  1. My favorite Nightrain is from AM Ring 2006.

Axl and band included just completely nailed it.

I know BBF done some shredding in the final solo but he keep it close to the original with BBF own style added in, but not too much and it was fucking great!!!!

I'll be the first to say that BBF in the first several shows of that tour done way to much shedding and kind of lost the GNR style the song had but once he hit his stride he really done some really good playing.

  2. I think the 1988 VMA performance of WTTJ in one of the best live WTTJ of all time.

That badass scream at the front, the energy they had will little audience interaction, but that was normal for the VMAs back then.

The way he sung the first half of the song was amazing, I think he did fuck up his voice toward the end but it was still great.

I hate how the WTTJ opening scream or howl has been done really since parts of the UYI tour, trading the opening scream to doing the scream at the of the line your gonna dieeeeeeeeee I guess call me out fashion about that.

    Tell me what you think.

  3. Jason Macmaster is a great vocalist, I love the first 3 Dangerous Toys albums.

For those that say CD was a failure, There was no way in 2008 that CD was going to sell 10 million copies.

Back in 87-94 anyone could have one good song and a video for it and sell 1-3 million copies, it didn't matter is the rest of the album was shit as long as that one song was on there.

So it is unfair to compare albums sales from the 87-94 GNR era to CD release in 2008.

Back then you didn't have hardly any leaked tracks and you had to buy a cd because you just couldn't burn one, yes you could make a cassette copy but with CD's being so new everyone wanted it on CD.

In 2008 basically the whole album leaked before it was released and was downloaded like crazy.

CD did sell what around 3 million copies, it may be less or more but my point is other huge bands are in that same boat take Metallica they will only sell 4-5 million copies and that is a far cry from the late 80's and early 90's

Do I think CD was a failure no because I liked it, I will consed that it did fall short on what it could have sold, but that being at the end of the day I am a fan and I like CD. I though CD was sell around the 4-5 million mark.

  4. I just don't get Slash when it comes to the ballads they made. He hated SCOM but it made him a guitar god.

He said he hate Don't Cry, NR and Estranged but those songs along with SCOM mad him what he is today, which he is still considered a guitar god.

He will be most remembered by those 4 songs and the bad ass solo's he put on them.

I think the real reason he hated NR and Estranged was Axl's piano work, l really think it scared him that it might take away some of his thunder and he really didn't understand piano how to play piano and how it works and for the most part Axl wrote these songs. Yes everyone kicked in a thing or two but they where Axl's babies. I think why the solos are so good on these two songs is the piano work pushed Slash to have a bad ass solo.

So what it boils down too is Slash putting down the songs and video of the trilogy and SCOM that made him what he is today.

Coma was Slashs baby and Slashes work on that song pushed Axl to have some bad ass lyrics and singing still to compete with Slash.

Competition is not a bad thing, alot of times that is when your best comes out.

But in GNR's case they had 2 huge ass egos and if they can't comprise they will and did fall apart. Just take the Rolling Stones and the riff with Kieth and Mick both with huge egos at the time of the split and when they got back together it stated in both of there contracts they did want see each other in the studio. But for the Rolling Stones it was all about money.

    Great comment and input :)

I think he does this because he needs to shut down the voices that still talk to him about GNR. HE moved forward. That's what he makes clear every time he has a chance. He's repeated over and over that GNR is his past and he doesn't even consider it a huge thing (in his own world, of course). So in order to not be asked about GNR anymore he has started bashing the popular songs, the "cheesy ones", which coincidentally happened to be written by Axl and are about Axl's romances.

He hates his music has transcended due to these ballads and not Coma, for example.... I understand him and some days I'd prefer Coma all the way over Nov Rain and Don't Cry, but boy, Coma is a heavy shitload and people, normal people, regular people, at the end of a hard day just wanna melt down and listen to a sweet ballad. Sorry Slash :/

I totally agree Coma is better than the ballads, hell I think it is the best song GNR has ever done!!!!

But those of us who get the song and it's personal meaning it brings with it, for me anyway, someone else may get something totally different out of it.

Slash done a great job on the guitar work and Axl equaled it with awesome lyrics and delivery of those lyrics. Again though they 2 huge egos worked together I wish they could had held on to that and GNR would never had broken up. Don't get me wrong I like the new bands but that is the only way you can get GNR, it is what it is.

  5. I just don't get Slash when it comes to the ballads they made. He hated SCOM but it made him a guitar god.

  6. Super Bowl is just around the corner!

Read yesterday the the NFL is going to try and charge artists a fee to play the half time show or they are going to take a percentage of sales whether it be album sales, itunes or touring sales for a set amount of time after the Super Bowl.

There reasoning is the artists are getting free advertising by playing the half time show for the millions watching. They broke down the amount of time the half time show is on which is usually around 8-9 minutes which is 18, 30sec commercial slot which is $4 million times 18= $72 million dollars for the 9 minute performance. They actual put that in the article, my numbers may not be exact but they are close to what I read.

They are not going to ask that amount to play the half time show but they want money up front and/or a percentage of the performers sales after the Super Bowl for a set amount of time

They want a half time show so why should the artists pay.

The NFL doesn't pay the artist for the half time show now, which I think is fair given the exposure but to make them pay for something the NFL wants is insane.

I am sure the amount of viewers for half time show is not even close to those who are watching the game and commercials during it.

  7. To me during the 2006 tour Axl sounded better and was more consistent than another tour they have even done from 87-now.

The version of Nightrain the video shows from AM Ring is IMHO the best version live of Nightrain.

Also IMHO the AM Ring show is right up there in the top 5 best shows that GNR have ever put on. Axl was on fire that night and so was the band, BBF solo at the end of Nightrain was awesome he made that song into his own that night by that I mean he keep with the traditional guitar work and put his own twisted to it which worked really well.

    I know some will disagree...

I was around when GNR came out and seen them 7 times from 87-92 Didn't get a chance to go in 93 and have seen New GNR 4 times.

  9. Those artist are a bit different because they don't do many side projects at all and as I said it could all be just to fuck with us. Why wouldn't they if they wanted to they take shit posts after shit posts about them here on a daily basis. Could just be a bit of pay back.

There is NO official announcement from anyone and the two things people are picking apart can mean 2 different things but those here always focus on the negative and take nothing more than assumptions and run with them like wild fire.

I still say BBF is in if there is a GNR to return to and until we get an official word BBF is in IMHO. There was nothing official with the statement he made and also posting his service years in GNR on his facebook or whatever.

  10. I understand folks drawing the conclusion that BBF is out by him saying "When I was in GNR" and him showing on Facebook being in GNR from 2006-2014.

But really it is still a very vague statement.

I could just mean that he didn't work on his solo stuff like he wanted to while doing his gig with GNR. Which GNR is on cruise control at the moment right now with nothing concrete happening anytime soon and for right now his is a going to work on his solo stuff, clinics and what have you with GNR on a long lay off for a set amount time instead of giving them the usual be close to the phone we could go out at a moments notice.

I really think he is still in GNR if there is a GNR to return too????? Which is could be a possibility with any one of 2 things that could happen it could be Axl retiring or something even more doubtful a reunion, which I think is pretty much impossible. I don't think either will happen but that is the only way BBF is out.

Consider this it could be Axl and BBF having some fun with the fans during the GNR down time because folks hear always bitch and moan when they have no news and when there is news or something vague taken out of context people here still bitch and moan but it is about something.

This is just pure speculation just like everyone one else is doing here.

  11. I really hope Ron is NOT leaving.

He will be almost impossible to replace. He can do the shredding and the more bluesy stuff without effort, he interacts with the fans on many levels, backstage, meet and greets, webcast, twitter, ect.....

It would me insane and very long process for Axl to find someone that can fill those shoes, other than a full out reunion it just can't be done.

I am not saying no one could replace him as a guitarist but if you package his guitar work and what he does for the fans together, it just ain't going to happen.

IMHO DJ should be dropped and have Ron on lead and Richard on rhythm, with a few songs he does the solo work and that would be a very good combination and the job could be handles very by both.

I do understand if Ron leaves due to personal or lack of progress toward SOMETHING new, maybe not a new album but throwing the fans and the band for that matter a bone by playing something know one has heard written by the current line up or from the CD sessions.

  12. I noticed on all the pro shot shows especially since DJ has been in the band that BBF is rarely shown even when he does a solo. It also happened when Robin was in the band but nothing like since DJ has come on board.

It my cut to him for a few seconds and then off to something else and it will show DJ just basically playing rhythm guitar for a long time.

Hell you see more of Frank than you do BBF.

To me BBF is the LEAD guitarist in GNR and should get more face time. When he is doing the shredding type solos on the CD material the producer should show his work.

I know DJ is more appealing to the ladies and has a bigger following but damn give credit where credit is due.

I for one do not like DJ's guitar work in GNR, outside of GNR I look at it different but I am not a big fan of Sixx AM either.

I know there were rumors of BBF leaving which I believe to be false at this time........

I wish DJ was leaving and Axl give most of the lead guitar work to BBF and give Richard a spot here and there but basically have BBF on lead and Richard on rhythm.

BBF is more than capable of play anything in the GNR catalog he has proven that time and time again, no he doesn't sound just like Slash but he isn't Slash he is BBF so his own style is going to show in some of the old stuff.

You take Estranged he can pretty much nail that beast every time and plays it live better than Slash ever did. Not dogging on Slash at all, just expressing my take on there performances of the song.

  13. Noticed the tread about the past few weeks sales numbers for the AF Dem. video sales which is about 6-7 thousand copies if I remember right.

It made me think even now in 2014 if they released the Ritz 88 show unedited, full length and having it digitally remastered for best video and sound quality what would sell in 2 weeks time?

I am talking by remastering it just to clean the sound up some and the video quality alot but not recording anything.

I would guess it would sell 20,000 or more copies in two weeks and that maybe conservative.

Because to alot of people that is what GNR was and in there minds that is what they will always be, it is just a fact.

Do I like the Ritz show yes, do I think it is a great show no they have played much better shows with both the old and new band.

  14. The OP review or whatever was fairly harsh about the UYI Albums.

    1. The UYI songs where NOT GNR songs for the most part they what each person wanted to put out in there on style.

    2. One thing I can't stand about Slash looking back at the UYI albums is he always says the solos on the ballads he hated them and hates them to this day. Well Slash the solos on the ballads from UYI made you the millionaire you today and you will never top them the same goes for SCOM he has said many times he hates that solo work also. Hmmmm...... You hate something that made you huge amounts of money and world wide notoriety, I think he says this because these songs where not his ideas or babies and had to rely on Axl to achieve what he did and the feeling is most likely mutual for Axl about the same thing.

    3. UYI as a single release was just too big and I am sure the band, management and the record company thought the same thing after GNR Lies sold a huge amount of copies that we need to cash in as much as we can because people will buy anything we put out. Making a double release made everyone happy because they got there own songs on the albums and kept the peace in GNR land for quite some time.

    4. Izzy I don't think was ever to keen on releasing a new GNR album because he just didn't like to tour and he damn sure didn't want to tour for 2-3 years. He can blame Axl and the lyrics being taken literally but he just didn't want to havea grind of a long tour and put up with people he didn't know anymore. He never wanted GNR to be bigger than life but that is what happened and he couldn't handle it and stepped out. I respect that, he helped them out when gilby broke his hand.

    5. Axl was a hot head with some issues he would only uncover and/or come to terms with later in life.

    6. Slash and Duff where too fucked up on drugs to run GNR and Axl wasn't drugged up so he got the job, I think it is that simple, because with the record company having this arrangement GNR would go on with or without Slash and Duff. But that really didn't go very smooth for many reasons that are well known and many that we will never know.

    7. Poor Steven drugs just took over his live and when I look at the drumming on UYI I don't think he could have played at that level not that it was so complex but he played every simple drum lines and that was it and UYI was more Complex I just don't think drugs or not that he would have been in the band when the recording was finished.

It could go on and on.

But the UYI albums are from a fragmented band that didn't have a common goal that was anywhere close to what the others where thinking when it come to what the albums should sound like.

  15. I have been watching several shows from the 2006 tour and couldn't help but remember all the bitching everyone was doing. If it wasn't the braids, Axl being fat, possible chemical peal, mickey mouse voice from time to time and BBF trying to find his groove in he band and him trying to not shred too much on the old songs especially early in the tour.

2006 was the last time Axl looked like a bad ass rock star. I didn't mind the braids at all hell he had had them since 2002 at least.

Mickey Mouse vocals where there more often early in the tour but even then he sounded great and later in the tour he sounded bad ass with almost no mickey mouse.

BBF found his place pretty quickly and was in very good form from the middle to the end of the tour.

Axl being fat, he wasn't he was in the best shape of his life since the UYI tours.

Rasp it was there and it had power to spare and he had great lungs for those shows he could hold the notes for a very long time.

So in looking back do you look at it different than you did back in 2006?

Even at the time I thought this was Axl at his best and the band sounded extremely tight and for that matter since that time it has not been the same as far as Axl goes the band still sound pretty good but even 2009 and 2010 he used why too much rasp and not enough singing much like the UYI tour.

But he was 8 years younger than he is now so I don't expect him to be able to regain this form. His singing is most likely murder on his vocal cords and even though it is only 8 years removed he is over 50 now and things don't bounce back like they use too.

  16. I could see BBF giving Axl and ultimatum about him staying only if this or that happens with band and Camp GNR giving him notice of up and coming plans so he can keep his obligations as far as his own touring.

I just think BBF is that type of guy. I think he will only put up with certain things for so long and then either blow up and clear the air or say I am tired of endless touring and give false hope about new material.

Deep down Axl knows he needs BBF. He is the best rounded guitar player he has worked with from 1994 or so on. BBF will take the time to talk with the fans, due webcasts, chats, twitter, do meet and greets, talk to the media and so on and lets not forget he is a bad ass guitar player, he can shred or he can get pretty damn bluesy with his guitar work also. He is the only member that has been able to do both playing styles and not sound like he is half assing it. Yes he does add his own flare to the songs but if he wanted to he could play the complete GNR catalog note for note better that anyone that has ever been in the band. It would be a huge loose to GNR if he left I don't think GNR could find a replacement with all those qualities in one.

But with Axl being Axl I could also see him say fuck off, have a nice life. But I really don't think that will happen.

BBF is one of a kind and I hope he hangs around!!!!

  17. Lots of people getting on Axl's ass about telling his "manager" that we are doing this, and that he is being childish about it. I don't see it.

But these same people will bitch if he doesn't do it. For fucks sake folks!!

This little photo op is something HE wanted to do and she wasn't going to stop him, he told her to just manage it, which she is suppose to do.

As far as being on time for the show hell it is bright daylight outside, I really don't think Axl was going to be on stage for 8 hours or more.

I really wish Axl would cut ties with TB and go with a really management team.

But to do so he would have loosen up a lot and by that I mean open to new things, get serious about getting the old CD stuff out or new material from the band he has now.

As BBF said I wish he would just bundle all the CD stuff together and sell it in a box set and the only reason he would do it is to satisfy the hardcore fans.

I think this lineup has really been cemented in peoples minds that go to the shows that GNR is this bunch of guys and that is what they want to see from a Nu GNR stand point.

I know the casual and alot of hardcore fans want a reunion but it doesn't look any better for it than it did 10+ years ago, I never say never but this is one of the .001111% chance sort of things and even if they did reunite I don't think there is a huge market for it, not because of what this or that person done at most it might sell 10% better per show than they do now.

Most on this forum that are holding there breathe for a reunion think it would be like 92 again and they would be on top of the world and RNR pile but the demand isn't there. If they put out a new album just after the tour started it would be doomed must like CD because neither album would live up to the hype.
