That's a fun line-up if you enjoy 80's hard rock. I wonder how Axl feels about sharing the stage with washed-up, high generation, lineups of Quiet Riot, Queensryche, and RATT? Granted GNR is now in its 10th(?) generation, he isn't in a place to gripe.
Hopefully, Queensryche will perform The Needle Lies in honor of Mr. Rose.As many know, Axl used to warm up to that song in '88-'89.

I wasn't sure whether or not to tag you, but it was your recording of SOYL I was listening to. Thanks again for sharing it. Has the full show been posted?
Houston was arguably the best show on the tour and was considered 'miles better' than a lot of those 2016 shows, but Arlington was really good too.
I still need to finish tracking the ACL #2 gig. I have a mastered 16-44 version from our friend, Limulus. I was planning to track the Austin 10-11-19 recording this weekend. However, I have been sick (allergies, I hope) and not in the mood to do much of anything that requires concentration. I also want to include liner notes that roast the current state of GNR. I need to be at/near 100% to do that.
For the record, I don't think I have listened to a single song from the Houston 2016 gig. I was bummed to have missed it. I remember being at my home on the night of the show, taking care of my ailing family member, and thinking, how much better could the Houston gig possibly be than the Arlington show I just caught?!? I woke up on August 6th to see fans all over the forum praising the Houston gig like it was the second coming of the August 3rd, 1991 LA Forum show. Oh well, life goes on. -

@Lies They Tell he's screaming on SOYL, but it doesn't sound like his AC/DC voice.... unless you mean when his voice started cracking on Hell's Bells, Thunderstruck, etc.
I don't listen to every single performance so maybe the one I just listened to was an off night (ACL weekend 2) but I'll put it this way: he's screamed his way through the 'So full of anger...' part in Better too, but it doesn't sound nearly as good as the AC/DC songs. Just because he's screaming doesn't mean it's gonna sound as great as Back In Black. SOYL is a lot more comparable to the bridge in Better than AC/DC tunes...
Is there another audio recording of ACL weekend 2 floating around? I noticed that someone mentioned the Arlington, TX 2016 was a strong performance from Axl. However, back in 2016 people said the Houston gig was miles better. How much better could the Houston gig have possibly been? I had a sixth row ticket to the Houston gig, but couldn't make it due to a family emergency. I did attend and tape the Arlington 2016 show. I was in row 5(?) on the lower level section nearest the stage. Great show! Far superior to the turd in a punch bowl ACL # 2 gig I caught last weekend.

The greed of this band, charging $1000, is still barely conceivable.
The only way to stop this blatant greed is to quit buying GNR tickets and merchandise. Voting with our wallets is the only recourse we have.

Does anyone have an extra lithograph and/or shirt from the 2nd Austin gig?
I didn't buy the litho because I didn't have the means to get it home safely. -
Wow! My Austin master sounds MUCH better than expected!
Here is a sample:

Im looking forward to hearing it
It's probably shit, but we'll find out next week. I hope XAVEL captured the IEM streams last night. I'll buy an XAVEL iem ACL GNR release and liberate it, should one appear.

I should state that the 3 2016 GNR gigs I caught were fantastic. Last night's show wasn't enjoyable for several reasons.
1. Cold weather
2. Lack of reserved seat. Having to keep my guard up all night, made it hard to relax and get into the show. I'm just too old for GA shows. My sense of balance is off, so one unexpected shove in the wrong direction and it could be Donnington '88 all over again. I thank my strong friends Tim and Pete for protecting me.
3. Stale, predictable, setlist. I knew I was sick of the NITL set in August of 2017 when I was tracking the Apollo broadcast flac set and quickly fast forwarded through the show. I'm thankful most covers were dropped.
4. The attitude and swagger from the golden era wasn't there. The ACL show seemed like a typical modern day corporate rock show promoted by Live Nation.
5. Monitoring my M10 audio recorder was not fun. I can tell you the first 30 seconds of It's So Easy are likely distorted. It was also windy and I was surrounded by screamers. The top GNR live recording producer will edit my master. Let's see what he can do with it.

Wait, you’re really trying to compare this show to 1992/93 ones?
Only for nostalgic purposes. Austin is a special place for me.

Assessment: waste of time and money....
Tonight's GNR show was by far the worst of the six I have seen since 1992. The last GNR gig in Austin, which I caught back in February of 1993, totally destroyed the ACL gig. I did have nostalgic flashbacks to the 1993 show during the same tunes that were performed at both concerts. That was neat.
GNR has been my favorite band since I first heard Appetite in September/October of 1989.
The magic of the golden era is long gone. I believe Axl/Slash/Duff are cashing in on the legacy before Axl's voice is gone for good.
I don't fault anyone for loving the current incarnation of GNR, but this lineup doesn't inspire me like the golden era 1987-1993 band did. This band simply isn't "happening". It's the KISS reunion cash grab equivalent for my generation.
Maybe I would have had a better time if I didn't try to tape the show. I wasn't planning to. However, I had to get Locomotive on tape.
I'm ready to move on and delegate GNR to the memory bank of my teen years. It's a sad night for me...

Ugh! It's drizzling!!!
-
What are the odds the show is called off? I'm out with a friend at a restaurant and the weather is terrible. Cold, wet, and drizzling. The worst possible weather for an outdoor show.
-
If I arrived at the festival around 4:30pm would I have enough time to get a good spot for the GNR show? I'm not expecting to be in the front row. I would like to spend as little time at Zilker as possible. It's in the 50's and damp down here!!

There are several deals for single day tickets on StubHub. $81 including fees for each ticket. Wristbands are located at the StubHub shop at Embassy suites on South Congress.

Well it appears that my lodging plans in Austin fell through (my good friend has to take care of business out of state). Unless something changes, I won't be at the gig on Friday.
It would be hard as hell to get a hotel room at this stage, and I don't want to inconvenience any of my other Austin area friends.
I'm too old for the BS associated with attending rock shows.
UPDATE: I will be heading to Austin on Thursday night!!
I am unsure if I will capture audio of GNR this time.
It's going to be very windy and wind noise ruins all audience recordings.
Locomotive is the only thing enticing me to tape the show.
Otherwise, I think it would be fun to just relax and enjoy the GNR gig...

Yes. Not to mention that when they play it its gonna be watched a ton on youtube and pretty much no matter how great it will be, lots of comments will be "it was better in 1991"
So they arent gonna play them unless Axl is 120%
Virtually everything in GNR-land was better in 1991!

The forecast for Friday in Austin is rainy and cooler. I hope the rain doesn't affect the GNR gig at Zilker park.
-
I'm curious. Did GNR perform on the stage in front of the Austin skyline facing east or did they perform on the stage facing north? After seeing the massive crowd, I think I'll leave my audio taping gear at home and just enjoy the show.
-
@kiwigunsWas the crowd on the tame or wild side? Was it possible to relax and enjoy the show or did you have to keep your guard up at all times like at a pure rock/metal show?
I have a standard GA ticket and I'm planning for next Friday's show. I would appreciate a heads up on the mood of the crowd.
Even though it will be a different group of people, the vibe should be similar.
I am glad you had fun in Austin! I lived there for 13 years and had more good times than bad.
Thank you!

That clip is from 1991, near the beginning of the UYI Tour (St. Louis).
The band was a well-oiled machine in 1993!Go watch the Saskatoon 1993 DVD for proof...

So no COMA this time? I am having second thoughts regarding attending next Friday's Austin gig.
It appears the low 1 day ticket price ($120) is justified by the curfew that forces the band off stage by 10pm.When I last saw GNR in Austin, on February 23, 1993, the band didn't go on until 10:10PM!! How times have changed!!
Of course, the 1993 lineup of GNR could run circles around the NITL band....

Out here on the rail...and it’s so damn hot. But I’m surviving, so far.
You're BRAVE, Jen! Hang in there for 9 more hours!
BTW, which side of the park is GNR's stage on? Is it to the left of the entrance or straight ahead from the entrance?
Last time I attended ACL was in 2011, so I may be off with the locations of the stages.
-
I am putting this out there for grins. Would anyone in the Dallas/Fort Worth area being interested in buying my October 11th ACL Wristband? My instincts are telling me not to attend this show. I would like to sell the wristband at cost ($120) and could meet up locally (at a police department) to make the transaction.

Is ANYONE from the forum going to the October 11th GNR gig at Zilker park? I bought tickets for the 2nd weekend, because there is traditionally a lower turnout compared to the first weekend. The highly anticipated University Of Texas Vs. Oklahoma University "Red River Showdown" will be taking place on October 12th in Dallas. This football game is a religious event for many residents of Austin, and should help reduce the amount of people in attendance for the second weekend of ACL.
I am going to stay at my friend's condo which is a 15 minute walk from Zilker park.
Parking for the ACL fest is usually a BITCH!!
