The stage is setup on the wide side of the stadium, so i guess the crowds are getting smaller and smaller.Probably maximum 40k ppl tonight.Axl's weak voice and the lack of new music are having an affect on the ticket sales.Soon, GN'R will only be playing in max 12k seats arenas.
Ummm, didn't they play for like 80k two nights ago in Munich?

You weren’t at the gig and never met the reviewer. Thank you for your baseless, uninformed take. Inner Turmoil indeed.
Quote of the day.No, I wasn't at the gig (as I readily stated) but I did READ the spite filled review replete with utterly unnecessary insults...HENCE my JUSTIFIED observation about personal, biased animus (in part) informing the review. And I agree, that IS a good quote of the day! Thanks for chiming in, buddy!

Reviews by their very nature are not unbiased. It is a person's opinion of the art they are witnessing. Calm the fuck down. The person went to the show and thought it all sounded like shit. That was their opinion. And inner turmoil? What the fuck do you know about this person to claim the review is tainted by "inner turmoil?" Jesus. Some people on this forum and others sound like they are in a cult.
Stop projecting your OWN BLATANT inner turmoil on me, you fucking nutjob

Guns N 'Roses kills the festival atmosphere

MUSIC
SWEDEN ROCK Mercyful Fate's satanic sermon the night before was certainly a cautious prelude.
It will be Guns N 'Roses that spread the biggest fear at the festival.
Guns N 'Roses
Location: Festival Stage. Audience:Really small with people. It has probably never been so sparse before a main act on Sweden Rock. Duration: Three hours. That's about three hours too much. Best: You can not complain about "I wanna be your dog", maybe because Axl Rose does not sing. Even "Knockin 'on heaven's door" and "Coma" actually sound quite okay. Worst: The rest. Question: Does the band themselves think it sounds good?
NORWAY. Guns N 'Roses need no further presentation. However, the members are in desperate need of their own watches. Someone has to teach Americans the clock and how to keep time.
Their debut at Sweden Rock twelve years ago immediately went to the Rock and Roll Hall of Shame. Axl Rose & co was almost an hour late and was met by burop from a wet and disappointed audience.
It was not a question of whether they would be delayed this time, but by how much .
30 minutes is the right answer.
Just over half an hour after the scheduled time, Duff McKagan and Slash enter the stage and stand next to the Ukrainian flag. Then Axl Rose and the rest of the band stroll in.
The reception is fishy.
In front of him, the band has a crowd of people who are more reminiscent of a dead school of fish than a peppy audience.
However, the pulsating rhythms in "Welcome to the jungle" excite the people around me. The energy that arises temporarily certainly opens up a temporary portal to a parallel universe.
Maybe one where Axl Rose still sings well. Because he does not do that in this world.
During "Chinese democracy", "Welcome to the jungle" and "Hard school" I get such anxiety that my intestines get tangled up like a rat king (image google it if you dare).
It therefore feels like a godsend when McKagan takes over the song in The Stooges cover "I wanna be your dog".
And there will be more covers, of course, because Guns N 'Roses plays in what feels like an eternity.
Not only are they delayed - they also take over by 30 minutes. And no one in the band seems to take any notice that the audience is thinning out for each song.
There will thus be no revenge since the last time.
It feels more like you are participating in a game of Russian roulette. With constant fear that the next song will be the one that extinguishes the spark of life.
It's basically only during "Knockin 'on heaven's door", "I wanna be your dog" and "Coma" that I do not want Saint Per to pick me up and let me in through the pearl gate.
When "Paradise city" subsides and the concert hell is finally over, it undeniably feels like I have ended up in paradise.
This is ANYTHING but an objective, unbiased review. This reviewer is projecting their own inner turmoil on the band and it's not only quite obvious, but it's also sad. I'm not saying you have to have loved the show or that it is without legitimate criticism (I don't know, I wasn't there), but this is ABSURD, indeed.

I'm no expert on the current state of the music industry nor on the best ways to release new material, but I think the idea that 'the landscape has changed SO much that a traditional release just won't do' theory is a bit overblown. There is no reason why, if it existed, a great video for a fantastic new single couldn't be released, followed by lots of promotion on various platforms, followed by an album release. In fact, that is what I want! The untraditionally released HardSKool and Absurd vids on Youtube have a pittance of views. Goddammit, I just want a new damn album done right where most of the material is new and unheard prior to release. Call me crazy!

Am I crazy to think the mix on this version sounds better than the one previously released?

I saw November floated by some fan who said they had some inside info... I don't know, it seems unlikely, but not impossible. Biggest question from me is why go to to effort of a physical release of Hard Skool if you're releasing a full album in November. Clearly people are interested in rounding out their GNR collections, and maybe the EP is a very limited release? outside of that I feel like it's a waste of time.... especially when it receives zero promotion.
Also, why double release HardSkool and Absurd on an EP and THEN on an album? Just seems unnecessarily redundant and anticlimactic.

Just tuning in: can someone PLEASE give me a brief synopsis of what exactly is going on, in layman's terms?

Just a guess: H S is on a future album, Absurd is not. So if you want Absurd on a physical release this EP is what you need to get.
If one has to be on a future album, I'd def prefer Hard Skool. However, I just don't think they'd release this EP and THEN include them again on another album

I’m afraid this is the future album
Doubt it. I think they took two old songs and juiced them up as something for the fans for now. I see the EP as a stand alone thing, while they work on and, aspire to, release a single and then an album.
-
Does this mean that it's unlikely that either Absurd or Hark Skool will be included on a future album? If that is, in fact, the case, I'm heartened by this. First off, I already own these songs. Also, it seems to kinda verify my theory that this was really something for the fans and not really meant to be official singles nor representative of the best of what's to come.

Yes, multiple tracks. I say multiple meaning more than at least 5 that were mentioned to me (no I don’t know names and I wouldn’t say if I did). There are 100% new songs finished and waiting to be released. The album/EP was ready to go before COVID. Regarding the songs heard, his overall consensus was “meh” and after hearing what they did with Absurd and this most recent one, I totally understand where he’s coming from. I’ll never be able to get the “yeah, but do you really?” line he used on me when I said I wanted to hear new music. No way in hell anything is going to come close to what was released 30 years ago.
I’m starting to believe it will be 99% leftovers with the majority of the parts overworked by Slash and Duff but I’m hoping for something completely new with this lineup. I was originally told there were a few all new tracks, mostly Slash ideas, that were recorded but that remains to be seen.
This band never ceases to amaze me. I am still confident, as is my buddy that we will see a full release via EP or a full album (or both) by years end. Everyone is getting along and that’s pretty obvious so let’s see what happens. Sorry to anyone if I’m repeating myself from previous posts.
Whom are you referring to in this post? Would love to hear some details without having to go through the entire thread. Are you saying that an insider heard some post CD era new material and wasn't a big fan?

Yea, this isn't that good. The best part of this song is the somewhat catchy chorus and it's been compromised by layered vocals and overproduction. Also, there's way too long of an instrumental lull after the second chorus, which kills whatever momentum the song might have had. Granted, I've only listened to it once and am confident it will get better upon repeated listens (which I will inevitably engage in because I'm a diehard fan)- which is more of a chance than most casual listeners will give it. Yup, it's better than 'Absurd,' but that isn't saying much. I REALLY hope these are just stand alone downloads meant as something fun for the fans and A) aren't indicative of the best that they have in the vault and B) won't be included on any future releases.
-
Ummm, wouldn't you guys want the first official video/single to be something way better than 'Hard School?' I mean, it's kinda good, but that's all. Assuming Axl doesn't overproduce the shit out of it, I'm sure Slash and Duff's contributions will make it, like, 30% better but STILL. I don't know what to expect. I just don't want old ass material (that differs significantly from classic GNR) getting pushed out there.

Like maybe telling people to "go fuck themselves" for disagreeing that GNR are the best live band in the world?
Or is that respectful?
My bad. Fuck off. Better?

18 minutes ago, allwaystired said:"No rock band in the world can hold a candle to this band live"? Oh, come off it! Sure you had a good time and that's great, but that's a ridiculous thing to say when you think of some of the bands out there and the shows they do. Crazy.
Or perhaps it's you that needs to "get off your ass" and see a few more rock shows? Because most people here, I would imagine, have been to a vast selection and have seen what other bands do live. It's not a case of "naysaying" at all...it's a case of calling shitty performances what they are when they happen.
I mean, I'm in a GNR high at the moment, with the new song, but I really REALLY haven't seen them be passionate in a while. Which is why everyone is so excited at new material rather than playing the old standards and hoping they get some passion back......which they certainly do look bored by. And who can blame them?
Go fuck yourself

My review:
I was there with my 72 year old mom. She was absolutely blown away by the passion and overall performance. She LOVED Slash's guitar playing and thought Axl looked and sounded fantastic. The crowd ABSOLUTELY loved the show and it exceeded even my expectations. Whatever Axl lacked in stamina and power at times (vocally) didn't take away from the performance and was really not even noticed by the crowd. He's still an amazing frontman and NO ROCK BAND IN THE WORLD can hold a candle to this band live, STILL. 'Absurd' actually impressed me live but the vital potency has been subdued by the overproduced recorded version. I HOPE that release is simply something fun for the fans for the new tour and is not highly indicative of what's to come on a new album (Slash and Duff adding parts to Axl's sub par decade's old material). My highlights: Sweet Child, It's so Easy, Knocking on Heaven's door, November Rain. The whole concert was fucking great and Axl is only going to get stronger as the tour progresses. He is at least 15-20lbs lighter than he was in 2016. All you naysayers need to get your asses off this website more often and go walk in the sun. Peace and love!

Def a very well structured, catchy song whose guitar solo reveals itself to be coherent after multiple listens. It's also well positioned on the album
