  1. Axl is sounding better in North America than what he did in Europe/Middle East, to my ears anyway, I’m liking what I’m hearing. The PTU line explanation was gold too, that was like old Axl. I think there’s a possibility the (widely positive) reaction to Perhaps has given him confidence too.
  2. Caught Bad Obsession, best I’ve heard him sing it, the harmonica elevated it too.
  3. I liked Duff’s Fear and Loathing tee, any ideas where it’s from?
  4. This might sound a little weird but the piano, from the first time I heard it, reminds me a little of Scottish jig music. Overall I like the song though, I’d have probably replaced the piano though.
  5. Seemed like quite a cool show, caught a few songs and they sound quite good. Axl’s back to sounding good again on Wichita, Walk all over you sounded good too.
  6. Mickey could sound a bit weird, admittedly on YouTube clips for example, I always felt it was in tune though, which made it passable for me.
  7. I haven’t had much of a problem with the Mickey voice in this era, I think there’s been a warm tone to it in the most part. It’s worked perfectly for SCOM and even Nightrain I haven’t minded. This has been Mickey with some power, and tone (neither of which I’d say he had towards the end of New Guns). Mickey for me for the most part has been fine, and enjoyable, maybe I’ve been lucky in that respect, because now I’m not enjoying his voice so much, and am generally less enthusiastic about the band, and don’t feel compelled to travel to see them. That shouty Patience voice I feel like turning off the tv too, so to speak.
  8. Oh and I think you’re right about all of this.
  9. Thanks. That’s what I’m hearing. Unfortunately I’m experiencing a double whammy of a weaker, and less tuneful high pitched (Mickey) voice and more prominence given to this “natural” voice as you call it, neither of which I’m enjoying particularly. The thing is always felt the mega high prices were some what justified on now great they all are/were. Now we have Axl shouting (that’s what that Patience outro sounds like to me) and a nothing special “natural” deeper voice used for Bad Obsession etc, and Slash playing what ever he wants in place of November Rain solos. I don’t think, after the novelty wore off, that the setlist changes are helping. Ironically it’s taken these changes for me to lose interest. PTU, Bad Obsession, DOTF don’t sound good to me, in 2023.
  10. Good answer, thanks. That Patience voice is horrible. Whilst his PTU, Bad Obsession voice isn’t this exactly he doesn’t sound good on them IMO. I don’t think the band sound particularly good on them either, PTU outro is a bit messy, on the Ritz he sings “she’s the right one”, we’re not hearing much of that on this version, just “Pretty tied up” over and over again (in their defense the song doesn’t really have a proper outro on the album as it fades to end). All this aside I’m not hearing a particularly good tone from Axl this year, he sounds a bit off, and tuneless. I spoke to someone at Glastonbury (not a fan as such), he enjoyed Guns, but remarked negatively on his voice, which I found insightful (someone actually at the show). He’s struggled a bit on these runs I’m forced to say. Even Witchita he doesn’t sound good on which I’ve held as a high water mark these past few years.
  11. Q. (And this isn’t the right place) But how often is Axl using his ‘mid register’ voice? As in the one he seems to use in the Patience outro, which the morphs to ‘falsetto’/Mickey. He uses it for Bad Obsession, Pretty Tied, DOTF too. This to my ears does not sound good, the tone is not good, and it doesn’t sound anything like the ‘90s version, it’s half talking and half singing. For me Axl is an amazing singer, and when he’s using this shouting voice it’s a turn off, particularly when it morphs into falsetto, it’s distracting. It’s strange to me that it’s this very voice that people are praising as sounding great, and just like old Axl. It’s certainly not a voice I’d be paying the going asking price to turn up to listen to.
  12. Interesting comparison, thanks. For perspective I’ve bought a generic Euro tour shirt from a gig and the quality is poor, not what they they were like in ‘17-‘18. The gildan ones are much better, I bought a BST Hyde park shirt and it’s by Gildan and I feel as if I may actually be able to wear that one. The “heavier, coarser” ones are much better, which you seem to be saying are the ones from the gig, I’m confused. My one from the gig is flimsy and cloth like, the gildan Hyde Park one is better.
  13. Watching this back. I don’t care for PTU in this performance, I don’t like Axl’s speaking/singing voice and it just doesn’t sound good. Estranged is pretty good, Slash solos aside. Was a great Jungle too.
  14. Brilliant reviews these, it really was a triumphant show.
  15. Wasn’t in my experience. Were a handful of people around me singing every word, a large chunk had NITL tour shirts or older, and many others bobbing away to the music. Not many chats or disinterest.
  16. Hmmm what? I’m simply sharing my experience, of London.
  17. I have no complaints about the fans in Gold circle, every bit fans from what I could tell. There isn’t going to be a 60k crowd moshing, it’s a broad section, obviously. Was probably the most enthusiastic crowd I’ve seen for Guns anywhere.
  18. Susan was rocking out at the side of the stage, I think that’s an indication as to how good it was.
  19. I was there (third show this week), I have genuinely no recollection of Jungle, I don’t know, maybe the strange setlist ordering has thrown me. Anyway, it was pretty phenomenal. It felt pretty epic, London always gets good shows (obvious exceptions) the crowd was pretty good in the most part (as I often find for GN’R in London, even near the back of the rather large Golden circle, lots of people around me singing along). Axl for the first hour sounded as good as I’ve heard him in recent years, I was really surprised, I think Glasgow sounded strained, after Glasto, was back on the mark here. I thought the setlist was great, I wouldn’t have changed much, getting Coma and Don’t Cry was nice. The no encore thing was sweet, Axl said it was an insurance policy so they wouldn’t get cut off, and then afterwards said “we are Lloyds of London and we’d like to thank you for coming out tonight” and then straight into Paradise. There was almost a whole crowd singalong to November Rain which would have been pretty cool, it’s so well known now everyone knows all the words it seems. Venue was great, and big. It felt like a big crowd. BST Hyde Park seems a like a great event. The stage was enormous, with a full wrap around screens, it was quite impressive visually. And again, Absurd is a banger, it doesn’t sound out of place in a Guns set.
  20. Frank watched the Pretenders set (or most of it) from the golden circle area with his partner.
