Slash playing Don't Damn Me is far more special than this turd. What is with this band and the cartoons? The stage videos are the worst. Always a fucking cartoon. Who is in charge of this shit?
Added kicker that Bad Apples and Perfect Crime were listed as alternates on the setlist. To think we'll see those potentially someday soon. And Todd's handling those vocals. I love Todd.

On the surface, Axl sounded amazing. On a bigger scale, I think it did more good overall for his public image. The Axl of old, late, temper tantrums, etc etc was put to rest. He showed up, he was professional, and he kicked ass.
Fixing some issues he had on the Guns camp sure helped too. Big let's face it, ACDC is a monster. I think it opened a lot of eyes in his favour to people who wouldn't care as much about GNR.

I can admit now that the novelty of The General has worn off, we definitely had too high of expectations that the song simply couldn't have lived up to. To me, it's still a great song. I enjoy it a lot, but when we were all expecting something epic and lengthier, it is what it is.
My concern, and this is more about Axl and less of the song itself, is the writing style. We now have 3 of the 4 official releases where the style is verse-chrous-repeat verse-repeat chorus. Is it just lazy writing? Was it a work in progress or placeholder with the intent to come back and finish them off? Surely we will never know. I'm old school I guess. I'd much rather an actual fully put together song with different verses and at least Hardskool has that, production aside. Hopefully they officially release Monsters as well as I feel that is undoubtedly a great song that fits my criteria.
I am curious as to why Monsters got leaked. Was it available in an inner circle as well for who knows how long? Did that publishing leak that showed The General and Monsters inadvertently get someone to panic and leak it was since it appeared it could be included on the Perhaps release? Again, we'll probably never know. But I'm glad, cuz I've been playing that song on repeat ever since.

Wow. Things I wasn't expecting to see upon opening Instagram. Curious and looking forward to hearing the mix.

Better should have been the 1st single.
Better, then SOD, then something different like TWAT. Better had a good modern GNR sound imo and is easily in my top 5 favourite songs of theirs. SOD sounds close enough to classic Guns, so mainstream I could have seen it landing well. TWAT just deserved to be released on as large a scale as possible.

And this might explain why he might have been checked out for a few shows.
This. I remember seeing Motley Crue in 2010 a week or so after Nikki Sixx and Kat Von D broke up. Dude looked like he wasn't even present. Going through the motions would have been putting it lightly.

Oh man I bet that Don't Cry is great. I'm drawing a blank on the year but that initial demo that was on YouTube forever was always my favourite. I'll have to track these down this afternoon after work.

Wait is this a thing again?

Is the Vienna 2010 recording around anywhere?
Man I've never listened to the cell phone clip. One day I'll stumble across it for comparisons sake, now that we have the full real deal.

I doubt we'll see any changes in the band lineup (they seem to have a good thing going), but it does seem like everything is adding up to a hiatus (which makes complete sense). Not quite the sense of finality at the end of the Vegas 2014 run, but some similarities: the band really going all in on cool set lists, Axl seeming like he's really giving it his all and having a great time (technical issues from this show aside), and thanking the crew (I remember in 2014 he started to thank Caram and the band at various shows and at the Golden Gods Award). The last show in that 2014 run was, if I remember correctly, June 2014 and the band was back in April 2016 for the beginning of Not in this Lifetime: almost two years. I imagine we'll have a similar break here (maybe an occasional festival show since - unlike 2014 - they have a full functioning band).
I hope so. A break could be good for them. Honestly I'd be okay if they just decided to pack it in aside from the odd festival show here and there. I find myself with them, and a lot of bands nowadays, begging them not to come near me as I don't wanna pay the money that's just simply asking ticket price these days. I got to see Axl and Slash together finally in 2017. If they never came to Winnipeg again, I can be happy knowing I got to see them.
Trickle out some releases if anything. Ideally a little quicker than as of late. I don't care if it's original new or reworked new. If I haven't heard it, it's new to me.

I saw them open for Rise Against in 2011. Never heard of them prior. Their set was absolutely phenomenal.

Can anyone explain how the general is related to estranged? Sebastian said back in like 2007 that he heard the general and Axl said it wouldn’t be released until 2012, it was part of a trilogy or continuation of estranged? Maybe I’m remembering something wrong?
No he definitely said that Axl said that. I personally don't buy it, or just don't see it. But whatever, it doesn't hinder my enjoyment of the song in any way.

That performance was really good. Like, I'm shocked. Yes, the verse was a little shakey. But I'm sure he'll fine tune it as he does it more. His vocals on that outro were so much better than I could have ever expected them to be in a live setting. Slash really seemed to be into it. That's really cool to see.
The one YouTube video I watched from the pit a little further back. That intro with the dark lights and just the blue light reflecting off Slash's glasses. What a fucking badass performance.

I will forever dream of what that bridge with that Axl would have been like. Of all the parallel universes out there, we had to get this one.

We literally got our holy grail and we're still arguing semantics
I don't care who's playing on it. I finally have it. I loved it on the first listen but God damn has it grown on me after having a weekend to digest it. It just makes me wish Axl released more 20 years ago. This is a great song that sounds like a great modern Guns song. If he did more like this and actually struck while the iron was hot, God knows what could have been.
I know not all of it was necessarily his fault, but damn. I want more material in this vain.

i think 2007/08
Somewhere in 06 and 07 was my guess. I felt it was similar sounding to his vocals on Bach's album. Honestly too, we don't know what his voice was in 03 to 05. Coulda been anywhere in there too.

This shit is not for casual fan. This is like a 2020s version of The Garden and Coma
Definitely not. I'm on my second listen of Monster and I'm def hearing what I feel is 06 Axl.
2006 was my favourite era. Definitely because it's when I got into this band and first saw them. But hearing notes of that iconic concert intro sprinkled throughout a studio song? Ughhh I love it.

Just poured the last of my good tequila for the first official listen (Kirkland tequila. Can't get in Canada where I am so it's the good stuff to me).
Ive spent since what, 2007? Hearing about this song. I was 16. That's half my life. And I'm listening to it. Finally. Holy shit.
I love it. It's nothing like I expected, but wow. I understand the B-side choice. I don't see casual fans accepting this. But I'm in love. I hope it's the slash version, cuz I feel the chorus of the general could sound like recent Axl, but it's entirely possible I just want to hear things.
It was a long afternoon. I had them saved on my phone within 5 minutes of them leaking (got extremely lucky on checking), but I wasn't gunna let my first listen be through a phone speaker in the office. Glad I waited.
Fuck this band. They show promise, let me down, I swear up and down to myself I'm over it, and they rope me back in. I'm ready for another round of disappointment and frustration.

I heard a small snippet. I'm saving the real first listen till after work on a proper system. From what I skimmed, if it's fake it's the best fake you can imagine.

It's almost 6am for me. About to head to the gym before work. My workouts are always better when I'm angry so I have a feeling the next 12 minutes will set me in the right mood.

It still has to ship. It always said “ships October 27th”. So it’s probably another week before we hear the vinyl rips.
Unsure about that. My wife ordered the Britney Spears book that just got released yesterday. Always said ships October 24th and she got an Amazon notification Monday night that the order was "out for delivery." It showed up Tuesday by lunch hour. Here's hoping these vinyls operate similarly.

Most curious to hear Chris Stapleton and Dorothy. Something about Stapleton, I just love. I discovered Dorothy after local radio added Black Sheep. Went to stream the album and I really enjoy it. She's a phenomenal singer.
