guns is killing their own people. But as long as subhumans like Ted Cruz still think that unlocked doors are responsible for killings in their school, this country will never change. There's no other country with so many shootings but these idiots still don't get it. A lost society

Yeap, guns are the problem. Not the 60 IQ individuals shooting them off….

If that's what you look forward to, then you'll be disappointed. It's not going to happen.

I’m glad you were able to travel into the future. But, looking at the past, I can make certain observations and conclusions and I conclude the band will implode. There will be a power struggle that will be the end of GNR.

And this is the kinda thing this forum does best. A show is announced  so we assume a new song will be played or released around the time of the show. Then of course when it doesn't happen we say "fuck this band... When's the next show, they wouldn't play it on the opening night due to *insert excuse*". Next show comes and nothing happens. 3rd show thread ends up being 4 pages long.

Gets to the end of the tour and again, based on nothing, we expect a new song. If the show falls after the upcoming Friday we assume it'll be released at midnight. There'll be a big countdown thread based on nothing then we criticise the band for not following through on literally nothing.

Then the last show of the tour happens and nothing exciting happens.

But wait! A month later, a show for the following year is announced! Surely 2024 will be the year we get, by that point a 25 year old Axl vocal track that some fans wouldn't have even been born when the vox were recorded.

But we'll still be here because we love it secretly. They have such a weird hold over us.

This band will implode soon enough. And I look forward to it….

  18. Metallica and GNR aren’t even in the same league. Go to a Metallica show and you’ll find out how much more enjoyable it is. GNR’s entire legacy is built around Appetite & the Illusions.

Axl in my views is simply too incapable of adequately recording new vocals. I honestly believe he may be too self conscious to even begin going through the process. I venture to guess that much of what he recorded after the CD sessions was done alone.
